Orchard Lodge B and B

Stayed here in August 2016, what a great find. Large bedrooms, impeccably clean, lovely garden and orchard to sit out in and really good breakfasts with home made jams and marmalade. The hosts are fantastic, they really go the extra mile, we were offered tea/coffee and home made cake on arrival, we later sat in the lovely garden having a drink of wine and they bought out some crisps for us! We visit Scarborough every year and have stayed in a number of B&Bs, this is far and away the best. The owners only took it over in March this year so ignore any trip advisor comments from before then. We will certainly return here whenever we visit Scarborough.

Best B&B in/near Scarborough

We stayed here while walking the Wolds Way, for which it's well situated. It's a slightly unusual arrangement in that the bungalow doubles up as a beauty salon and a B&B, but nothing wrong with that. 

Jeanie was friendly when we arrived but there were a few things that seemed not quite as you'd expect. When we woke the following morning we found that Jeanie had been taken into hospital during the night. I imagine she'd been feeling unwell the previous day, which probably explains why things were as they were. Although our experience here was "poor" - if Jeanie had not been ill - I'm sure it would have been much better. 

So, if you're reading this Jeanie, hope that you're feeling much better now.

An awkward stay, but entirely understandable....

I visited a long time ago when there was a wedding the previous day at the church and spent breakfast with the new husband and wife - she'd used the beauticians the day before. I found that quite awkward as we were the only guests and were encouraged to talk to each other although I thought they'd probably have preferred being left alone.  It was odd staying in the person's house which she runs a beauticians as well as a B&B. We ate breakfast in the reception area. I felt I had to be on my best behaviour as the owner had very white carpets everywhere. The bathroom wasn't en suite. I was told off by the owner for my poor parking when I arrived so I think this put me off too. She discouraged me from going to the local pub on my own which has quite good food. I went anyway.

What a bizarre place this is!!
I was the only person booked into the B&B....bear the word "booked" in mind here...
Upon arriving to a locquacious landlady, I was ushered into the kitchen to be shown where the milk was kept as I was leaving early next morning.
I was told that there was no hot water, but it was switched on for me....."it takes an age to warm up"......?
I was then shown my palatial suite, home for the evening. Once left alone my suspicions of the lack of cleanliness were laid before me...several black hairs in my bed!!
I got the impression that my landlady was not too hot on changing the bed linen.
Ok....1 whole hour later, still no hot water!?
I made the decision not to sleep IN the bed, but on it....The pillows smelled less than fresh, almost of stale Febreeze....so I used the spare pillows in the wardrobe and wrapped them in a towel.....2 hours now....Still no Hot Water, so I boiled the kettle and had a wash in the sink.
So settling in for the night I fell asleep with the help some Shiraz, bed was comfortable and the village is quiet, but I stirred at 4.30am and was reminded of the unclean surroundings I was in.....I wasn't getting back to sleep anytime soon so I gathered myself for another day at work.......I didn't try the hot water!!
Thankfully I had arranged to skip Breakfast.
I get the impression that this was once a pleasant place to stay, but it has gone down hill...the lawn is waist high....and its dirty!!
Oh! I was booked in.....why no hot water??

A Rum Old Place.......

This was a bad experience. Not enough front door keys for the guests staying, no access to adjoining bathroom, under cooked eggs for breakfast with gone off milk. Just awful. We could not wait to leave.
