The Sun Inn Penrith

Me and my partner stayed for 2 nights over the easter weekend. We thought the location was fantastic, the room was impeccable and the staff were so accommodating, friendly and pleasant. I would highly recommend anyone to visit this awesome Inn.

Visited for lunch on Mothering Sunday.  We received a very warm welcome and were quickly served drinks and shown to our table.
We had pre-ordered our food and the starters were served quickly.  Mains and desserts followed with great timing, neither rushed or too long a wait.  All the food was well presented, tasty and hot.
I would not hesitate to return or recommend to others.

The food served by the pub was fantastic and reasonably priced. We attended pie night which only had pies on the menu, but there was plenty of options and we were advised of this at the point of booking.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we will definitely return again for either the normal menu or a theme night

We had the new menu on Saturday evening, with friends. I highly recommend this outstanding food establishment.

We had the sizzling been and the sizzling chicken, it was delicious, better than some great Chinese I have been too. 

We will be attending all week while staying.

The place is a Hidden Gem lovely clean room friendly atmosphere nice staff and The Food was fab. Stayed two nights the breakfasts were amazing the chef even had time to pop out and check everything was to our satisfaction value for money we will definately be back  

Went for Sunday lunch with parents, has three choices of meat and portion sizes. You can have 1, 2 or 3 courses. 
If you don't want Sunday lunch then there are other options you can choose.

The food was really tasty and fresh and a great choice of mains and desserts. Would highly recommend the Sunday dinners. 

Welcomed with a warm reception and choice of drinks at the bar before entering the restaurant area. The service throughout was on point and friendly. Really worth the money which was reasonable and not overly expensive. 

Restaurant area is catered for everyone including families and children. Really chilled energy and welcoming. 

Easily located with limited parking as it was a Sunday. 

Would highly recommend and promote to others to help support this local delight. 

Friendly staff, great food and lovely atmosphere!

Warm welcome from staff who are helpful and cater for all needs. Food was delicious and very good value for money! Portion sizes were brilliant.

All in all a lovely pub with great sense of community and friendly locals.

Lovely place staff really nice food lovely no complaints definitely going back very peaceful nothing too much trouble room was very nice and clean set in a really nice place plus not far from places ie Adrian’s wall only there for 2 nights but well worth it.

It's a bit off the beaten track but well worth the effort. 
We were staying for 2 nights on a pretty soggy weekend.
On arrival we got a genuinely warm welcome and it got better from then on 
The room was clean and comfortable and typical of the limitations of a pub dating back to the 17th century - including the creaky floorboards!
The evening meals were outstanding. Top quality produce cooked with respect and skill. Even as a resident we were lucky to get a table. The portions were very generous or to quote James Martin - 'that'd be a starter in Yorkshire'.
The beer was well kept and the prices for food and drinks was very competitive.
You really need to work up a good appetite if you intend to stay for a couple of days or more. After an excellent evening meal,  11 hours later it was time to face breakfast.  This was the same standard as the evening meals and enough to keep you going the whole day. If any of the produce came from a supermarket, I'd certainly like to go there. An indicator of quality was that a local family called in for Sunday breakfast.
The chef/owner deserves to be congratulated on his skills and also for running a real village pub.
We were really impressed.


A really excellent find, stayed here for two nights, the staff were very welcoming and the pub had a lovely local feel to it.
Our room was spotlessly clean and had everything needed for a short break.
We ate both nights in the restaurant and had breakfast, all our meals were excellent. 
I would recommend this pub for anyone wanting an excellent base for visiting bothUllswater and Penrith.

Quality food, with amazing service 😋 

Sunday Dinner 

We have just returned from a last minute break with friends to this little gem of a pub/guest house. 
Doesn't look much from the outside but as soon as you walk through the door you feel like part of the Sun Inn family. Angela checked us in very quickly and was so friendly. Rooms where nice and spacious with everything you could want. Tea/coffee, water, biscuits, toiletries etc. 
We went down to tge bar after unpacking and the staff couldn't do enough for you. It was very busy as there was a darts tournament on. But certainly didn't alter the excellent service. 
We ate in the restaurant and the meal was superb. 
Breakfast was cooked by Ken and this was yer another superb meal. 
All in all Lucy & her staff do an amazing job. 
Well we return......OMG can't wait. 
Thanks for making our weekend very enjoyable. Look forward to seeing you soon. 

Fab little gem

They've got it right! Excellent food, beer and staff.

Excellent country pub. 

Just had 3 very enjoyable nights at this inn. The staff were most helpful with nothing being too much trouble, and the food ....The food was superb. We had 3 evening meals, finishing with the sunday lunch menu. (They do Sunday lunch all day on a Sunday) The roast beef was lovely, beautifully cooked and the yorkshires were spot on.

Creaky bedroom floors - quaint or slightly embarrassing in the night!

Most enjoyable stay

Stayed here for a weekend break and have been really impressed with the pub. It’s such a lovely place to visit. The staff are super friendly, the locals are lovely and chatty, the food is amazing- really good Sunday dinners, lasagne and pie. The room was lovely, bed comfortable and an excellent location to explore the Lake District. Everything really reasonably priced too, feel like we stumbled on a bit of a gem and couldn’t recommend it more!

Hidden gem- you won’t regret booking here!

This is an outstanding place to visit.  We went for a meal on a Monday night which was one of the best I have ever had.  The food and the atmosphere was so good we decided to stay there on the Wednesday of the same week and this was also outstanding.  The staff and locals greet you with a warm welcome and "Chippy Tea Wednesday" is a must do.  I cannot recommend this pub highly enough and if you are in the area make a point of calling in. 5* rating is not high enough for this place.
