I was visiting hay on Wye for a friends wedding and was felt very welcome at gwernyfed from the moment I arrived, our room was lovely and big and the bed was a dream to sleep in! Freshly cooked breakfast every morning and the best homemade granola I've ever tasted! Highly recommended!

My husband, 2.5 year old son and I were invited to a wedding in Hay-on-Wye and needed to stay overnight due to a 2 hour drive to our destination. After despairing of finding any accommodation willing to take a one night stay at a weekend on a Saturday night for a family room, I found this little gem! 
If you desire modern, banal uniformity, this is not the place for you. However if you love a quirky, cosy and arty look, book yourself in! 
Chris was the perfect host, accommodating my many dietary requirements without any murmur (I asked for salmon fillet, new potatoes and salad for breakfast!!!) and they heated up our toddler's milk at bedtime in a pan on the stove (no microwave at this B & B). The breakfast was delicious (much better than the food we had at the wedding) with homemade granola, homemade bread, fruit salad, yoghurt, full English and other cereals to choose from. Chris has a lovely personality: warm but relaxed without being too 'in your face' and happy to make gentle conversation. You must be a dog lover to stay here, Chris and his wife have two very friendly lovely dogs who greet you as soon as you arrive. After we had our breakfast, I asked if there was a short walk we could do and Chris directed us to the walk through the woods at the back of the house which was perfect! He even let us take the dogs much to the delight of our toddler. We stayed in the double room and asked for a mattress for our toddler but in fact we used the travel cot we brought with us just because our son hasn't graduated to a bed yet (we were unsure whether he would have done so when we made the booking). We had a seperate bathroon which was clean and functional and decorated with the quirky art that is present throughout this B & B. The bed was a bit soft for my husband but it was fine for me. If we come again to Hay-on-Wye, we will definitely stay here - loved it!!! Oh and the wi-fi access code and password were handily put on a card in our room so that we didn't have to ask for it.

We spent the weekend walking in the black mountains and arrived here soaking wet and filthy with an equally wet and filthy dog.   We were welcomed so warmly by Chris who immediately hung out our wet clothes and made us a cup of tea.   We went out for the evening, leaving an incredibly contented dog with Chris and Maiki, in front of their fire.    The bedroom was lovely and warm and comfortable.  On the Sunday morning we had the most delicious breakfast made by Chris and some really good sandwiches (home made bread), for our lunch.    As we weren't sure of the route back up to the mountains, Chris and Maikki came with us to the foot of the mountain and were absolutely charming.

My girlfriend and I stayed for 2 days and 2 nights in this very picturesque and remote Family Farmhouse right in the foothills of the Black Mountains. From our arrival to our departure Maiki and Chris were great hosts, giving us advice on the best routes and and trails to take for all the Brecon attractions, looking after us and making a delicious breakfast every morning.
I would highly recommend staying at the Gwernyfed B&B for a relaxing and enjoyable weekend getaway.

Great Friendly Farmhouse Stay.

We arrived here at the time we gave on booking only to find no one there, after repeated phone calls and waiting for over 2 hours we gave up and went somewhere else only to receive an email from them saying we'd have to pay 25% for not showing up and inconvenicing them, what a laughable way to run a business.
