We stayed overnight, the staff were really friendly and gave us a free upgrade to a HUGE room. The bed was massive and very comfy, the breakfast was delicious, and there were plenty of nice little touches to make our stay comfortable.

Decorated with a lovely bath a plenty of hot water.
Breakfast plentiful and very nice too

The service here was amazing and they had just finished their new menu! We had starters and mains every dish was amazing (especially the Asian slaw) absolutely delicious and really reasonably priced also! Would definitely recommend!!!

We stayed at the red lion the night before my best friends wedding in Swanage. We were travelling with our 2 year old son and 3 day old daughter. The staff were so lovely and accommodating they made travelling and staying away from home with a newborn as stress free as they could.
They enabled us to have a late check out so we had time to get ready for the wedding.
We had dinner in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious. The kids portion was huge and the food was excellent quality. The waitress was so nice and was also really great with my son who then thought she was wonderful.
The room itself was great for us as we could put my son in the room that was sectioned off, there was no door which was good for us as we could hear if any problems. Unfortunately being in the middle of the high street on a Friday night we were having to deal with a lot of street noise and some noisy teenagers who decided to set up camp underneath our bedroom window and play loud music whilst drinking and generally being annoying. Having given birth 3 days before and being so sleep deprived I was finding this very stressful to deal with. The staff were great and went out and spoke to them asking them to keep it down, of course the teenagers took no notice but we were pleased the staff tried. Then the staff contacted the police to get them moved on. Before the police arrived the teenagers decided to move on. This was about 11.30pm.the breakfast was lovely and again the staff were so lovely and interacted with my son making him feel very important. 
There was no mirror in the room near a plug socket for me to do my hair for the wedding. I mentioned this to the lady at breakfast, I presume she was the owner asking if there was access to an extension lead she offered to have a dressing table put in the room. I didn’t want to make loads of work but she insisted it would be ok. When I went back up to the room there was a beautiful large dressing table placed in the room and I was able to use this to get ready. The staff were amazing and we really enjoyed our stay. The bed for us was a bit too soft but I didn’t mention it because everything else the staff did made up for this x100. Thank you so much for making our stay a pleasant one. We will be back here if we are in the area and would recommend you to everyone.

Staff were friendly,  welcoming and helpful.
The room was clean, spacious and comfortable.
Ate an evening meal in the bar...food was well cooked and good value. Breakfast was plentiful and there was a good choice. 
We plan to visit the area again and would definitely return to the Red Lion.

Went for a family party.  We all stayed at this hotel.  Be aware that the beds are only small doubles (4ft) and very high off the floor.  It does make the room feel larger but being used to a standard double bed many people struggled with the bed.  It was also very hot in the rooms.

We went down on the first evening for a meal but hubby had already eaten so we just ordered a main meal for me.  It was a Friday so I went for the the fish and chip special.  It was nice but as this was the Friday night special it was at a reduced price.  When it came to pay you cannot have two offers at once so we were charged full price for the fish and chips and then 20% off so not such a great saving after all.  Must say that if we had both eaten and had puddings etc may have worked out better, but just one to watch when ordering food.

Breakfast on the first morning was ok but our eggs were a little hard.  Breakfast on the 2nd morning was excellent.  Really well presented and everything cooked to perfection. 

Must admit having worked out the 20% thing went down the road to another well know eating change and eat there as it was cheaper.

The hotel is just off the centre of town so a 3 minute walk and you are there. A 10 minute walk away is the harbour and a 10 minute drive away is the coast. Its a bit of fun driving around due to the one way system. 

Overall it was a good stay and if we were visiting would stay there again but the small very high beds may have to be a consideration for some.

The Red Lion is a large, smart pub in the middle of town. We dropped in for a quick drink and some chips, although my eldest son had the burger and said it was fantastic (and he's an expert!). Service was very friendly and efficient and the interior is roomy.

My husband and brother-in-law occasionally go for a quiet drink here and maybe a burger from the menu and decided to bring "the wives" along. While we were there, we were made to feel welcome and the food was good, but we paid in cash and they ended up taking a £25 tip for a £112 bill. When I queried the next day if their till was up, they said they would look into it and get in touch. They never did even after I followed it up the next week out of principal. I also gave half of my "winnings" from a bet that the manager helped me win, to her when I need not have done. Expensive night. Won't go back as in my opinion, customer service doesn't not end when the customer steps out of the door.

The Red Lion has a great position in Wareham, but is very overpriced and therefore empty! We recently wanted to stay, but thought £116 was overpriced for  this area. and stayed elsewhere. We called in for a drink and the whole place was empty.   Red Lion, reduce your prices and you would be full!!! Do some  Travelzoo deals, get punters in!!

missed opportunities

This place was booked for a business trip. The bathroom smelt slightly damp and decor was dated. Felt clean enough. TV in room with freeview. Staff friendly. My room was #5 which had a separate access down a dimly lit passage accessed off of the high street, felt dodgy in the dark. The room was shielded from street so quiet from road noise but noisy from the footsteps on the room above the ground floor. The room looked out onto a weird / not very nice courtyard. The place had no punters in the evening and kitchen was closed for food as being serviced.
