Firwood Country Bed and Breakfast

We first visited this excellent b&b two years ago and vowed to return when next in the area. We have just returned from an excellent four nights stay. Firwood is situated in a raised rural location, a mile or so outside Wooler. It is on a country lane on the way to a lovely Cheviot valley. Firwood is a lovely period house with lots of features and beautiful gardens. The owners, Mike & Beth had provided us with detailed directions of how to find Firwood. Avoiding the hazardous ford. They warmly welcomed us and provided tea and cake in the lovely visitor's lounge. The lounge was very comfortable and there were lots of local maps and guides to study. Firwood has three spacious guest bedrooms. We have now been in two of them. They are spacious, well equipped and extremely comfortable. They are very clean and well maintained. Free WiFi is available of a reasonable standard. Breakfast is excellent. Hot & cold with fruit options. Mike & Beth are excellent hosts. They are very friendly and are always willing to share their local knowledge about the area and places to visit. We also had interesting discussions about the history of their house and the wildlife in their garden. They made recommendations about dining options. We tried the Milan restaurant and No 1 Hotel & Tapas Restaurant in Wooler and can highly recommend them. Further afield we tried for Sunday Lunch the Border Hotel at Kirk Yetholm near Kelso.
