I can only think this pub has changed hands since the awful reviews below. We  visited on a Sunday lunchtime we hadn’t booked and had a lovely roast. The barman or landlord that greeted us was so friendly. The staff couldn’t do enough to help. The atmosphere was great everyone dining seemed very happy. The food was good we had roast beef and a lovely sticky toffee pudding to share and it was massive. The wine was good and we felt it was all reasonable for either an individual meal or sharing platter. We will
definitely be back when in the area.

Attended "Supper Club" on Friday night which according to the posters is monthly on the 3rd Friday.  This was first one I've been to. Food was great. Nice and tasty and very good value for 3 courses. There was also entertainment booked, a local band, for the night. Great night. Band was entertaining, food was good and the atmosphere was good fun. Even the barman got to sing a song!
Booked for the next supper club already and highly recommend.

Really friendly landlord.  Tea was really good, the waitress was nice and helpful. Room was clean and presentable.  Pub side had been done out nicely m.  Would definitely go again.  Thank you for a nice stay.  

Great pub, family friendly and food available should you require. Entertainment such as pool, juke box and darts available. Been going here years as it's my local. Always a plus when friendly dogs are allowed 😊🐶 

We stopped here for lunch while doing a circular walk from March to Wimblington and back. The mother of the owner came over to chat with us and was very friendly. She said her son had recently taken over the place (he came and chatted with us, too) and they are making changes. We both had sandwiches with chips and they were very good. Menu has a lot of different items to choose from. Would certainly go back there if we were in the area again.

The anchor 

A pub with great potential. The new management ( since December 2015) clearly have work in progress  to create a cosy and comfortable village pub.  The staff were very welcoming and we were made to feel at home.

We visited for Sunday lunch and we noticed that we were the only diners - slightly concerning. Whilst there was a Sunday roast advertised which together with a comprehensive menu, provided for alternative choices. My companions opted for the "light bite" fish and chips. whilst I selected the meat pie.  The fish was deemed a great disappointment by both friends; my meat pie was, on the other hand, good.  We all had sweets which were also good, so just about value for money. overall.

The management are trying hard but clearly have some way yet to go to up their game.

Under new management now and a great improvement on the food always has what's on the menu and is well cooked.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Yes it still needs a bit more decorating done but they are getting there .
Overall its well worth a visit.

The Anchor

Only two others dining and four other  bar customers despite it being Saturday night should have sounded warning bells with us . We ordered a round of drinks for the five of us and were shown to one of the manyempty tables in the dining area . The solitary bar person was very friendly. She took our order and even repeated it back to us to ensure its  correctness. She said the other two customers would be served first. However it was more than apparent we did not need to have pre booked anticipating table for  this much anticipated group night out to a local and independent Hostelry. I stress at this point that I would far rather write a positive 5 star review as I did on Google when visiting The Anchor last year and being warmly welcomed by John a close friend of Paul the owner and Chef. However this Saturday night out sadly soon soured. About 15 minutes after our orders were taken to the adjacent kitchen area the apologetic Bar person said she was reluctantly passing on the message that there are no mash potatoes available , just boiled or chips . Those in our group it affected changed their order to accommodate this surprising shortage of basic staples . Order re taken . About 15 minutes later a man dressed in chefs whites appeared and sat at our table . Not an everyday occurrence to say the least but it got our attention. He said he had some good news …. Two of our main courses were chicken curry and beef madras. The good news.. he said was the chicken curry was available . The beef madras wasn’t ! I politely asked him his name as he had not introduced himself  and he told me he was Paul the owner . I politely said that this was the second time in the last hour we were being forced to change our order and would have thought that we should have been informed prior to ordering if any food was unavailable. He curtly replied “ do you think I want to be making mash at this time of night !”  He also said they had been unusually busy with non booked tables hence the issue with the non available beef curry . At no point in the conversation did he apologise in any way. He actually with a sideways look and gesture at the female bartender said she should have known and not taken your orders ! He then added if you don’t like it why don’t you go somewhere else ! Wow ! this is the owner of a local pub welcoming new business. I said we understood these things happen and jokingly said that I guess he might make some goodwill gesture for the delay and shortages such as a drink on the house . I also told him how we were welcomed last year by his close friend and I believe employee John in an effort to diffuse his very blunt passive aggressive attitude . In response he kept repeating do you want to cancel the order and go elsewhere and no such goodwill gesture would be forthcoming. I said we did not want to cancel we had hoped to use his pub and restaurant regularly as our friend has now moved nearby. Despite our polite acceptance of the situation he still kept repeating “ are you going to go somewhere else and shall I cancel the orders “  he gave us no time to consider or change my order of  the unavailable beef curry.!  In my many years on this planet I have never met such a hostile , rude, arrogant passive aggressive Publican/ Chef . He clearly did not want to serve or placate us in any way . It became abundantly clear that we really could not stay and trust this person to cook good for us. At no point were we rude or anything other than accepting of the situation. He left us no option so we cancelled our food order . He skulked off back to the kitchen, leaving the perplexed bar person to apologise on his behalf , she clearly was shaken up by his manner and also his blaming her for taking orders for unavailable items. She said she was totally unaware of any unavailable items at the time of our ordering. I despair, Sadly as we all know our hospitality industry is in troubled times . Independents are closing daily. We intended to spend a considerable amount of money on both food and drink in The Anchor. We came pre booked anticipating a welcoming pub , as before with John. Nothing could be further from the reality of last nights debacle, totally and deliberately orchestrated by Paul the owner . No wonder the place was virtually empty. I do however hope he was just having a bad day and whist totally truthful and accurate this reluctant negative review might be a one off and maybe serve as the catalyst to Paul rethinking his approach to both current and potential future customers. We came via taxi to spend money . We were left with no choice but to leave and continue our night back in March town . Where we were served fresh hot food, drinks and welcomed too! Big shout out to all at The Griffin.

Such passive aggressive rudeness from the owner Paul . Sadly but understandably The Anchor virtually empty!

You try and choose local venue's to support local businesses but never again here.
The table was tacky and not cleaned and the toilet had mould on the wall.

To be fair the younger barman tried to be helpful but lacked training.
The food was adequate at best and being told "no they didn't have any sauce at all" for the food was bizarre and nor believable, just an excuse not to help.

The loud guy, assume he was the Landlord was just rude and just seemed to want to play court with a couple.
Every one of our group sad he was one of the most unpleasant people encountered and should never work in this environment.

When we came to pay there was a real reluctance to give us our change, like we were expected to tip, directly after the so called landlord saying very loudly that he doesn't like people sitting around in the restaurant after their meals when the coffee had only just arrived. 

Spend your money elsewhere

What an Attitude.

We were staying in the area and went into the Anchor Inn for some food. The only good thing we can say is the pub has been renovated and was nice inside. We arrived at 19:05 on a Saturday evening, the barman was sitting drinking with others and there was two people dining in the restaurant. We asked if they were doing food which the barman said he wasn't sure and would have to ask the kitchen as they were closing! We got our drinks and sat down, the barman then came over 5 mins later and said if you want food order it now but your going to have to be quick....This is the point were we should have left however there wasn't anywhere in walking distance that we knew of. The food arrived and it was ok nothing special. The guy serving us didn't talk and the barman was rude and obnoxious.
