We stayed 4 nights. The bus dropped us off after midnight and the hotel was locked up tight. We rang the bell a couple dozen times without success, then called the hotel's phone number. We could hear the phone ringing inside the hotel, but then it diverted to some other location where it woke up some unfortunate girl from a very deep sleep. Her answering moan down the phone line was one of the saddest sounds I have ever heard. Her only advice was to keep ringing the bell. Eventually we attracted the attention of the owner's son. He got the owner, and the owner woke up the girl whose job it was to let us in. That poor girl was also a very deep sleeper, and she sleepwalked us to our room. It was a bit eerie, like a horror movie. Unfortunately, the room was missing half the amenities (e.g. drinking glasses) and my wife was worried we would be charged for them when we checked out, but she sorted that out in the morning. There were a few other problems with this hotel, including:
- Each day they took our key, with the room number emblazoned on it in 2-inch lettering, and then left it sitting in plain view on an unattended desk next to the open front door of the hotel. On the plus side, this made it extremely convenient for us to grab the key on our return to the hotel
- One night the hotel had massively loud karaoke until after 11.00pm, and they invited the worst singers in Da Lat to participate in it. Okay, I'm being mean. Some were ok. But some, I'm telling you, those people should not be let near a microphone
- The hotel tried to move us to a different room in the middle of our stay. Luckily they changed their mind when we threatened to move to another hotel
- The hotel did not change the sheets or towels, or clean the room during our stay. They tried to do that one morning at 6.45 am by bashing loudly on our door. Unfortunately, it was not a convenient time for us
- The cleaners did their work from 6.00 - 7.00 am and they yelled loudly at each other while they did it. No kidding, they were really screaming out their frustrations. Really good for their blood pressure though, to let out all that tension
- The hotel staff just walked into our room once without knocking. So embarrassing for my naked wife, however the risk is easily mitigated by staying fully dressed at all times (or locking the door, ha ha, we learned that lesson!)
- The water pressure in the bathroom was quite low, took 45 seconds to fill a water glass from the tap
- The floor of the room was quite dirty
Overall, I have to say we are unlikely to return to this hotel when we return to Da Lat. However, I encourage you to give it a go if you don't think the issues we experienced will bother you.
