Heatherbank B&B

Very big room, lovely and spacious. Shared  bathrooom which was fine as we were the only ones on our level. Wonderful hosts and very homely. Lots of animals which we loved. Very tasty full english which set us up just right for  the day.

We travelled here for work and found our stay mostly pleasant. Heatherbank B&B is absolutely beautiful and very quirky. The décor and quality of the accommodation looks and feels like home, although the owners leave a lot to be desired in the way of welcoming you. If you are not keen on animals – quails, chickens, cats, dogs etc. – it probably isn’t for you, but I loved this aspect. 

We stayed in the Jade Room, which with sofas and a kitchen is more of an apartment. The room was very clean and comfortable, and having the kitchen – which was very well equipped – was incredibly helpful. Bear in mind that the guest kitchen backs onto this bedroom via a door and hatch, so you may hear other guests using it in the night. There were a few cobwebs, but I was relatively unphased by this, it’s an old building and somebody’s home after all. Ample tea and coffee facilities which were replaced daily – they actually use real teabags, not the single sachet ones! A little chilly in the mornings but nothing a jumper wouldn’t fix. The beds are presumably quite old as they are very creaky, but again this didn’t particularly bother me other than that it made me quite aware of waking others with my movements.

Mary who runs the B&B had been injured, so it was being cleaned by another lady who was incredibly friendly and helpful. We found Mary and her husband to be somewhat peculiar and unapproachable. Parking is very limited, so when we were forced to park in the only space we could find, Mary asked us to move – quite understandably as we were causing an obstruction – but with an incredibly rude and unnecessary attitude, which was more of a telling-off. This might be ok from your mother, but not from somewhere that you’ve paid £70 per night to be. Once we had moved our car, somebody reversed into it. Mary also insinuated that we were smoking in the room, which we absolutely would not dream of doing.

You will be asked to take your shoes off in the B&B, and there are instructions posted all over the place requesting that you take your shoes off, don’t eat in your room etc. which seem a little excessive and feel like being back at school. Lots of the other reviews complain of things such as the animals, which are actually listed on the website…

Heatherbank B&B has a good WiFi connection. Nobody mentioned breakfast, so I'm not sure how this arrangement works. The bathroom is shared, and I had no problem with this – although we had no hot water for the first night. Walking distance to the high street. Very large TV with Freeview and a DVD player. Despite a few teething problems and limited privacy, Heatherbank B&B is clean and safe, so I would return for a short stay and would recommend this B&B to others. Absolutely loved working while looking out of the lovely bay window and hearing the birds sing!

Quirky / Peculiar

Lovely relaxing locatioon

Our office booked this accommodation for us as we was working local on arrival we was met by the owners both very nice and the place was well looked after we met the small dogs both very cute we walked in to town for an hour then headed back as we had an early start so bed and breakfast this is the point we only got bed as when we asked for a tea we got told to make our own in the room no good morning would you like some breakfast nothing all that was on offer was tea with milk in them horrible plastic pods not good if you stay in hotels often then you no nothing like fresh milk being served in your tea so ask before you take your shoes off if you get breakfast or even a brew to start your day 

Bed & breakfast well bed !!! 

Owner very polite, as soon as we walked through door she asked us to take our shoes off. We did, and we were shown to our room. Room very nice, shared bathroom with glass panelled door.  Notice on walk asking you not use the towels on rail or the bath mat. We were supplied with a towel in room but no bath mat.  Notices and instructions allover the place, excuse me but we have paid to stay in this b/b.  We felt intimidated. O by the way if you are found smoking in doors, you will be fined £100 and asked to leave.
On the first internal hallway doorway the gripper rod is not covered by carpet, the carpet has worn away, unfortunately my husband trod on the tacks and injured his foot, why, because we were asked to take our shoes off.. Notices on stairs asking you to remove shoes. All too ridiculous for words. The owner has dogs and cats. We didn't know this. Iam allergic to cats, they wonder freely. Told we had parked in the wrong place, had to move a few inches

Bring your slippers

Very friendly to begin with although ordered to take our shoes off as soon as we walked in, even though there were very sharp nails poking through the carpet by the door.
The room was lovely however the curtains did not shut the whole way, being in the conservatory room that meant loads of light coming through. On website said it would be a garden view however only had view of the conservatory which was full of plants
Unable to eat in the room which was ridiculous.
Was not told there was a ‘guest information book’, was not told there was a kitchen or a dining table that we could eat at, even though there was. 
We were told off for parking in ‘Mary’s space’ however were not told beforehand not to park there. 
Lots of noisy animals keeping us awake all night. 
Owner was very rude, waited right by the bathroom door and knocked on when my friend was in the shower saying ‘are you going to be long because I need to clean’ 
Owner did not make us feel welcome at all, ignoring my friend when greeting her.
Owner walked into our bedroom at 9am whilst we were still in there. door was locked and she didn’t even knock
Owners were playing the trombone early in the morning and walking up and down the corridor shouting accrross the house to eachother, able to hear every conversation they had, and could probably hear every conversation we had too
Owner constantly reminding us to be out by 10:30 for checkout
Said freeview was available however did not work and was not allowed to retune the tv! 
Owner sat at a desk in the hallway which was directly outside the bathroom, making us feel like we couldn’t use the bathroom! 
Beds very uncomfortable
Front door extremely heavy and narrow making it extremely difficult to go through especially with bags
Overall terrible experience, will not recommend to anyone!
