Great location just metres from the village centre with the added bonus of parking at rear.Excellent host - very informative about local attractions and amenities and even booked a table for us at a local pub for our evening meal.

Steve, the host was excellent with his advice on places to go & things to see.  The breakfast's were excellent

We spotted this stunning property and looked no further. The house did not disappoint, grand and full of character. The only thing with more character is Steve the owner, what a wonderful helpful Gent he is. He's truly worthy of a visit! I guess if he has room free you could try staying a couple of nights or so as we did!The property is grand and beautifully presented with wonderful gardens, stunning views I thoroughly enjoyed my full cooked breakfast my wife said Steve's scrambled eggs were pretty Dam good too!We'll be back, if he'll have us.Thank you Steve and Jill (the patient right hand) we had a lovely break.

Where do I start? What a gem of a find. Situated 3.5 miles from the Elan Valley visitor centre with off street safe parking and beautiful gardens. From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the hospitality and facilities of this beautiful b&b. The room was huge and so lovely decorated taking you back in time. We had a king bed and en suite bathroom, the room was spotless. However it was the owners that made it so extra special. They really couldn’t do enough for you, from dining recommendations to walking/running routes and places/things to see. I had warm porridge madeFor me every morning after my run and the little fruit and yoghurt desserts that were homemade were amazing, I miss them already. My husband had full English every morning and the toast was proper bread! I really can’t fault a single thing about this lovely hotel. You really will not be disappointed. There is a tea and cake shop about a minute walk away (we didn’t actually visit ) and plenty of pubs serving food, a couple of food shops (co-op) etc all within a minute or two’s walk. Also the fish and chip shop was lovely and worth the visit. The weekend was amazing and made so super special by staying here. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back. A really beautiful B&B with lovely rooms and wonderful service. The host couldn’t do enough for us and we hope to be back to stay again in the future.

We had a lovely stay at Penralley House, Steve was a great host, and was very welcoming, he was happy to do anything for you so that you had an enjoyable stay, book restaurants, provide the use of his gorgeous garden. Penralley house is an ideal location for Elan Valley, Red Kite Feeding, Aberystwyth, Devils Bridge and all the lovely mountain scenery. The breakfast is outstanding really hot when it get to you, with many choices. Definitely recommend and would stay again if I am that way.

My family and I all had a wonderful comfortable and relaxing stay at Penralley House B&B that is situated in a most convenient location near to the historic town centre of Rhayader with wonderful views of the beautiful Elan Valley and surrounding countryside. My family and I were grateful to Steve for his helpful and professional hospitality and we thoroughly enjoyed Jill’s delicious cooked breakfasts, coffee and tea. It was a memorable and special experience to stay in such a magnificent Georgian town house that has been lovingly restored by the current owner. The superb spacious and well-furnished bedrooms were fantastic to relax in after an enjoyable day exploring the local heritage sites. Many enjoyable walks are available locally with wonderful scenery and views across the Elan Valley including the incredibly engineered dams and reservoirs which are all magnificent. We highly recommend this outstanding B&B and we all look forward to returning in the future.

Steve, our host, was so knowledgeable about community attractions and services. He provided assistance above and beyond any expectations when we lost a phone and left without it. We’re so thankful! The rooms at Penralley are lovely. We spent some time on the benches - enjoying the garden. Breakfasts? Excellent! All fresh and delicious. We had a wonderful two-night stay

Lovely guesthouse in a beautiful village in Wales

This place is a real treat, everything about it, from being greeted by the host Steve, down to the little details. Nothing to much bother for him. Booking us in for our meal on arrival, down to information on things to do in the area. His Diamond as he calls her, makes a superb breakfast, and is a lovely warm bubbly person. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here, the gardens are beautiful, and when we finished our days out, everybody sat in the garden talking. We would recommend this lovely quaint building, full of character too anyone.

A gem!

Home from Home

Penralley House has been beautifully restored and has maintained many of the original features. The garden is simply amazing and when I was there Penralley House hosted an Open Garden afternoon where more than 500 people came to enjoy all that the garden offered. Breakfast a la carte was excellent and my room had the most amazingly comfortable bed. Steve thank you so much for a very enjoyable 3 nights stay. Also thank you to your two 'helpers'! Ideally situated, Penralley House is very close to the centre of Rhayader and many eateries. Thanks for being a great host Steve, see you in 2024.

Beautiful house and fantastic welcome

Me and my wife stayed here last week, Met by Steve when checking in who gave us all the information as well as some tips on places to eat and things to do in the area. 

Our room was spotless, very comfortable bed and plenty of tea/coffee. We didn’t have a shower, just a large free-standing bath which suited us. 

Breakfast was good, all freshly cooked with loads of choices, we went for the full Welsh breakfast, which had everything you would expect. 

I had some car problems with my boot on checking out, I would like to thank Steve, Gill and the other guests who tried to get us going again. We used tie wraps and managed to get home, the problem was just some wires rubbing together that we fixed yesterday. 

I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended Penralley House to friends.



Great stay, lovely comfortable accomodation

A well run, comfortable and clean B&B in an excellent state of repair. We were in the Cedar room at the rear of the building which was probably somewhat quieter than rooms in the front - the A470 runs immediately outside the front of the building and large, noisy HGVs pass by from time to time although not at night that we noticed.

Room was a good size with plenty of space for bags, clothes, etc and with a good-sized ensuite bathroom - I do hate bathrooms jammed into cupboards! This had plenty of room.

A large, pleasant and quiet garden at the rear where you can have picnic lunches/dinners or just relax.

Excellent breakfasts included in the room price.

Plenty of private, off-street parking to the rear but access is rather narrow - i could get our 1.8 metre wide car through with perhaps 20 cm to spare on each side.

Owner very helpful with recommendations on where to eat.

Top B&B

Visited this week on a two night stay to celebrate anniversary and visit old ‘haunts’ from childhood. This has got to be one of the best guest houses or b&b’s in the whole of mid Wales. It is a lovely period house close to the centre of town yet set in large well cared for gardens with lovely rear views. It has been tastefully and carefully renovated/restored by the current owner Steve, who goes out of his way to ensure that you have an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with modern en-suites. Nothing is too much trouble for Steve, very ably assisted by Gill. The breakfasts are brilliant, as described by other visitors and Steve is a font of knowledge regarding the local area and places to visit/eat. The front road can be quite busy but doesn’t  adversely impact on any stay. The side drive is narrow but accessible to most cars and there is ample parking around the rear, which is a definite bonus in Rhayader. Needless to say the lovely Elan Valley and Red Kite centre are within a couple of miles. We will certainly visit and stay here again and recommend it to anyone we know.
