Had a great time staying at the elms guest house
Pete is very friendly very helpful and accommodating 
The rooms are very comfortable  good water pressure for the showers and you have WiFi

On the 11th September I took my wife Teresa for a Birthday treat to Cornwall. We come from Suffolk so it is a long drive. We had booked a hotel in Camelford (The Countryman Hotel) It was dreadful in just every respect. On the morning of the 12th September the owner refused to refund any money for the next 3 days already paid for so I decided to cut my losses and search for another place. I found "The Elms" online and phoned the owner, Peter immediately. I explained the situation and the fact that my wife was very upset. He was about to go out but said if I wanted to stay he could find us a room and would wait until we arrived at St Austell.
When we got to the guest house there was Peter with a very warm smile on his face despite his left arm strapped up due to a broken collarbone.
The room he had available was outside in a Swedish style log cabin.
It was clean in every way.
We were very happy and the day rate was cheaper than the previous "Fawlty Towers"
When in a local recommend pub, Peter turned up and offered to buy my wife and I both a drink too!
Breakfast was excellent and each morning a lovely lady called Mel helped Peter with serving and cooking.
Both Peter and Mel were very kind and friendly.
I would give this guest house 10 out of 10
WELL DONE!!!

Such a personal service,Peter is the loveliest host, great service, would stay again. Love St Austell, love the people, great breakfast, can't recommend enough!!! Lovely local pub really enjoyed the compan, food was fantastic. Beaches were not far and just a taxi or even a short walk away.

We stayed for a week and wish it could have been longer. Amazing, friendly host Peter who was helpful and makes superb breakfasts. Room clean, spacious and comfortable. Great location for exploring most of Cornwall. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.

Due to covid, our wedding was cancelled so to getaway from the disappointment of what would have been our wedding day, we decided to visit Cornwall. St Austell and the nearby Charlestown are absolutely beautiful. The Elms is a wonderful guest house, it's lovely and clean and the rooms are equipped with everything you need to make your stay that extra bit comfortable. No complaints at all about breakfast, it's all cooked/prepared to order with plenty of choice. We were even given some clotted cream fudge upon our departure! All in all, a fantastic guesthouse, great location and wonderful hosts. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back! Thank you! :-)

This guesthouse is cosy and comfy, perfectly located near mevagissey harbour and St Austell, and close to the quaint village of Pentewan. Pete is a lovely host and the gift of cornish fudge was a nice end to our stay. Would defo recommend.

What a gem of a place in St Austell, I would recommend ‘The Elms’ for either business or leisure stay. The room and dining areas were spotless. Nothing was too much trouble for Peter the host, who was full of local knowledge. Look forward to returning when I’m in the area.

Breakfast was a choice of cereals, toast and full English/Cornish, I'm sure it was grilled and not fried.
Good location, good access for beaches/bays, Eden project and various surrounding attractions.

Lovely place

Home from home.

My husband and I stayed for two nights whilst visiting friends who live nearby. Peter was very welcoming on our arrival, served up a lovely cornish breakfast on both days, and made our stay very comfortable. We stayed in the Eden room which has a huge bathroom, with a spa bath and shower over it. The bed (2 singles made into a double) was very comfortable, the room wasn't very spacious if you have lots of luggage with you, however everything was very clean and tidy and would definitely recommend it for a short stay.

Lovely weekend break

As I arrived at the Elms Guest house I was met by a friendly host in Peter. He helped me take my heavy bags up to my room. He later recommended all the nicest places to visit. The room that I stayed in was very clean and tidy. When I woke up in the morning I had a lovely tasting fresh full Cornish breakfast. Service was very speedy, throughout the entire stay Peter continued to be helpful as he offered to make pack lunches for my days out. I will definitely be returning

Fantastic Service

After a fairly late change of plans I booked to stay for three nights in the Eden suite. As a solo traveler this was more than enough space for me but having that huge bed to myself was lovely. I also had a very large bathroom (bigger than some hotel rooms I’ve stayed in, to be honest) with a whirlpool bath. Sadly I wasn’t able to try it as I couldn’t get it to work but I’m sure Peter would’ve helped if I could have been bothered to ask. 

Breakfast was very nice but needed to be ordered the day before, which makes sense in such a small establishment. Peter was also very helpful and gave me a lift to the train station on the day of departure. 

The place is otherwise well placed for the bus to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, fairly well for the bus to Charlestown which stops half way up the hill, but you’ll have a steep walk uphill to the train and bus station, and the city centre. Not too bad without luggage, though. :-)

Lovely stay in St Austell

We stayed at the Elms guest house last week and was made to feel very welcomed and felt comfortable. Peter, the owner was attentive, courteous and friendly and happy to make recommendations of where to visit and so on. The standard of cleanliness was high and the place was spotless. 

The Elms was situated fairly centrally and it was easy to navigate to other areas and places, e.g Mevagissey was a few minutes drive. We visited St Ives by train as parking there is difficult and Pete very kindly dropped us off at the station. 

The cooked breakfast was prepared to order and to a high standard also. 

My only negatives was although the breakfast was great, having the option of fruit and/or yogurt would have been very welcomed as an addition. 

I would be very happy to stay at The Elms again if we were visiting that part of Cornwall in the future.

Very comfortable

Peter - the owner was very welcoming and helpful. The accommodation was very good and located just a short stroll into town (albeit uphill but not surprisingly nicely downhill coming back after a meal). Positioning is great - being very close by car to the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and even only 30 mins from the other coast.

Highly recommended.

Peter and co. were excellent hosts  and the standards of cleanliness were faultless, our room was very comfortable with ample room in the shower/bathroom and all plumbing worked perfectly.There was a very good choice on the breakfast menu and always prepared to a high standard.As far as we were concerned it was b&b at its very best.
