The Auld Cairn

A lovely guest house with a fabulous view and friendly, helpful bubbly host. Stayed overnight as early morning ferry which is less than 5mins from the guest house. Our room was a very generous size. Bear in mind though that nearby shops shut fairly early

A well reviewed B&B which we were looking forward to visit prior to boarding the ferry to N.I. We had room with a 4 poster bed and a sea view. 

We were greeted by Maggie who made us feel very welcome. She also advised us that the venue would be closing next week as it has been sold to a private buyer as a family home. 

The host was lovely, couldn’t do enough for us. Praise to Maggie indeed and she was amazing. The room was lovely and the bed very comfortable, amazing views. Would return. Breakfast was prompt and plentiful, set us up for the day. Very handy for the ferry to Northern Ireland.

You could not get a better host than Maggie! 
We stayed at the Auld Cairn coming off the late ferry from Belfast. We were greeted at the door with a warm smile and welcome. 
The breakfast was the BEST we have ever had!

We received a warm welcome at this lovely b&b. Maggie made us feel at home, and that nothing was too much trouble. The room was immaculate with a gorgeous en-suite. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We had a lovely room- clean with a great en suite. Tea tray was lovely with personal touches. Left too early for breakfast but the room and set up looked great. Clean towels and robes. Modern room and nice powerful shower. Maggie was lovely- apologies again about not updating the time! Elizabeth X

Stayed at the Auld cairn on business. The landlady was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautifully clean and bed was extremely comfortable. Found it quiet despite being on the road. The fridge with milk and water was very thoughtful. The room was serviced once a day.

Booked for one night prior to catching the ferry to Ireland.  So glad we did, our stay was fabulous.  Having endured a very long car trip due to the M6 being closed for many hours we arrived tired and nearly 3hrs later than planned, we were met by the host who went out of her way to make us feel welcome.  The rooms are a great size and beautifully appointed with lovely bathrooms.  Everything was spotlessly clean and all COVID precautions adhered to.  Little touches often make all the difference and the tea, coffee, hot chocolate (with marshmallows) and juice left for the kids after a long trip was very much appreciated.  Can’t recommend highly enough 

Fantastic large room with 4-poster bed.  Immaculately clean, wonderful breakfast and charming landlady.  The location of this hotel makes it perfect for the Cairnryan ferry services, and great for leisure travellers wanting to visit the Logan and Castle Kennedy Gardens.

Probably the best b&b/ hotel I’ve ever been in, food was 10/10, room was 10/10. Amazing service and friendly staff

Hotel also has a very interesting and intriguing story which is incorporated into the decor

A comfortable Stay

Excellent 

Sadly, we only had one night here in Cairnryan.  After travelling from Edinburgh to Cairnryan via Glasgow and Ayr, we arrived mid afternoon on a VERY cold and bleak day.

On our arrival, no one was there, so we called the number on the front door and a minute later, there was Maggie to let us in.  Woohoo … we have the whole place to ourselves … so we did not have to haul our heavy cases upstairs.

We went for a lovely walk along the waters edge and back via the road.  What a lovely little town.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable … with a fantastic shower.  As we had an early start in the morning, Maggie packed us a little breakfast pack for the journey.  How sweet.

We will recommend this cute little B&B to anyone and everyone.  Thank you Maggie.

Absolute Comfort - A Must Stay

As with most people we stayed at the Auld Cairn before our ferry to N. Ireland. The rooms were excellent, the host Maggie wonderful and helpful and the breakfast large and delicious. What more can you say?. We wanted to take the mattress with us but Maggie said no. Definitely 5 stars and would give even more if I could. We will be back.

Maggie is a star

The welcome and service throughout from Maggie was excellent. The room was very spacious and clean. The bathroom was very big and spotless with a very good power shower. The take away breakfast was most welcome for the early start to the ferry.
 The room smelt a little musty and probably could do with an airing or something and also a blind or curtain on the small back window as the light streams in their early in the morning. There is nothing in Cairnryan you need to go to Stranraer

Spot-on stay for the night before a ferry trip

Booked here to stay as we were going to Belfast with Stena Line for day. It's about 15 mins walk or a min by car from ferry terminal. Arrived at 10pm and greeted by Mags the owner who was lovely. Gave us water and fresh milk for room for our tea. Rooms were lovely. Top floor 2 rooms with our own private bathroom. Was like having our own wee floor in a hotel. Rooms were so clean and lively decor. Bed was AMAZING. I wanted to take mattress home as was so comfy. Breakfast next day was MEGA. Tasted delicious and loads to eat! Mags was an amazing host and made you feel so welcome. We would highly recommend this and will definitely stay again. Thanks 😀

THE BEST & BREAKFAST 😀

Booked for one night before getting a ferry.
TLDR: comfy bed, helpful owner, great breakfast, nice luxurious touches.

I had a nice relaxing nights sleep in the room followed by a delicious breakfast of salmon, scrambled eggs and caviar.
The room had a double bed and lovely rainfall shower. 
The owner was very helpful, and pointed us in the direction of a place for dinner the night we arrived.

Overall, if I was getting the ferry again I would try to book here.

Lovely place to stay

Arrived late for an early ferry the next morning after a long drive. The Auld Cairn was perfect. Very clean, warm, ideally equipped for giving you a home from home. Maggie was wonderfully welcoming, upgrading our twin room for free. Perfect for catching the ferries to Northern Ireland. The packed breakfast was a wonderful touch. It just felt like the owners genuinely want their guests to have as comfortable a stay as possible and put a lot of thought into everything. Greatly appreciated, thank you so much!!
