This is a beautiful and very comfortable B and B . Very comfortable and an excellent breakfast too . There was also some private outdoor space for our room though the weather wasn’t amenable to using it . £8 taxi into central Norwich and great access to the broads too . Thankyou 

Such a lovely and peaceful few days staying here. Amazing breakfast & all round venue. Perfect place for a break in Norfolk. Would make a beautiful place to stay before a wedding or another special occasion. highly recommend :)

Really clean, lovely room, fantastic host and great breakfast. The bathroom was palatial and the bed was incredibly comfy - a really good nights sleep! I only we wish we had booked three or four nights instead of two. Hope to stay again!

I could not fault my stay here. The room I had is in the attic of the original house and is very large, warm and supremely comfortable. There is a wide range of cooked breakfast made to order. Very enjoyable weekend and would recommend.


Thankyou so much to the staff at Catton old hall for being so incredibly accommodating and beyond. I stayed here on the night before my wedding, had a room full of bridal party in the morning getting ready making a whole host of girls mess and then when my husband and I got back on the eve of our wedding the lovely lady who I think manages the B&B has cleared the whole room making it beautifully spotless with a bottle of fizz and a card for our arrival! Then when we went down to breakfast they’d made us up a newlyweds table too! They went above and beyond Thankyou so much for being a part of our special day and making it perfect ! We will definitely be coming back the room and building is so beautiful !

Hi Readers, I am back again. Hope that you enjoy this one. I have done reviews for visits in Portugal {Lisbon, Porto}, U.S.A. {Florida/Disneyland, New York, Washington DC} amongst others so please feel free to look at those as well. I always try and give as much information on not just the place itself but its location to other attractions, where possible. 

Simply outstanding, with Danielle { Manager} being the focal contact point.  The Hall, a Grade II listed building, dates back to 1632 which is when it was built as a "Gentleman's House " for William Bussey.  Danielle has gone to great lengths to keep the the interior decor in line with the period of 1632; hence the old oak beams, four poster beds in some rooms and decorative elements on the shelves, ceilings and even dining room articles that reflect that period where possibly. It is quirky but in a very nice and pleasing way.

On entering the front door, you receive a warm, open and very friendly welcome that makes you feel cosy as if your are entering another home rather than a large cold hotel or an indifferent B&B. Perhaps this also because she and her family, kids included, use part of the hall as their own living home and this feeling of homeliness wafts over into the type of welcome and excellent service that you receive during your stay. The Full English Breakfast is really great, being a marvelous way to start the day of touring. 

As another review pointed out, attention to detail, including levels of cleanliness was immaculate and of the highest order. Location was brilliant with good bus connections to the centre of Norwich {bus stop within not even 5 minutes walk from the B&B, giving you a feeling of being in the countryside but yet so close to the centre of town. Old Catton itself is small suburban village and Lodge Lane is part of the conservation area within that village. 

If you are planning to visit the Norfolk Broads and indeed Norwich itself, this would be the ideal spot from which to base your operations as the driving distances are not far at all, knowing that at the end of the day you come back to the peace and quiet of a countryside atmospheric setting.  

Danielle does not serve dinner, there are a number of pubs again within easy reach that would do good value for money pub meals. If you wish travel a bit further, visit the White Horse Country Pub and Kitchen, North Walsham Road, Crostwick, Norwich, NR12 7BD {Tel 01603 737 560}.  Full Menus are served all day {at present}, the quality of food is very good; if you happen to be a gin fan {not to excess}, they do Gin selections with a variety of mixers that would appeal to most pallets. My wife would agree as she has become somewhat of a connoisseur when it comes to different types of Gin and the mixers that go with it. 

So folks until the next one, that's all for now until the next one. Needless to say, when we return to that neck of the woods, Catton Old Hall will be our preferred place to stay by a long way.

We spent 3 nights in this charming B&B where we were warmly welcomed by the friendly manager Danielle. She was very accommodating and made sure our stay felt comfortable. The house is beautiful and we really felt at home, with the warm atmosphere and cosy environment. We highly recommend it for anyone staying in the Norwich area. 
We actually felt very disappointed and sad when an American couple staying at the same time as us left a bad review on booking.com after we witnessed them saying that everything was fine and they were happy with their stay when asked by Danielle. Their review is not in any way a reflection on either the house or staff, both of which were incredible.

We stopped at the Catton Old Hall as it was close to friends we we were visiting. It was an excellent choice. Our room, with two double beds was enormous, the sleep quality was excellent and the full English breakfast was magnificent and a great start to the day.

Beautiful hotel. Immaculately kept, lovely interiors. Attention to detail is spot on: cute little home made chocolate treats instead of biscuits in the rooms, a bottle of wine provided (which I didn’t use as I was working but it was a nice touch). There’s an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ feel to the reception area. Breakfast was delicious. Service was great.

Had a night away and shopping day in Norwich , my husband brought me a gift experience voucher and Catton Old Hall was among the hotels , we arrived in the afternoon to a very friendly lady , our room was two floors up and a standard double room , a lovely large room and shower room , an extremely comfortable large bed . There was small windows and skylights but still nice and cheery. Complementary tea , coffee, small bag of goodies and water , also a small drinks fridge with drinks to purchase if you wish . A very comfortable nights sleep and a full english breakfast in a lovely dining room , with juice and cereal available . A very pleasant stay , although short and sweet and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at this lovely house/hotel if staying in Norwich in the future !
