Good location in the centre of Oakham the whole team at The Hornblower were friendly and attentive throughout our stay nice quiet room in the annex and a good breakfast cooked to order we also ate in the evening also very good , no hesitation in recommending this as a great place to stay when visiting Rutland, we will go back

Another great stay in the Hornblower, staff and management are very good, stayed many times and cant fault the place and right in the centre of Oakham, with anything you need only a short walk away, food always of a high standard and breakfast will set you up nice for the day.

Enjoyed a two night stay with family and highly recommend. As per other reviews the staff make it. Great service and helpful even when we were locked out of our room! Lovely breakfast included. Good location despite carpark- tip- ask for the separate postcode! Tip- kitchen closed mid afternoon. Beer garden nice and relaxing

Decided to stop at the Hornblower for a couple of nights on way back from Devon as we had stopped in for a drink on a previous visit. So pleased we did. The room we had, number 1, was great. The food, both breakfast and dinner was exceptional and the overall ambiance of the place we felt was great.

What made the experience truly lovely though were the staff. Everyone we met were incredibly friendly but in a very natural way. All were very attentive and made you feel quite special.

Great place, great people.

Stayed over the bank holiday weekend with my partner, the room and pub it self very clean and tidy. The staff were fantastic and very helpful in giving us pointers what to do in the area. Car park is a little tricky as its only small but again staff very accommodating to try and get us squeezed in. Breakfast in the morning was first class. Will definitely stay again when we are back in the area. 

Had a really great breakfast at the Admiral Hornblower after spending the night elsewhere in Oakham. Despite our group having multiple food allergies we received super and friendly service and delicious food. Next we shall book rooms too.

Called in for late breakfast on recommendation of local coffee shop and were not disappointed. Pleasant table near window and were served 4 hot meals fairly promptly. Excellent cooking and top up coffee made it a perfect start to our second day in Rutland. Will call again next year.

This is the third time we have stayed at The Admiral Hornblower, so my thoughts / comments on rooms, breakfast, dinner etc are already out there on the site somewhere.

I just wanted to give a huge Thank You to all the staff for their kindness and understanding on our most recent visit.

It was one of those trips that you really don't want to make, an eleventh hour call to come down because a family member is failing fast.  I rang the Admiral Hornblower direct, explained our situation and they were able to fit us in at very short notice, accommodating my husband and myself and our daughter and her very young baby.

Thoughtfully, they managed to accommodate us in rooms in the block to the rear of the hotel, so that if we were coming in really late or needed to go out in the middle of the night, we could do so without having to exit the main building, setting off any alarms.  They found a large room on the ground floor for our daughter and granddaughter, allowing for easy access with the pram and all the paraphernalia that babies demand. 

The member of staff I spoke to when booking also offered to give me his mobile number, should we need anything in the night, saying that he didn't live far away and would happily come back.

This is a predominantly young team and they just showed such empathy and maturity in the way in which they behaved towards us, discreet and very much in the background, but with the overall feeling that we could have called upon them for anything.

Sadly, on this occasion, our family member did not pull through and so our long association with Oakham will soon end, but I would highly recommend the wonderful environment at The Admiral Hornblower.

Stayed for one night in Oakham at this cosy pub - combines old world charm with modern comforts.  Our room (No. 4) was very comfortable and immaculately clean.  Very friendly welcome and good service from all staff.  Particular shout out to Charlotte.  We chose to have a meal there too, which was superb - highly recommend.   A good choice of breakfasts, beyond your run of the mill, cooked fresh to order.

Great stay

Fancied a stay near Rutland Water before walking the circumference and settled on the Hornblower. A really nice place bang in the heart of Oakham with great links to the surrounding area. 
The room was really comfortable and the bed tremendous. The pub offers a lovely choice of food and we didn't need to venture too far from the place in order to be well served for our stay. 
Thoroughly recommended.

Very friendly and helpful staff made sure that our stay was excellent. Exceptional breakfast with top quality fresh components including delightful little wrapped pats of local butter. 
 Good car park at the back of the hotel. 
Hospitality tray with Highland Spring water, variety of Twinings tea bags etc and plenty of milk capsules.
