The Saracens Head Inn

Wonderful hotel right by the River Wye and Symonds Yat Rock. Staff are very attentive and the food is tasty. Room was very clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again!

We were not guests at the hotel but as we’d arrived early to go for a walk we went to ask for a coffee to start the day.  We were brought our drinks and offered a pastry each too. Such lovely people and excellent customer service  - the coffee was amazing too!  Thank you to everyone who went out of their way to look after us. These little acts of kindness are the things that make places stand out.

Sadly only a 1 night stay, on our way home from the Hay Festival, but nevertheless, we had time to appreciate all the virtues of this very historic old inn.
Firstly the booking procedure was most efficient & we received prompt responses to our queries.
On arrival we enjoyed a good thirst-quenching Real Ale & fantastic fish & chips (delicious haddock & good batter, mushy peas & plenty of Tatar sauce - well done Chef)
The service by the young friendly team was impeccable.
Then after negotiating ancient passages & stairs, we were pleasantly surprised by our ultra modern bedroom & en suite. It had a Lovely view over the river, a very comfortable king-sized bed, massive TV, & so many electric points into which to plug all our devices. En suite very stylish with very efficient hot & cold water supply.
And breakfast was terrific too - Real fresh fruit, Yeo Greek Yoghurt, lovely eggs & bacon & a very generous sized Cafetière of coffee.
Everything about our experience was 5 star.

So we would thoroughly recommend the Saracens Head for accommodation

Lovely hotel, super room, great view of river, excellent dinner and breakfast. Can't fault it

Lovely overnight stay on 11.05.25. Stayed in room 8 overlooking the river. Room comfortable, clean. and well equipped. We were there on a Sunday so the fact that the room was above the outside drinking area wasn't a problem, but might give some noise in the room from late drinkers on a Saturday or in high season. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were both good. Would absolutely stay again.

We enjoyed every single moment of our stay at the wonderful Saracens Head Inn from the initial welcome we received on checking in, right up until the day we had to leave (very sadly) and checked out. We stayed 3 nights over Easter in a very well appointed and comfortable room overlooking the River Wye. The facilities in the room were excellent and each day our room was fully serviced and any tea / coffee / sugar etc. we had used was restocked, meaning we never had to ask for anything. Breakfast really was excellent with so much to choose from - fruit, cereal, yoghurt, pastries or a full English. Nothing was too much trouble and drinks (coffee / tea/ fruit juice) were in plentiful supply.We ate in the restaurant on two separate evenings and again, the choice was great, served quickly (even when the pub was very busy), piping hot and always with a smile too. The Saracens Head is located in a beautiful valley and the scenery is absolutely stunning. We loved everything about our stay and will definitely visit again.

The whole place was absolutely spotless. The breakfast was delicious and the service couldnt have been better. It was a joy to stay there.

Comfortable, Historic, Welcoming

Lovely overnight stay.

Absolutely perfect in every way!

Warmly welcomed on arrival, and shown parking area
Confirmed times for Dinner and Breakfast, and provided us with a choice of rooms
The room we originally booked was perfect, large, with river views, plenty of storage, and a superb size bathroom with over bath shower, and some toiletries.
The bed was extremely comfortable.
Large wall mounted TV, and usual Tea making facilities including biscuits, water etc.
The evening Dinner was superb food choices with plenty of flavours and taste at reasonable prices.
The breakfast was fresh produce and a good range of choices
All helped by an extraordinarily welcoming and helpful team

My son had recommend and was joining us as a pre meet for christmas

Now the key elements that made this outstanding 

During the evening the staff recognised the river was rising quicker than expected, so arranged with us to move cars higher up the road, and escorted us up, and brought us back to the hotel - there  was a risk of being stranded if the river continued to rise.

In the morning the river had burst its banks in several areas, my son needed to find a way to work in monmouth
The breakfast team we were advised were on their way (now bear in mind as only 3 staying some hotels would have just cancelled,) but this team with the owner drove to a nearby area and they walked with produce through the woods and over a number of obstacles to ensure we were served a breakfast, and genuinely apologetic for something that was out of their control
Furthermore, the owner then organised to take us through the back way up through the woods to his vehicle, and then take us to the area where the cars were stored overnight.
This is a service beyond that expected by any organisation and it was a pleasure to have not only experienced this, but a huge thanks to the staff members whom all went out of their way for the Customer

Service - Above and Beyond

We have stayed at the Saracens Head four times now, and each time we’ve been so impressed by this lovely pub on the banks of the River Wye at Symonds Yat. The pub itself is very attractive, very welcoming with a good range of drinks including real ales, nice wines and great food, there are plenty of staff to ensure that you never wait too long to be served even in busy times as this is an understandably very popular watering hole for visitors and residents alike. The bar is cosy, especially when the table candles are lit at dusk, the restaurant is also really lovely, food in both bar and restaurant is really good, as is the excellent service in both. Staff here are young, friendly and efficient, and there’s always someone to help you with anything you need. It was particularly nice to see someone early in the morning sweeping the terraces in preparation for the busy day ahead, every table was soon full of people enjoying coffees, lunchtime drinks, bar meals etc overlooking the river.   Bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and modern, there are plenty of fluffy white towels and the usual toileteries, the big beds are really comfy, the rooms have been well planned to offer all you need for an enjoyable stay, there are plenty of plugs in sensible places (ie by the dressing table mirror and bedside tables) for your  hairdrier, straighteners, phone chargers etc with decent lighting, a wall mounted tv and the usual tea, coffee, biscuits and water tray. Our room (3) was at the front, upstairs with french doors out to a Juliet balcony, a couple of chairs and a little table had been placed in front of the window and were ideal for enjoying sitting watching the activites below, including canoe-ing on the river, the river cruise boat, ducks, swans and dogs and the occasional stand-up  paddle boarders all enjoying the water. There’s an ancient hand-pulled ferry across to the opposite bank, free to hotel guests, which is a novel way to get to the other side, and a great circular walk through the woods, over a big (wobbly!) river bridge and back down the other side, around 5km of fairly flat pathways, mostly within sight of the beautiful river. This has to be one of our favourite places to stay, anywhere, and we highly recommend The Saracens Head to anyone.

Magical place to Eat, Drink, Stay.

We stayed here for one night and can't wait to return! We had a lovely room with river view - spacious, clean, well appointed and modern. Lots of windows - very welcome in the heat. There is free parking, lovely walks and the pub itself is great - it was so nice just sitting by the river. The staff are lovely too. Food is delicious and plentiful - we loved our dinner and our breakfast. I think this might just be one of my new favourite places!

Stayed In room 11 - room was clean, beautiful and spacious. The bed was super comfy.    breakfast was lovely and very good value for money . Personally didn’t use the restaurant other than for breakfast as it seemed pricey. Not much around the area other than the beautiful walks and scenery. Other activities just a couple of minutes away in the car but if you’re looking for a peaceful stay with plenty of walks it’s a perfect off grid break . There is a canoe hire on site also

We were walking in the area and needed somewhere to stay for the evening, so our group booked a few rooms at the Saracen's Head for a one night stay. We arrived quite early in the morning, at about 9:30am, but they were happy to provide free parking - I believe this is for hotel guests only. The rooms were even better than we expected. I had a river view room, which was lovely! Really spacious, clean and comfortable, and I slept really well too. Waking to the peace and quiet of the Wye was a real treat! To top it off, the breakfast the next morning was brilliant! Can't wait to stay again!

Ideal overnight stay

We came here for Sunday lunch, it was very busy as it was a gorgeous day. Parking is a bit tricky and you have to pay. Once inside the pub is very nice, food was amazing, best cauliflower cheese and the beef was amazing. Service was unbelievably slow, and tables were not cleared, apart from this it’s definitely worth a visit.
