What a fabulous place and just a couple of miles out of Windermere. The Inn has a great atmosphere and the speciality ales are just what you need after along day of hiking. The rooms are great, superclean and very comfortable. To top it all, the cooked breakfasts in the morning were both hearty and delicious. Thr staff were also super helpful too. This was the first time we have stayed here but will definitely come again. Would highly recommend, especially perfect for dog owners.

One of our go to places when up in Kendal for business. Clean & friendly and a good choice of things on the menu. Food is delicious! Only downfall we had was we booked a certain table for dinner one evening and one member of staff had moved us and was quite rude about it! Original table was empty the whole time we were in the restaurant! Wouldn’t have minded if she had been polite and explained why the move had been made!

Look this place is everything you need in a lake district inn. Warm fires, excellent food and some genuinely outstanding beer. The staff were amazing with us and I cannot compliment the bar staff or chefs enough.Would go back tomorrow would give it 6/5 it it were possible to rate it that highly

A good reduced price made this an absolutely exceptional overnight stay and their own beer is excellent.

Very nice location in the Lake District. Great Staff and they make there own beer.....What more could you ask for.

We had an excellent comfortable stay. Met up with family. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and professional.Would definitely recommend if passing through ‘Ings’ which is a lovely place to stay.Hope to go again soon.

Great property, very picturesque setting, and a really fun atmosphere!

Spent 2 nights at the watermill with my partner. We had room 4 just at the top of the stairs. Small but very clean and comfortable. Food was amazing. Breakfast was really good lots of choice. Great staff fab place

Fabulous place, perfect for dog owners

Lovely friendly place to stay

Good evening meal, good breakfast just needed to cook the bacon & especially the sausages more (we specially asked for well done bacon & sausages) & keep the baked beans hot not lukewarm which spoiled the meal. Room very small & compact & beware of the very large wooden beam which is very low in the middle of the room. Would definitely eat a lunch/dinner meal again when passing.

I’d firstly like to say the staff were fantastic and the food was great, breakfast options are a big plus. The issue was the room. Rooms 5 and 6 are loft rooms, so even though the square footage seems reasonable, the amount of space you can uses is limited. My husband 5ft 8” kept hitting his head on the beam and hitting his leg on the bed. The shower is extremely small unless you’re a size 6. The room was dated and not in a great state of repair. Being in the loft it was far too hot, especially if you’re travelling with a dog. Overlooking the car park and the main road, it was quite noisy with the windows open. There was no fridge to keep dog food cool. If we could’ve found another room somewhere else when we arrived, we would have taken it. Bowness and Ambleside were beautiful and fortunately overrode any disappointment with the room. Sorry, really wanted to love it.

Disappointing Room

Great homely pub where you are welcomed in and have a good resturant on site with delicious range of local ales and a warm fire. Breakfast excellent. Bus from a stop 2 mins walk away runs all day and into the late evening taking you pretty much anywhere in the lakes with great scenery to see on route.

Hotel is by the access road into Windermere.  Arrived on Fri night b4 Christmas (black eye Fri), the pub & restaurant was packed, but nevertheless given a nice room 1.  Very well kept & homey country side atmosphere.    Had fish & chip w beef pie.  Both items are excellent!  Courteous service staff despite full house in restaurants.  Breakfast cook to order 8:30 to 9:30 w allocated table nicely prepared.  Very satisfied w full course british BF.  Chatted w the gentleman inn keeper, who apologize for not able to greet us during check in due to packed pub night.  Only gripe is double bed mattress is way too soft, single bed is good.Value for $ on service & lake district country side experience.  If u looking for authentic british country side inn & pub (ie not the touristy type), this is it.  Will stay again, but will ask for firmer bed.
