Great little village pub with atmosphere and decent pub grub, and rooms above.

We enjoyed the Jail Ale and an excellent steak and Stilton pie.

Stayed in Room 2, although small and a little tired it was clean and comfortable and more than good enough for an overnight stay.

Decent breakfast and friendly staff, I’d happily stay again

Such a lovely place to stay. Very accommodating very clean. Staff and locals welcoming.  Food was great. I did worry that there might be an issue with noise but I was wrong. The pub was really busy and this didn’t impact on our sleep. 
Would recommend and will go back again.

Good traditional pub accommodation, big room overlooking village square, clean and the bed comfortable, bathroom adequate.
Menue looked like pubgrub, but when it was.delivered to the table, far exceeded any pubgrub I've had.  Steak and kidney pudding one of the best, plenty of tender kidney, a rare thing these days. Will revisit.

Lovely little pub on the High Street, clean friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The chef came out chatting to us and crazily enough knows wigan well! Lovely man! Very good quality home cooked food, highly recommended.

We stumbled upon here by chance after going for a long hike in the area. The pub was exactly what the doctor ordered on a cold, windy afternoon! Very warm and friendly welcome and excellent pub grub at really reasonable prices. The homemade garlic bread was especially good! We’d like to have stayed longer and sampled a couple more of the local ales but sadly had to drive back to our accommodation. We’ll definitely return when next in the area. The perfect friendly country pub!

Friendly staff from the moment I arrived until I checked out the next day. The lady taking breakfast orders was amazing. A spacious, comfortable room and bed and great breakfast. Unfortunately I didn't notice the garden out the back and had dinner elsewhere but wish I'd eaten here. Wifi was a bit ropey but perhaps we can blame BT for that (it wasn't great even by the router) but in fairness it was just about passable.

Warm welcome from people who take pride in their job! The food was wholesome and large portions. Plenty of good humour too - thanks to Caz for supporting my husbands healthy eating regime! 😂 Will go back for another visit for sure. Great place to stay for walkers!

We stayed one night as a stop on the way to Cornwall everything great nice room lovely staff good breakfast was a bit noisy around closing time but otherwise excellent and lovely village too would recommend for a stop or weekend

Staff pleasant, room spacious and clean. .Full English cooked  Breakfast excellent. Good location in heart of village. Parking available close by.  Friendly pub atmosphere with a lot of history. Good access to Dartmoor.

We had a wonderful couple of days in Dartmoor. Really friendly staff, spotless rooms and very comfortable beds and a delicious breakfast. It was great for our group - two rooms of three. We would love to stay again.

Great pub food and ale with a proper pub atmosphere.

Good little pub in the heart of a beautiful Dartmoor village

Lovely and friendly pub!

Unassuming from the outside but a great place

Visited from another part of Tier 2 just after Christmas as a present. No dedicated parking but ample parking around the village or in the public car park. Proper old pub with a long history. Covid restrictions observed. Now if you were looking for things to complain about you could find them. Most of this would be due to Covid issues and/or government decisions. (Mind you it was the loudest shower I have ever been in)! Room lovely and warm. Staff very friendly and conversational, especially Kaz who did all the cooking during our stay. The menu was limited but the food was excellent good pub food. The resident dog, Willow, was well behaved if sadly a little unwell. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and would happily visit again.

Last minute booking, so was pleased to find a room in this nice little Dartmoor town.

The room was clean & comfortable. Nice view of the square, but was very noisy first thing in the morning when the deliveries for the next door supermarket started to come in.

Staff very friendly and welcoming.

Breakfast was good - but sausages could have been a bit more meaty!

Good value Inn to visit this lovely little town.

Good points:  lovely staff, good breakfast, nice spacious room. Gorgeous black Labrador kept the customers amused during breakfast.

Downside:  both mornings was woken at 6 by delivery vans unloading right under our bedroom window and the shower was rather poor.  Also some nets at the window would be good for privacy in the morning.

Holiday 

This is a lovely inn right on the square in the centre of Chagford. The breakfast and restaurant/bar food is great-wholesome, very tasty and filling, entirely appropriate for Dartmoor. Our room was one of the smaller ones but was plenty big enough for us and our dog. We spend most of our time walking and in the pubs anyway! Fran, the owner, is so friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend this inn.

Amazing 🤩

Fine for a short stopover.  Old Pub in the Market Square. Some street noise late evening and some early deliveries at local businesses. Excellent breakfast served by friendly staff.  Good evening crowd inPub
