Fantastic
224 reviewsWe visited Hunter Crook lodge as a group of 8 (4 couples) for a couples/friends weekend break. We stayed for 3 nights from Friday - Monday and had a wonderful time. The reviews on this page are dated from 2016 and refer to a bed & breakfast so I am not sure how up to date this page is. I am not sure if the lodge still offers bed and breakfast but we booked it as a self catering facility. The lodge was absolutely beautiful, it was pristine, well equipped, wonderfully presented, spacious and comfortable. There was everything you needed plus extra's that you wouldn't expect to get such as shower gel and shampoo (properly sized and branded products, not mini ones) a freshly baked cake from the owner, prosecco, coffee, milk etc. The rooms were lovely, spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. The surroundings were breathtaking and so peaceful. We loved the nature and the animals, there was live stock roaming freely and sheep in near by fields. The hot tub looking over the valley was our favorite part of the whole holiday. This was the main reason we booked the lodge, as we wanted a "Hot tub Break" The owner Julia was such a lovely woman, so welcoming and so friendly. We arrived around 50 minutes early due to travelling quite far and she let us in early and came back to finish the cake whilst we were out at the supermarket. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and rained most of the entire time we were there but that is no fault of the lodge and we were still able to enjoy ourselves in the hot tub due to the shelter. The rain did mean we couldn't have a BBQ this time which was a shame but again that is something that could not be helped and there were fantastic cooking facilities inside the lodge and plenty of activities to do also such as a large TV and plenty of games. The lodge was very well sound proofed I believe as we had some neighbors next door staying in the Duck House and they said they could not hear a thing from our lodge during their stay. There was only one small disappointment with our stay and that was the curfew on the hot tub. When we booked the lodge, we weren't aware that there would be a time restriction of 10pm on the hot tub as sitting in the hot tub over looking the beautiful valley at night was one of the things we were looking forward to the most. As it is summer, it wasn't getting dark until past 10pm so we felt we could not get the most out of the experience, the hot tub had lovely fairy lights that we assumed would turn on at night but we didn't get to use them. By the time we had returned from a day trip and had dinner, we only had a few hours until it closed. We understand that it is to respect neighbors and mostly because of the noise, however on the advertisement it said about enjoying the evenings, and star gazing etc. but that would mean being outside past 10pm so I am not sure why there is a curfew on the hot tub but not the outside area. Also due to the rain, we were limited to being outside unless we were in the hot tub under the shelter. We felt that we were respectful and turned down the music and eventually turned it off when it approached 9pm and turned off the jets, we also checked with the neighbors and they said that they couldn't hear us at all once they were inside. We lost track of time and were then approached and told it was shut at around 10:30pm by one of the owners. This wasn't very pleasant for us, as we felt like we were being told off and also that we were being monitored which was not a nice feeling and there was no lea way at all even though we said we had asked permission from the other guests. This was the only disappointment as the main reason we booked this lodge was for the hot tub and the fact that it was high in the hills and we would be able to enjoy ourselves freely. We do understand that rules are rules and these should be respected, but we did not know about these rules until we arrived and we also didn't deliberately break them, we lost track of time. Also it wasn't so much the being told to get out of the hot tub that was the issue, it was the way we were told and it wasn't a nice feeling. Apart from that, we cannot fault any other aspect. Overall the weekend was wonderful, the lodge was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute, and the hosts clearly put a lot of time and effort into making this place lovely. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
