Had a fabulous afternoon with friends celebrating an early New Year’s Eve, pub was bouncing with customers and great atmosphere. Terrible weather had probably increased footfall but staff took it all in their stride and accommodated everyone. Slight delay with table we had booked but no issue at all, food was great, staff friendly and helpful. Even went back for lunch today. Thank you 🤩

This is a place we come to every so often and always have a great time there. It is a down-to-earth Pub with no pretensions but it has an awful lot going for it.

Located in a small village of Ings we tend to drive 10 minutes or so to Grasmere and do a lovely walk from the centre to the round Rydal Water. This is quite tiring so there's something very special about going back to this cosy pub and having a pint of the Windermere beer brewed on the premises.

We stayed overnight in our room was small but very comfortable. The bathroom door could do with oiling as it does squeak a bit but other than that Just enjoy the comfortable bed and lovely bedding. 

Breakfast is included and it is fantastic. Locally sourced food and I challenge you to eat it all!We got the bacon and sausage to Takeaway as it was just too good to leave and some of the best we've ever had.

The staff are helpful and friendly and good fun as well. If you want a no stress short break this could be your place and it is highly recommended.

We first stayed overnight here in April 2024 and loved it that much we stayed again for a night this month while spending a few days on the Lake District. Nice room with a lovely balcony and comfortable bed. The staff are so helpful and friendly and the food was excellent especially the fish finger sandwich, battered onion rings, the steak and ale pie and the pork ( with a fabulous sauce and mash) and a lovely side dish. As an ale drinker there beers (all named after dogs) were excellent, especially the Shih Tzu. Very good breakfast as well. Well worth the money and well worth a third visit. Another bonus is plenty of of car parking

A lovely stay here. We were welcomed by helpful friendly staff. The room was clean and with a very comfortable bed. The beer was excellent and I tried all five they had on tap brewed on the premises. The food was also excellent. We had a snack at lunchtime and shared a fish finer sandwich and a portion of beer battered onion rings. The fish was haddock goujons in a crispy beer batter. Our evening meal was also excellent. I had steak and take pie, mushy peas and chips. My only complaint is I would have loved a lot more pastry as it was great. My wife had pork chop in a honey, mustard and cream sauce with mash, pan fried cabbage and a side salad and that was excellent. 
There is ample parking as well. 
We will definitely return.

Had a great walk to Ings from Bowness the day after Hugh Jackman had visited. Service and food was amazing and got to say we live the beer garden. Such a great suntrap. Watermill chicken for me and bacon chop special for my husband.  We both loved the meal.

Beautiful looking place, nice big car park at the back.
Dog friendly which was great for us. We ordered food, a lovely guy came out to let us know how long it would be and to check we had everything we needed. He even bought our dog a fresh bowl of water. Food was fabulous, staff were wonderful. A really lovely experience and will definitely go there again. Bought some of their own brewed beer too. Nice to be able to drink such good beer at home. Highly recommended

Staying in a cottage in Ings, this soon became our 'local' for the week.

Lovely friendly place with welcoming and helpful staff throughout.
Lots of seating options,  inside , covered outside or just outside in their beer garden.

Their local ales were on tap, and there was a lot to choose from, which was brilliant as my partner tasted quite a few.
Their aperol spritz was amazing, very refreshing on a hot sunny day.

Food and drink both very reasonable, hence we visited a few times 🍻🥂

We even bought some of their ales to bring home, 12 bottles for £30, which we thought was a great deal.

Will definitely return on our next visit to the area.

We ate at The Watermill Inn as we were staying at the B&B over the road. We had three evening meals as it was so handy just to walk there. All staff were friendly and efficient and there was a lovely atmosphere. The food was really good  and reasonably priced. My husband enjoyed the ales. We would definirely visit again when in the area.

Great pub with lovely atmosphere and staff. Visited for dinner. Starter fantastic- black pudding with mash, bacon and egg on top. : Steak pie-best I’ve ever had. Goats cheese tartlet and  Burger fantastic. Visit and give your taste buds a treat.
I’ve begun before  my wife and family… we’ll be back

This is a very good pub, and Brian would undoubtedly have been proud of the progress made by Alison and the lads. 

However, the practice of reserving tables currently in place tends to create a sense of exclusion for us and presumably others, as we're often informed about certain tables being unavailable due to reservations. 

On a recent occasion, despite having booked and paid a deposit for a table, we were reassigned to a different spot upon arrival and later noticed that our original table for four remained vacant even after our stay of an hour and a half.

It's clear that booking is essential for accommodating larger groups, but the traditional ease of just dropping in for the best pie and pint in the area appears to be under threat. 

In my view, this reservation policy diminishes the allure of what is, one of the finest pubs in the area.

Favourite son and partner over from Australia (only son) ten of us spent two nights, three days in the Lake District at the Watermill was ideal for the ten of us including two children plus five dogs! Well placed for Windermere and beyond , the food was great rooms were great and staff were friendly, would definitely stay again in a large group!!!
