The stay was fantastic. We have received continuous and warm attention and great services. Our room was garden facing with a beautiful, tranquil look. The room was clean and spacious. Everyone was friendly. Really nice neighborhood as well. Good food, good walks. Great time! 

A beautiful, peaceful place to stay

This is a place I have visited many times and it gives and gives. It’s homely without being intrusive. The staff are truly caring. The food is fresh, innovative and absolutely delicious. Go and stay! 

An unusual, wonderful place to stay

Booked into Claridge House Retreat Centre for one week's full board including two courses based on MIndfulness Meditation. Both course facilitators/tutors were excellent in all respects. 
The Claridge House team offered a warm, friendly welcome and went the extra mile in making our stay calm, peaceful and enjoyable. 
We were served delicious vegetarian food with dairy free and gluten free options. The accommodation was comfortable, airy, attractive and spotlessly clean. 
Claridge House is a lovely Victorian building set in two acres of beautiful grounds with many large, mature trees reflecting the calming ambience of the house.

A peaceful retreat in a tranquil rural setting

Lovely peaceful accommodation, stayed in the Courtyard rooms which were very comfortable with a double & a single room with kitchenette, accessible bathroom & its own front door access from the outside. Good continental breakfast served to the room. Excellent information booklet in the room.

Above Expectations

Easy to locate with google maps GPS - free parking 
Very well kept gardens to walk and sit down in to feel calm next to nature 
Vegetarian food and I asked for seconds of homemade soup as it was great
Friendly staff with a caring relaxed and happy approach

No TV but wifi worked well for me with a laptop 
complimentary fruit  - fresh towels - comfy bed 
village nearby 5 minutes with a mini Tesco & extra food options 
Close to motorways also 30 miles to Brighton 
Meals were served outside in the sunny weather for a small number of visitors

Peaceful Country Retreat with the sound of nature

An excellent place to stay. A lovely Victorian house in a peaceful setting with large and comfortable rooms which are immaculately clean. An atmosphere of quiet unobtrusive Quakerism which is very refreshing. Friendly, helpful staff and really wonderful tasty home cooked vegetarian food. I can't recommend highly enough. If I could give more stars I would.

Lovely Place!

A good location. Too frugal for me. No luxury here. Limited food choice. Bedding not great. Just felt very dull here and certainly over priced.  My very reasonable complaints fell on deaf ears until I got cross.  Real lack of communication skills.

A strange mix

Travelled down from Norfolk after Booking with Hotel earlier in week giving Card details and confirmation . To find travelling down on the Friday that my Accommodation was in doubt due to card payment declined & room was not guaranteed . Tried several times to ring Hotel at 7 pm to no avail even member of family tried no answer . Had no other option but to go back home on a freezing night in the middle of no where to try and sort as Booking.com advised me to ring Hotel to confirm if there was a room . Just no one could help very dissatisfied  with Hotel in there communication of no one answering phones . Lovely Area Dormansland but Hotel lets it down in my mind now 

Let Down on Communication

We spent an overnight here having arrived at Gatwick airport in the early evening.  We had already confirmed that someone would be present to meet us as we were not sure of our exact arrival time, and the accommodation was clearly signposted from the main road.

Claridge House is an old typical Victorian house, and you can feel its heritage immediately on entering.  There is a quiet room, a lounge and a delightful breakfast room.  You feel a bit that you have stepped back in time to when life was quieter and the definition of 'stress' would be much less that what we often experience.  And although we didn't have time to explore, the gardens are beautiful and calming.

The house is used as a retreat centre and is run by Quakers (The Society of Friends).   Rooms can be offered on a B&B basis when there is no block booking, but if you want TV in your room, bacon and sausage with your breakfast, a bar and are a smoker (of any type of 'smoking apparatus' ), this is NOT the place for you.  

The guesthouse is a non-smoking, vegetarian and respectful place.  The welcome is warm, and Rosemarie who was on duty when we arrived could not do enough for us.  She was delightful, friendly and informative.   

Our bedroom was en-suite, and although she was concerned that we might find the bed a bit hard, we found it very comfortable and slept soundly.   The bathroom had a shower, but there was a shared bathroom available for those who might want a soak in the tub!  Everything was spotlessly clean, and it was a delight to find a choice of teas and fresh flowers in our room.

Although the hotel is under the flight path for Gatwick airport (as so many hotels locally are!) we did not hear any noise and slept well.  There was plenty of parking next to the house and movement-sensors made it easy to find our way as the area was well floodlit.

Breakfast the next morning was generous - large choice of cereals (including gluten-free), fresh fruit salad, yogurt, toast (with different types of bread) and juices.  We were offered eggs (poached or scrambled) and were delightfully surprised by being offered a tomato and avocado salad with them.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, and felt in better spirits on leaving than when we had arrived.   Thank you all so much.

Peace and quiet, with delightful staff

I’ve just returned from a solo ‘diy’ retreat and had a really good experience. All of the staff are so kind and welcoming, it’s a very gentle, compassionate environment and you really feel it’s a space held with love. The food is fantastic (I recommend going when they have full board as lunch and dinner are great) and they cater really well for all types of preferences re gluten/sugar/dairy! I had a spacious room looking out onto the beautiful gardens. The only slight issue for me was a harder mattress than I like so not the most comfortable sleep.
