We went as a group of friends and stayed in the bunk house at Gibbs Hill, the facilities were excellent, comfortable and clean and the family who run the farm and accommodation were very friendly and helpful. 

There is loads of space to socialise in the accommodation, with a huge dining table in the kitchen area, 2 full size fridge freezers (for beer and BBQ supplies!) and plenty of comfy couches in the lounge area to relax in. 

We were blessed with sunny weather and sat out on the large veranda all afternoon surrounded by stunning countryside all within walking distance of one of the most iconic and stunning stretches of Hadrians Wall. 

Would recommend the bunk house for large groups but from what I could see the cottages looked great too so would have no hesitation booking into one of those with the family in the future.

We rented the whole bunkhouse for a couple of days over New Year and it was great! The kitchen was fully equipped and perfect for bigger groups and the bunk beds surprisingly comfy! The location of the bunkhouse was lovely and peaceful and exactly what we were after! We walked to Sycamore Gap and Twice Brewed and it was only a short car ride back. Val and the others at the farm house were really friendly and helpful but also left us to enjoy our time there without any fuss. I’d definitely recommend this place (especially for groups who might be interested in renting it out fully or for a celebration).

Gibbs Hill farm was the perfect place to spend a new year's eve with a group of friends. There were 13 of us in total, wanting to discover Northumberland and have a celebration - this bunkhouse couldn't have been more perfect for our needs. 

It was clean, well-equipped (with plenty of cooking materials), spacious, and comfortable. The location was great, a stone's throw away from the iconic sycamore gap, twice brewed pub, and the Sill. 

In addition, Val was lovely! She made sure we had everything we need and was there to help whenever we needed. Other than that she left us to our own devices to make ourselves at home.

Would 100% recommend this bunkhouse if you're wanting to get away to the countryside with friends. We're already planning our next trip!

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the bunkhouse. The area is beautiful and it's a lovely walk to Hadrians Wall. Val was so nice and attentive. Would highly recommend this place for any walkers or people who love the outdoors.

This is a good location if you are planning on exploring the local area, especially the Wall.

It is a working sheep farm set along a mile long private track so is very peaceful and secluded.  

We stayed in a one bed cottage and it was ideal for our needs.  The bed was comfy and we had all the facilities we needed to be self sufficient.  

The owners are on-site and are very friendly and helpful if you need them.

This will probably suit those who are more self sufficient and are there for the outdoor activities.

I recommend it as a good base for walking Hadrian’s Wall ( or running it as we did! )

The location has great access to Hadrian's Wall. Being a working sheep farm, there were plenty of flies. The bathroom was quite roomy and breakfast was more than adequate. Wi-Fi was difficult to pick up in our room.

We stayed at Felbridge cottage and we weren't impressed at all. I have checked all listings for this cottage and all are inaccurate, they all need an urgent update. Whilst  the location was lovely the cottage was not. We booked this cottage as it states that it has Wifi, it does not. Unless you are under the eves in the bedroom, not convienient or comfortable, this needs to be changed on the websites, we needed to be contactable for my elderly mother and this was not possible. there is no dishwasher and the washing machine is shared with the bunk house next door, not the other cottage and there are restrictions of use and it costs extra to use, not good when we paid a very high price for the cottage. The kitchen wasn't good and needs updating. It wasn't clean, not normal clean never mind Covid clean, crumbs in the breadbin and dirt on the plug switches. We came from an area under tighter restrictions so I took cleaning materials and redid all areas. Cupboards need sorting out as there was an odd assortment of stuff but no oven tray or small bowls.The bathroom was also not good. The sloping roof upstairs isn't practical but cottages often have them, in the bathroom this was difficult as, after others have complained, the shower head attached to the tap had been put on a beam, this just made showering awkward and difficult. I am 5'5'' and I was stood with my head against the shower, the sloping bath made it impossible to stand straight. the shower curtain was too long but didn't cover the bath so the floor got wet. The toilet and bathe were stained, the radiator rusty, the clotheshorses provided were well passed using, rusty and fallong to peices. 
The bed is not, when zipped together, a super king size as stated, just a normal double. It is also hard as a rock. The bed linen really needs updating as does the bedding, the pillows should have been thrown away long ago. Altogether the cottage is old fashioned and needs an update. It could be lovely but isn't at the moment. Lots needs to be done, change the mat as you go in as it smells and sew the curtain lining back on. Small improvements would help a lot, a good deep clean too.

Really needs an update in every way

The owner is very friendly and the location and view are lovely. Shame about the way the landscape has been shaped by the sheep. The amenities are not as described. No shower, washing machine or adequate bedding. Didn't sleep until we managed to find a duvet in the top of the wardrobe. All we had the first night was a sheet and a bedspread. Bathrooms and kitchen in need of updating. Sockets next to gas hob, so wires trailing along the back of the hob! Have stayed in many cottages throughout the country and there are always some tea bags etc (in some cases cake or wine). But there was absolutely nothing here. So had to go without on the first night as there was nowhere nearby and were too tired to get in the car again. It's a very long walk from the cottage to the road/wall/pub and cars coming out of the farm never stop to offer a lift. Not really a holiday when you have to sort out your rubbish and strip the beds prior to departure!

The bunk room is dark and dingy. The breakfast minimal. The care and attention negligable in the bunkroom is small. A fair way from the wall (couple of miles) - but  on a budget would suffice. I suspect the other parts of the business are better.

Cheap but not very cheerful.

Gibbs Hill is about 2.5 miles walk north of Hadrian's Wall, where Val has converted an old farm building to a bunkhouse.
Val advised me to eat first at Twice Brewed before walking back up to Steel Rigg and then down to the farm.  After a long day, I couldn't face that walk, so phoned to ask for a lift, and was fortunate to get picked up along with 2 ladies in the B&B.
Val is a farmer's wife and hopes to pass on the B&B/bunkhouse business to her daughter in law.  I was told to use the upstairs room in the bunkhouse, as a large party were booked in for the next day and Val didn't want to clean again.
The bunkhouse was quiet, with only 2 other guests who I got on very well with.  
Bed room comprised 6 creaky steel frame bunks with thin mattresses, duvets & pillow, thin curtains. 
Lounge, self catering kitchen, upstairs bathroom area 1 toilet, 1 shower cubicle, 2 sinks (didn't dare look downstairs and mess up Val's preparations!).
I opted for the breakfast in the house dining room - plentiful and welcome.  There's wifi in the house dining room only.
Packed lunch service is available if you ask in advance.
Payment by cash or card.
A lift back to Steel Rigg (on the Wall) was offered at 9:30am, however, I got an earlier lift with other guests.
Lots of farm cats wandering around the farmyard!
The inn at Twice Brewed said if the sky was clear, it would be great location for star-gazing, however, I wasn't able to test this out, as it was overcast.
Other guests commented that signage from the Wall wasn't brilliant.
