During January-February 2016, I stayed 14 days at A25 Hotel on Chau Long Street. I had rented an apartment on Chau Long Street, 2013-14 and just loved the working-class neighborhood. The A25 is a small, inexpensive hotel with a big heart. Cleanliness is watchword, staff very friendly. Taxi service, either car or motorbike is conveniently located nearby as are coffee shops and quality restaurants, most especially is the chicken noodle restaurant (pho ga) located across the narrow street. Truc Bach Lake is located two blocks away and just beyond that is West Lake. On the outskirts of Old Quarter, a taxi ride to Hoan Kiem Lake in heart of Old Quarter is a paltry 28,000 dong. Small disadvantage was staff has limited English abilities but that was no big problem. Strongly recommend this A25 Hotel for high value and convenience. Be alert that A25 is a chain of Hanoi hotels so always stipulate A25 at Chau Long Street.
