Having just returned from a short stay in Three Glens House, I can definitely confirm the accuracy of the previous glowing reviews. It is the perfect place to experience all that the area has to offer. Many thanks to Neil and Mary who have created a stunning space and were a pleasure to deal with and also to Maureen who was really kind and welcoming (and is an excellent cook!). Look forward to hopefully visiting again!

This grand guest house is unique in many different ways.  Perched three-quarters of the way up the side of a lovely valley, this guest house gives the guests a fantastic elevated viewpoint of the world that all glasses are inspiringly three-quarters of the way full.  The questions in one’s mind changes from whether glasses being full or not full to more deeper questions; such as should I drink this exquisite glass of wine provided by the hosts or shall I not dull my senses and go outside and drink in the heavenly fresh Dumfriesshire air or even do both from the exquisite balcony.

Before guests soars to such heights however they have to put in a little effort to get there.  First you have to find the entrance of the track that will take you up the hill side.  The signs at the front gate have weathered significantly over the 2-3 years they have been there due to that good Dumfriesshire air.  Once the entrance is found it is time to challenge any limiting beliefs about your transport capabilities; thoughts such as “you want me to drive my shinny car through this very mucky farm yard then up that slippery looking land-rover type path, you cannot be serious!?!”. This is the first step so to speak that puts function before form, practical traction and nerve will be required to get you up that hill but as in life the people who do not quit but strive on get the prize of an incredible place to be there home for the next few nights.  A place that forces people to think and live out-side the box; a place that turns thinking and living upside down; a place that sparks creativity and inspiration. 

My motivation in visiting this house was to investigate how it would feel living in a cutting edge house with the latest MVHR technology; a technology that feeds the house guests that oxygen-rich Dumfriesshire air perfectly warmed by renewable methods to a comfortable temperature to sooth the receiver into dreamy slumbers where the imagination can run free. Well it made me feel so great that it has put the spring back into my step that has been getting a bit flat footed lately.

This house is like an over confident youth which has not been down trodden by the years of life but is full of life and energy on one side of its coin with the other side of that coin being the house is still to mature and overcome it’s youthful shortcoming, but these are easily forgiven for that youthful energy it passes to all who enter inside. 

Oh to feel young and alive again, practically priceless!

This place will sleep six but we were there on our own. Really quiet and relaxing. Bit middle of nowhere, drive to Moniaive  if you need anything. We were excellently looked after by Maureen who cooks breakfast and dinner. Choice of breakfasts, dinner is three course no menu. Tell her if there is anything you don't eat. All food was first class. House is interesting  "Grand Design" style. Views are fab. Upcycled bathroom ware is a novelty. They stopped making loos like these in 1923 because they weren't very good. They still aren't. Minor detail, don't let it put you off. Keep trying.  There is loads of space everything is very relaxed, views are perfect and the area is great. Book in when there's a festival on in Moniaive, there seems to be one every month. Great walking area.

Things have already been said about this place, so there is little to add. It is in a stunning location, in the middle of fields overlooking villages, and everything you need for a comfortable stay is there. We stayed midweek for two nights, and were there alone (apart from Maureen, our host and chef for the stay).
There is nothing to criticise about this place. Every piece of furnishing has been thought of, and to very high quality. 
There are a few things to consider.....
You will be sharing the home with your host. The food is delicious and plentiful, and it's prepared by the live in host. You can have privacy in your own beautiful room, but the communal areas are communal!
There is not much for kids, other than TV and the gardens.....it's pretty much geared for adults.
I'd go back tomorrow, but you have to pay for quality, so it'll be a while before I can afford a well deserved break again.


As it was our thirtieth wedding anniversary we booked a luxurious, quiet, romantic getaway with food provided. The food was wonderful and the place was extremely peaceful. However it wasn't romantic.
It loses a star as we didn't realise that we would be sharing the house with Nina, our cook. She was lovely, and very good company but we thought we would have the place to ourselves for some of the time. The open plan setup meant we were always aware of our food being prepared by someone at the other end of the room. For a bigger party this may have been less noticeable.
We didn't realise that we were meant to be out all day. Nina recommended a wonderful walk and the weather was amazing but for the amount we paid, staying in should be an option.
Still it's given our friends a good laugh as we described our romantic wedding anniversary treat... with a complete stranger! Next time we will read the information that goes with the photos!
