I stay here every year while I'm working on the archaeological excavations at Arthur's Stone in Dorstone. I love the charm of the house, its beautiful garden, and especially Emma and Simon's warm hospitality. Lovely rooms full of character, and breakfast cooked on the Aga.

Looking for a comfortable, beautiful B&B full of character and with charming hosts?  Then this is the perfect place.  The house is extraordinary, full of charm with gorgeous decor and a wonderful welcoming feel.  The garden is exquisite, the views incomparable.  We only stayed 1 night, wish we could have stayed a week.  We enjoyed a leisurely picnic supper in the amazing garden, only going in as the light finally faded.  Slept wonderfully well in the very comfy beds.  It was a VERY warm night - one of the hottest of the summer, Emma very thoughtfully provided an electric fan so the room was cool.  Lots of lovely little touches:  robes, slipper, hospitality tray and toiletries in the bathroom too.  As an added bonus, even though this is a historic house hidden deep in the wonderful countryside the WiFi was speedy and free.  Breakfast was delicious, served in the kitchen, cooked on the Aga.  Can not recommend Bage Pool highly enough.  We would love to return soon if we can.

Bage Pool is a fabulous base to explore the stunning countryside around  Hay-on-Wye.  We planned a packed weekend, including canoeing on the Wye, walking in the Black Mountains and paying a visit to the Bookshop Cinema in Hay.  Emma's warm hospitality made the weekend very special.  The house is quite beautiful and our room was perfect, the beds in particular being very comfortable to weary limbs.  It is just as well we had an active itinerary as Emma's breakfasts were delicious and plentiful.  Emma offered advice and help with our planning and she could not have been more accommodating.  Stay here if you are in the area - you won't regret it.

What I mean is, not enough good words about this place.
 I thought it was easy to find, but there are signs up now and this now has a bus stop for stagecoach 39, if without a car. 
This guest house is like a magical dream. The oodles of space, amazing stairways and features. Two seating areas as well as a huge lovely lounge, with its own staircase and doors out to the garden. Both rooms are to die for and the single, well,wow, an experience in itself. The bed is very comfortable, fit for a king. You really have to experience the place to believe it. VERY CLEAN. Lots of thoughtful extras such as electric blanket, the most amazing fleece bath robe, which I didn't want to take off, slippers, water jug, hot water bottle, fresh milk in flask, various herbal teas, excellent choice of TV channels, extra heating, books, magazines...incredible value for money. The outside space is just as amazing. Views from every quirky window.
The shower is fantastic, one of the best I've used. 
Breakfast is lovely...aga cooked toast and high quality ingredients. 
Beautiful area with several walks and there is a lake and tump in the garden!!!
Peaceful nights sleep guaranteed and very obliging hosts.
Mystical, addictive and lovely.

And what a welcome?  Emma and Simon seem to have been waiting all this time to welcome you - and they most certainly do!  A twin room with such a lovely ambience and view of the gorgeous garden and for me - the Indian 4 poster which you need a footstool to mount the bed.  Not only 2 superb rooms but you get your own staircase to your own sitting room.  Breakfast to write home about from the Aga in the spacious kitchen.  The real thing!
Our family - including grand children visited and were also treated as honoured guests and got to feed the chickens.  To visit Bage Pool is a little like re-discovering a branch of your own family

Emma could not do enough to make my stay stress free and relaxing.  As a first timer to the Hay festival, she shared insider knowledge and had great tips and recommendations to make. The house is full of treasures and I slept in a wonderfully high Indian four poster bed, with a cleverly positioned footstool to help me climb up!  Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious, a perfect time to relax, chat and plan the day ahead.
There is a great combination of traditional features - creaky floorboards, deep sill windows, oak beams which are complimented by modern luxury - power shower, wi-fi and dressing gowns supplied.
If you like a rural location with fabulous views over the rolling hills within easy access of Hay on Wye and enjoy a warm welcome in a friendly, family home, then this is for you.

What can I say about this old,interesting, 'quirky' family home ..but that it's just lovely.Emma & Simon who run this B&B are more than welcoming and go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable. This house is very old &,absolutely full of family memories, much  from their time  spent in India . It's just 'homely' and comfortable .Our  twin room was cosy & well equipped with tea making facilities.T.V etc and an electric blanket on each bed for that 'extra ' comfort.Lovely on a winters night.
Breakfast is taken in the farmhouse kitchen and it's just a very relaxed atmosphere.The family dog is there but  is no problem, and well trained. 
The entrance to the house is between two  farm barns that  back onto the road and is therefore easily missed. This could be resolved if there was a large sign attached to the barn directing to the house BUT ofcourse, there may be local authority issues preventing this. However, Brown's lane..is a dirt track and although the given address for Bage Pool it is NOT right and it will take you to a 'dead end'. Don't go there ! Emma kindly provides directions to help find the house but ,not much use ,if like us you forget to take them with you.!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and also had very good evening meals at the 'Pandy Inn ' in Dorstone village. Another gem..
I would certainly recommend 'Bage Pool',the owners are kind & caring. It was a real pleasure to stay in their home.
