What an amazing place
..we were in the shepherds hut ...never done one before, but loved every part of it...Great host in Jo, great facilities and fab location 
The most comfy bed ever, high quality furnishing and everything we needed...even deer in the field at night..

My fiancee and I stayed here as the Coronavirus outbreak occured. It was a crazy time but the house was so peaceful and cosy, and Steve and Jo were so warm and friendly to us. Its an idyllic setting in an idyllic part of the world. I hope business is not affected by the virus and we will certainly be back when its all blown over.

Had a two night stay with Steve and Jo at the weekend and they were so accommodating. I emailed beforehand to let them know I was Vegan.  Had a beautiful breakfast of home made brown toast with Avocado and Roast Cherry tomatoes, also mushrooms the next morning too.  There were four of us at breakfast (2 people who were staying there too) all with different choices and all cooked to perfection. Your stay is a very important part to them and the room was beautiful and clean with a fantastic shower.  Nothing was too much trouble and Jo was very helpful in giving directions and also recommending places to eat.  We loved Dougie too!! We would love to come back and stay again and we’re so lucky to share our breakfast with another lovely couple.  All made for a perfect stay.

We have just returned from three restorative  nights at Gilpin Mill in perfect weather. It is is an idyllic place with a warm welcome from Jo and Steve (and Doug the Labrador). This is a B&B but it has the quality and features of a top class hotel without the formality or restrictions you often find. In any case no hotel could match either the lovely ambience of the house or the quality of the breakfasts! The remoteness and peace mean you approach along typically narrow Lakeland lanes but the location and the sheer standard of the accommodation make the journey well worth it. We certainly plan to go again!

The best ever short stay. The accommodation and hosts cannot be faulted. Large, well appointed room, lovely bathroom and shower. Tea and scones on arrival and excellent breakfast. Kind attentive hosts, well worth the ratings on trip advisor.

My wife booked me a sheepdog experience ( see separate review) for my Birthday and we required so where local to stay,  we usually use Sawdays great places to stay as a guide and Gilpin mill suited our needs. We arrived at around 4 pm and was greeted by Steve who helped us with our luggage and showed us to our room. The rooms and property are absolutely spotlessly clean , rooms of a good size with every amenitie needed. Steve then offered us Tea and scones while giving us good local info. Both Jo and Steve were most understanding when following a meal in a local restaurant my wife was ill throughout the night , they guided me to local services to help her recovery. It was a very short trip but I’m sure that if we are in the area in the future we shall return to enjoy Jo’s fab breakfasts.

Dad and I vacation in Lake Windermere

Fantastic in every way.

When we arrived it was such a gorgeous tranquil setting. Greeted by a lovely dog and some home made scones 😊😋. Lovely comfortable room with a fantastic shower. Nice walks around the grounds and close by too. For all this I would very much recommend this place. 
We were however made to feel uncomfortable on a few separate occasions. We arrived at 4pm and was told oh it’s not ready yet in a very flustered way as she rushed upstairs with the hoover. No problem we can relax and enjoy. We were then told breakfast was 8.30-9.30am the next day, 9.50am we got a knock on the door - are you coming down or not? Then at 11am asked when are we leaving as she needs to get in the room and hoover. Felt like we were being rushed out of the room we’re paying for. The next morning when it was time to check out she was knocking on the door at 11.05 asking when we are leaving. We were literally walking out at that point anyway. Felt like we were rushed around, definitely didn’t feel welcome
