If you're on the NC500 road trip this is a very convenient spot to overnight before tackling John o'Groats and the north coast road. The A9 is a fairly smooth run until you find the track down to Thrumster House. Prepare to be shaken and rattled until the large white house emerges in a clearing of the woods. Is this a TV drama? A film set for a scary movie? No! it's the prelude to a warm welcome from Cath and the dogs, Bert and Dhu and a country house experience you will not forget. It's a rambling house with dedicated rooms for this and that, yes it's old and quirky but full of character and intrigue. Breakfast is fabulous. You'll leave with a smile on your face and get to J.o'G before the crowds arrive.
