We were given a warm and friendly welcome by the manager Nathan, who went above and beyond to make sure that my family had a great dining experience. The food was served in good time and tasted lovely.

We prebooked Sunday lunch for a large family meal. There were 20 of us ranging in age from 92 to 2. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly & the table was ready for us including a high chair & small cutlery. The food was superb; it was hot, tasty & served efficiently. No mean feat with such a large party. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Only dropped in for a meal but what a great place. Food was all home cooked and tasted amazing. Staff although young were very friendly and accommodating. The menu was varied and served piping hot. Would highly recommend

This is a gorgeous listed building with lots of character, exposed beams and a big fireplace. The garden has tables and chairs and features a large apple tree, which was in bloom. 
We were welcomed to our one night stay with a warm meal, and the fire was put on for us to relax. 
The room was nice, featuring a slanted floor and exposed beams. 
Breakfast was great, and the service is very friendly. We came back in the evening after our trip to a country show, and were again served delicious food before we headed home. 
Overall a lovely venue, friendly, clean service and excellent food. Definitely recommended.

Booked a five night stay just to get away from it all and the Portway inn did not disappoint!

Very nice room, plenty of space. Comfortable bed and decent facilities.

Definitely the best thing is the food, limited menu when we stayed because of Covid-19 semi lockdown, but all handled extremely well by lovely staff and management. Excellent breakfast with some good choices available and the dinner menu also proved very good.

Only downside is the proximity of the main road which can get busy during the morning rush but would not hesitate to recommend.

Sometimes when you go back to a "great find" it doesn't live up to the first time. NOT the case here!  Staff are very friendly and welcoming, rooms are comfortable and the food (thank you Mark!) is delicious, high quality and very good value for money. The halloumi starter was very tasty and a generous portion. My partner's cod was very fresh and  similarly portioned, with lovely green veg and new potatoes, whilst my steak and ale pie did not disappoint and remains the best I've ever tasted. Slept well in a quiet room overlooking the garden and fields beyond, whilst breakfast in the morning offers an array of continental and very tasty full English options. Overall a great place to eat, a warm welcome and reasonably priced. We will definitely return.

Booked here for overnight stay before meeting in Hay on Wye as near on on route, turned out to a brilliant decision. Great little hotel with amazingly friendly staff really comfortable rooms and great food,
Stayed in a superior room, number 9 at the back of building, very quiet with view over garden, bar area was nice full of locals which is always a good sign, had steak and ale pie for food which was full of flavour and good quality and value.
The room was large with shower room, baths are available in other rooms,
Great night sleep, bed very comfortable and room nice and quiet,
Full Herefordshire breakfast in the morning, good size portions and very taste,
Will definitely stay again 

We called for lunch on a Saturday and were told that the Beef and Ale pie had been made that morning. It was the best pie we have had in any establishment as far back as could remember the gravy boat had a delicious real beef gravy, the chips were homemade, and the vegetables were freshly cooked. We also discovered they did accommodation. I hope this pub prospers.

We were visiting family in the area and stayed the night in this lovely Inn set in the countryside.
Our room was spacious very clean with a great shower room with toiletries and a very comfy super size bed also hospitality tray and tv. This hotel offered a choice of duvets and pillows to suit individuals if needed and is dog friendly too a bonus for us as there are lovely dog walks nearby.
The Inn  dates back to 16th centuries although some areas have been refurbished over the years The main areas are quirky with sloping floors and lovely fireplaces the whole atmosphere is warm and welcoming the bar area is a cosy place to enjoy the ambiance and there is a Horse Skull found under the floors encased in glass in the floor area  in the bar and cuttings from early newspapers on the wall near reception how the skulls were found.
It is easy to imagine this Inn as it would have been an original coaching inn and the history speaks volumes.
The breakfast was excellent with local produce very enjoyable and we would highly recommend a visit for a lunch or evening meal and definitely stay in the hotel if possible.
We found it a little Gem steeped in history very reasonable prices doggy friendly and would stay again.


I cannot fault this pub. The staff are very friendly and the pub is very clean. The toilets are clean the bar is never cluttered and everything is in order. 

Always quick efficient service. 

The food is lovely minimal menu for exquisite meals. 

The rooms are very looked after always clean and tidy. Love the cookies that comes with tea and coffee. 

So i work really early and would miss breakfast so instead they make me a packed lunch with sandwich crisps yogurt fruit and a juice box. This is a very personal touch as they ask what I would like. They dont have to do this its just a really good example of going the extra mile for guest's.

I couldn't recommend this lovely country pub any more.

Lovely friendly welcome from George the receptionist/barman/waiter/problem solver, for whom nothing seemed to be a problem. Comfy bed, but basic, old-fashioned shower with not much water pressure. Excellent evening meal, freshly-prepared and homemade, with well-kept real ale. Lovely find, but could do with some updating

Quirky, dated but very friendly and great food!

Stoped 4 years ago food and beer still good..if you stop be prepared for wonky floors its an old pub.we found it underused which is a shame but it is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by orchards so very pretty with the blossom out.There are a few niggles  but minor ones all in all i would stay again

Great Value for Money at Beautiful Location

The location for us was ideal. We just wanted somewhere rural, quiet and cosy. This is what we found. The staff were all so friendly, warm and welcoming. They really made our stay special. Our room was adequate. It had a massive cosy bed and dark curtains, so we slept soundly. The room was in need of a bit of TLC though as was the dining room. We ate there on both evenings and really enjoyed the food. There’s a good choice and it was very tasty. I wasn’t convinced it was homemade though. My delicious pie was certainly purchased at a wholesalers because I saw the jumbo cardboard packaging it came in from my bathroom window as it overlooked the outdoor bins area by the kitchen.

A very friendly Inn

Had a 2 night mid week stay visiting family locally. Great room (8) at back of venue overlooking the garden area. Hosts were very friendly and polite, breakfast was excellent, with plenty of it. I also ate in the restaurant each night and can thoroughly recommend that also. Total cost of room, 2 course evening meal each night and some drinks from the bar each night was around £75 per night, which for a very good standard of accommodation and food I found pretty reasonable, definitely recommend.

Warm fire, friendly staff and excellent grub
Bed in room 3 was bit soft and shower bit problematic
But clean warm and welcoming
Locals are a laugh Wes is six nations fanatic so drinks bit as support England, Clare one of
 life's travellers recovering from soiree with who dares wins who
 run a show along the road

The  horses skull is a bit odd in
 the floor bit like the godfather, but apparently helps acoustics
May return but will require to check crystal ball
