This has to be one of the best B&Bs we've stayed in. It was almost like having a warm hug for a whole weekend. Super cosy, the comfiest bed ever, and fantastic home cooked food for breakfast. It's in a quiet location but not far from Ripon and a stone's throw from Fountains Abbey. We loved the big farmhouse table where everyone chatted together at breakfast. Maggie is a super hostess and went to great trouble to ensure we had a good breakfast as we weren't able to make the normal breakfast time service. Will definitely be back when we need to recharge our batteries.

If you were to imagine the perfect farmhouse B&B then you would be hard pushed to come up with better than Mallard Grange.  I had a long weekend there and it was one of the very best B&B experiences I have had over many years of travelling.  Maggie is simply a perfect host-  friendly, considerate and engaging.  If you want genuine Yorkshire warmth and welcome, this is absolutely the place to stay!

The care and attention to detail extends through the accommodation.  I was given the 'Fox' room which is in a beautiful outbuilding directly opposite the main farmhouse.  Original stonework buildings beautifully kept, the rooms are a very generous size with really smart furnishings and decor that compliment the countryside colours outdoors.  The bed was tremendous too, huge and extremely comfortable.  Ensuite bathroom was also very smart with a superb shower.  Fresh milk, handmade shortbread and anything you could need all on hand.

It would be impossible to review Mallard Grange and not specifically mention breakfast.  Served in a beautiful dining room in the farmhouse, the main event of the farmers breakfast is freshly cooked and all local produce where Maggie knows the farmers and sometimes even the actual cows!  There are plenty of hot options but I do really recommend the main breakfast as a perfect example of a proper, superbly done affair.  On top of the cooked offerings there are lots of cereal and fruit choices and a wonderful array of local jams and condiments in the centre of the table for with some toast.

The area is great too.  Fountains Abbey on the doorstep (literally) is an obvious must-see in the area, but there are numerous gardens, stately homes and wonderful market towns to visit, the fells and forests to walk through, along with Ripon, Harrogate and York all very close by.  So many wonderful restaurants nearby too - the spectacular Grantley Hall has several (just a mile away) but all over this part of the county you are spoilt for choice.  A hot tip from me - Hansom in Beadale (another beautiful marker town) is superb and surely heading for the upper reaches of the Michelin list.

So if you want to visit this beautiful part of Yorkshire, and you really should, then please do stay here to get the embodiment of what rural northern England is about.  Great hospitality, warmth and care along with a pride in what you do. Lovely welcome from Maggie (and a few cats)  Our room was spacious with lovely views out to the gaden and a large comfortable bed, the homemade shortbread was a nice touch.  Breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice and cooked to order using local produce including freshly laid eggs. Maggie (and Charles) were lovely, very hospitable. A special thankyou for the brandy tipple and game of cards on our last evening. There are plenty of places in the surrounding area to visit and lovely walks, would highly recommend.

What a lovely B&B this is situated in the Yorkshire countryside and certainly one we will happily recommend and return to at some point. The room was spacious and well thought out with wonderful views of the locality. The breakfast was unsurpassable with much of it being home grown as well as home made. Maggie is an excellent cook and puts a lot of time and effort into making all her guests feel welcome. Mallard Grange is a real ‘must’ if you want to witness Yorkshire hospitality at its best.

Incredible host and outstanding breakfast. Tight windy staircase to room, beautiful cookie, in room, on arrival. Chocolate truffles which were delicious. Very comfy, huge double bed. Total peace and quiet throughout all our three night stay. The haddock at breakfast was beautiful. In fact it was so nice we had it twice!
Would thoroughly recommend in all respects.

Lovely b&b in a beautiful setting. Maggie is a wonderful host, the rooms are really well presented with lots of nice touches. The cooked breakfast is excellent, with plenty of local produce from their farm. The location is really good with plenty to explore on the doorstep.

We just stayed here for 3 nights. Lovely large ground floor room which was once the blacksmith’s workshop.  This is a working farm run by a family who also provide an excellent B&B service. Maggie and her team are brilliant. Very friendly with lots of local knowledge. The breakfast is fantastic and the farm is close to lots of attractions and pubs for dinner. 
Make sure you try Maggie’s shortbread provided with your tea / coffee in the room. We would definitely stay again. 

We so enjoyed our stay in this real farmhouse with the perfect host  - warm and welcoming Maggie. Breakfasts were a delight, shared around a big table with other guests, with Maggie’s delicious home-cooked food and easy, lively  conversation helped along by her obvious enjoyment of chat and fun.
The house was so full of character, our bed and bedroom big and comfy…we forgave the low shower pressure which they have tried to improve. This was a proper BnB ..we loved it.

Never stayed on a farm before but now converted because of our wonderful experience at Mallard Grange. What a find, five star accommodation and Maggie! She is a wonder and anticipates your every need, great fun and cooks a super breakfast. Across the road from Fountains Abbey which continues to be a must see if in this area. We had a wonderful walk through the abbey and Studley Royal on a perfect day. Thanks Maggie for everything and especially the honey. 

A superb farmhouse to stay at in a lovely part of Yorkshire.   Maggie and her team made us very welcome and the breakfasts were amazing with lots of choice.

what a find

Nice quiet couple days away . Maggie was most welcoming . Breakfast both days was soo good . Great variety of cereals and fruit . Then home cooked breakfast to order .  One morning we had fresh homemade smoothies delicious. . Room was very cosy with TV sofa and small fridge with fresh milk and water . Tea tray with great selection of hot drinks and homemade shortbread . . Ensuite with toiletries and bathrobe too .  All ready recommended to friends we had a lovely stay . 

Lovely peaceful place to stay

We have stayed in quite a few beautiful bed and breakfasts over the years. But this is without a shadow of a doubt the best yet.  Ran by a lovely lady called Maggie who is a bundle of positivity helped by her friends. Outstanding room, lovely bed and bathroom overlooking the front of the house where the majestic Doris the white horse spends her days. Our bathroom view was the farms herd of cows. Breakfast was just beautiful and what's not to like about fresh baked crossiants while waiting for your cooked breakfast. Situated a stone's throw away from fountains abbey just outside Ripon, the beautiful towns of Yorkshire are easily accessible as are some superb local pubs with amazing food.
