An incredible place to stay, the warm friendly check in, the clean, well thought out room and the food and service really can’t be faulted. The staff really care about customer service, and take pride in where they work. I would recommend to anyone.

We last stayed at the Waterwheel in April 2016 and were very impressed with the ambiance and quality of the property, cuisine and customer service.  Our recent visit confirmed our previous experience and there has been a big expansion of the rooms but retaining the intimate nature of the Inn.  Food and service still amazingly good, with breakfast to die for!  Very highly recommended and we shall be back.

A very clean, friendly, comfortable B&B in a great, pleasant, relaxing location on the outskirts of St Austell. Owners and all staff were great hosts where nothing was too much trouble for them (other than Salmon with Waffles & Maple Syrup - Francesca’s reaction to the breakfast request was CLASSIC and SO FUNNY. Will never forget it!!). Superb location to use as a base for sightseeing around Cornwall and in very close proximity to Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan. Newquay and Padstow a 30 minute drive through very pleasant countryside.  Truro about 45 minutes away. Wouldn’t hesitate to use again next time I visit Cornwall

Simply Superb

Fantastic value for money! The Waterwheel Inn is perfectly situated for enjoying all that St. Austell and its surroundings have to offer with The Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Lanhydrock House nearby as well as picturesque Fowey, Charlestown Harbour and Carlyon Bay. 

Mark and Francesca have created a truly homely place to stay, with clean and well presented bedrooms, gallons of piping hot water and warm rooms. 

They are very warm and welcoming making you feel instantly comfortable. 

Breakfast is to die for with fresh local produce and plenty of options - you won't need lunch! 

In summer months the hotel offers a beautiful and highly accomplished garden to enjoy. Just beyond the gardens and along the river is a historic community project that Mark and Francesca have been heavily involved in restoring and maintaining which is the Menacuddle Well.

A simply wonderful place to stay!

A small friendly hotel with very helpful staff. Our dogs were made very welcome. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean as was the hotel generally. The gardens are a delight and I’m sure superb in the summer. The restaurant and bar were warm and well decorated. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

A Thoroughly Enjoyable Stay

This is a small hotel with a friendly, kind and immensely helpful staff. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are very clean and the beds comfortable. It has a lovely restaurant for a hearty, freshly cooked breakfast and good choices for an evening meal. When we stayed it was just a bit too cold to have breakfast in the spacious conservatory which overlooks the garden, pond and many tree ferns - almost tropical! Dogs are welcome and the owners have two of their own. The hotel is located close to the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and other places of interest. In our opinion, well worth a stay.

A small hotel, well worth a visit

You will not find a better hotel in this area to choose.Each room, corridor, restaurant and conservatory which  is often used for breakfast was immaculate. We had a full english breakfast and cereal which was enough food to last all day. Delicious. The gardens were beautiful. Plenty of free parking space and the owner and her staff were very friendly.

Fantastic one night stay.

We had an overnight stay with breakfast at the Waterwheel while visiting family in St Austell.  The Inn has been beautifully renovated and decorated throughout. My room was immaculate, clean and very comfortable .  There was a good choice at breakfast.  My daughter and husband also had dinner at the hotel. They both enjoyed their meal.  We would certainly stay again.

Very enjoyable stay

We spent three very enjoyable nights at The Waterwheel in mid-September while celebrating our wedding anniversary.  Our room, as indeed the whole property, was spotless and very comfortable. Francesca and her team were most welcoming and there was a very friendly atmosphere in the bar/lounge and restaurant.  Hot breakfasts were freshly prepared and delicious.  The restaurant served good hearty food and the portions were very generous.

Outside, there is an attractive patio leading to an impressive collection of tree ferns in the garden through which one can walk down to a public space with a flowing stream, waterfall and tiny chapel.  

All in all an ideal place to stay if you are visiting Eden Project or exploring the picturesque towns and attractions around St Austell.  Dogs, as well as guests, are given a warm welcome!

Comfortable and quirky - we loved it!

What a delightful experience!  Our room was comfortable, the meals were delicious, and the other guests were such fun to chat with.  The gardens in back are well worth exploring, all the way to the small chapel.  This is a very convenient location to visit the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both highly recommended.  

Happy & Comfortable Stay!

We stayed for two nights at this lovely place. Staff were really friendly and efficient. Breakfast was particularly good , with a great choice and the conservatory is a lovely setting. We had dinner on the first night and it was so good we decided to have diner again on the second night. 
The room was well equipped with pretty much everything you need.
My only moan was the bed. It was a wooden frame slatted bed which creaked and groaned every time you turned over! My review would have been 5 stars except for the bed.
This is a great value place to stay. We would definitely return
