Lydgate House Hotel

We were looking for a "dog friendly hotel" and after some false starts found the Lydgate House Hotel Cottage which was ideal for my Wife and I plus our dog to have a quiet Christmas away from the hustle and bustle of a whole family Christmas at our house. The Cottage has more accommodation than we required, but the options made available to us: 1. Self Cater entirely 2. Eat all meals, other than lunch, at the Hotel 3. A Mix of both to suit us 4. Or as a twist to 3 above, a mix of self cater and hotel would deliver our choice from the day's menu as required – we opted for this one and all meals were delivered piping hot, sealed the deal. I had ordered the Wine ahead from Hotel Wine List and given the price point from the Wine List I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality, all very enjoyably drinkable. The hotel is very tastefully decorated and the ambience is excellent, perhaps not surprising given John' past experience in restorations. Sarah's cooking is simply wonderful, everything we ate from the Hotel Menu, including Christmas Lunch was beautifully cooked without exception. Kelly's attention to us, ensuring we had everything we needed and her readiness to respond to any requests was above and beyond and really appreciated. Sarah, John and Kelly make an excellent team that give an experience that is genuinely personal without being obtrusive, possibly reminiscent of what one might imagine a Country House weekend party to be, as based on novels and films. Could not fault the Hotel or staff in exceptional personalservice. Even with Dartmoor in Winter we truly enjoyed our stay and will certainly look at visiting when the weather is better.
