Stayed here as we were in Walsall for a friends birthday. Stayed in a double bedroom. Room was clean and spacious. Bathroom was of decent size and clean.Good customer service, pleasant atmosphere,and great location .Surely will come again.

Decent  and affordable place to stay 

This definitely isn't anything special but costing us £45 for two including breakfast I cant really complain. It is ideal if you just need somewhere to get your head down for the night,  not a romantic getaway. Breakfast wasn't 4* I only ate my toast but my other half ate his full breakfast and have of mine. Like I say if you just want somewhere cheap and don't plan on spending your time in the hotel then its ok.

Iv stayed at the royal many times over the last ten years its in a good and quiet  location with free parking and a good breakfast,  the staff can't  do enough for you the rooms are clean and tidy free tea and coffee  in all rooms with lift to all floors.

I do wonder if we went to a different hotel than the other reviewers. On arrival the parking area around the back was free which was great though did look more like a waste ground. 
We booked in and were given the room key and TV remote to take upstairs. There was a small elevator that I wasn't sure would make it to the third floor but had some local art etched on the inside. I'm not sure who 'Bert' is but the etchings for 'Big dick' and 'crap hole' were especially interesting. 
We got into the room and found threadbare carpets and a double bed. The room wasn't so much 70's style as it just being when it was last done.  On the wall was a radio from the 70s that didn't work and a hairdryer with no hose so would have been more use as a hand dryer. The room and bathroom appeared clean enough but there was mould on the tiles in the shower. 
The complimentary UHT milk cartons were out of date but they were there to be drunk if needed. The bed was sat on for a moment till I realised it was very soft and we could feel all the springs through the mattress, sheets and blankets. 
The towels and bar of soap provided looked clean. 
We spent around 5-10 minutes in the room before deciding to leave and went back to reception to explain we would find somewhere else and ask for a refund. We were accused of having taken 30 minutes just to decide we didn't like the place (the time on the card machine was out by 25 minutes) so I'm not sure what the man in reception was trying to suggest. We were given a refund and went on our way to another hotel. 
I would suggest unless you like paying to stay in somewhere resembling a hostel for homeless people or are desperate then steer clear.

Worst hotel ever? Was like fawlty towers.

Not the best hotel very tired looking but generally the bedroom was clean breakfast ok milk in room out of date as was cereal in dining room this hotel is used as accommodation for the council that's plain to see but for a cheap place to stay it's acceptable could possibly use again
