La Chrysalide B & B

A big house in  a quiet surrounding, the host are helpful and charming and the included breakfast could not be better. Pastries, jams and pâté are home made with mostly local ingredients. The owner are rightly proud of their cooking. WE went at the Laurentians colours peak time. I highly recommend the place.

We were fortunate to have spent 3 days for our 25th anniversary at La Chrysalide, a truly exceptional bed and breakfast. The hosts are a warm, charming and interesting couple who offered wonderful suggestions for dinner, and tours.  We enjoyed lazy starts to the day sitting in the gazebo surrounded by a beautiful garden and drinking steaming coffee followed by exceptional, innovative breakfasts. The hostess even shared her recipes for two delicious pates. Other reviews have mentioned the outstanding breakfasts, and I couldn’t agree more with them. The rooms are spic and span clean and beautifully decorated. It is located minutes from Ste. Sauveur and with easy access to Mt. Tremblant. If you are looking for privacy and comfort with stunning views, near a variety of activities, I would recommend La Chrysalide.

We have just returned from a two-night stay at this B&B tucked away next to Mont-Olympia and a stone's throw away from Mont St-Sauveur.  On entering the spacious foyer, guests remove boots on the large entryway carpet where a basket of house slippers (adult size) are thoughtfully provided.  We were immediately struck by the graciousness of the house, beautifully painted and hung with serene paintings and old-style photos.  The charming owners of this impeccable establishment, Ginette and Lauréan, greeted us with great friendliness, and spoke both French and English.  Pride and joy of ownership shine through the meticulous attention to detail in the magnificently decorated guest quarters and common areas, and in the carefully hand-prepared breakfasts.  The five rooms, three with private baths, and two which share a bathroom, are all located on the second floor, which is given over entirely to guests.  The owners are installed on the lowest floor of the house, which, owing to the slope of the land, has its own entrance on the other side of the house from the main approach.  The living room on the main floor is open to guests and offers a television as well as beautiful sofas and decor.  We were permitted to keep our ski boots in the entryway.  The floors and rooms are extremely clean.

Our room, La Gloire du Matin, is the largest of the guest rooms, although all rooms are good-sized with large windows and lovely and unique appointments.  We had a view of St-Sauveur from large corner windows, a breathtaking canopy bed, and a palatial bathroom featuring a double sink, oval bathtub with jets, and separate shower stall.   Curtains, wall paper, canopy hangings, mouldings, and wall ornamentations are all the handiwork of the owners, and show a great eye for colour, beauty, and balance.  The bed beneath the canopy was very comfortable, although the pull-out sofa bed was a bit lumpy, but adequate.  Both beds were size double.  The room features a small fridge which is a good idea, but was rather noisy.  The room and bathroom have their own thermostats which we discovered after a first chilly night; upon adjusting them we were very comfortable thereafter.  For summer months, there appears to be only air conditioning in the corridor, although a large standing fan is provided in the room.  The bathroom has such nice touches as candles next to the bathtub and bathrobes.  Shampoo and soap are provided.  Towels are huge and fluffy.  Small complaints are a cold floor (extra mats would have been nice), a slippery shower floor on first use (thereafter less slippery; would be nice to have some support handles or anti-slip mat), and a toilet roll holder that dispensed with difficulty.  Water comes from a well and is refreshing to drink.  Water pressure is good in the shower; the sink taps require multiple rotations to get flowing, and the toilet requires sustained pushing on the button to flush, although the flush is fine once it gets going.

Breakfast is a magnificently sumptious affair, with all food hand-prepared from scratch, including the bread and jams.  The first day we were treated to homemade mini-muffins and lemon loaf cake, homemade cinnamon-raison brioches, cheese bread, sausage (homemade), and crepes stuffed with ricotta and topped with orange coulis.  A feast.  Juice, milk, coffee, and tea were also served.  The second morning, we were presented with different muffins and loaf cake, fresh croissants, a main course of french toast with pears and maple syrup, and a pannacotta.  Jams are interesting and delicious, including pear, ground cherry, and apricot with hazelnuts.  Food was of course served with warm attentiveness.  One caveat for early starters is that breakfast is served from 9-10am.  Our hosts were kind enough to provide breakfast for us earlier, but it is an imposition as they must be up early to prepare the meal.  All in all highly recommended.

Note that GPS directions will indicate the house location as 500m from its actual location.  Just follow the signs posted along the road and the house is easy to find.

We enjoyed the Chrysalide B&B over Thanksgiving weekend - the house is immaculately clean, with large, beautifully decorated en-suite bedrooms, and the breakfast is delicious.  The hosts are very nice and welcoming to their region; they gave us great tips on what to see and where to eat.  We had a lovely long weekend at the Chrysalide and hope to return soon.

Just got back from a stay at La Chrysalide, it was truly excellent in all respects. Our room, La Gloire de Matin, is large with en-suite bathroom containing a shower and Jacuzzi, the room has a sitting area, canopied bed, and a great view across the valley to the ski slopes.

As the previous reviewer stated, it defines tranquility.

We also spent the day at the Polar Bear Club and SPA, but you can't help but notice that three or four ski resorts are minutes away as well. As is the town of Saint Sauveur with all its bars, restaurants, shops etc etc.

Price/quality this can't be beaten. We have stayed at numerous high end B&B's throughout the eastern seaboard and this stacks up in every respect with those costing more than twice the nightly fare.

Breakfast is superb, where else are you served a soufflé?

The hosts, Ginette and Lauréan, are wonderful people who provide for you in a friendly professional style.
