The Nags Head

Late arrival and early out but was still welcomed by Alice the owner.  Breakfast was offered and even provided at an earlier time than normally given, for which I was very grateful.  A great cooked breakfast kicked off my morning and soon I was on my way. This was a perfect location to break up a long North to South journey.  Very pleasant indeed.  Sad that I missed out on what looked like a super Chinese dining experience for an evening meal!  And just a few mins of the A1M

Very nice lady who looked after us very well, lovely pub , room was good apart from being to hot for my liking luckily two huge windows we could open for some cool air , bed was huge and comfortable, shower was ace , breakfast was great , only small gripe I would have is the pub only stays open to 10pm

Excellent stay. Very kind, friendly and courteous owner.The menu for evening food was first class and the food absolutely delicious. Cosy and clean rooms. Peaceful and quiet location too.

Friendly staff...excellent parking facilities, plenty of room for parking. Easy to find..excellent chinese restaurant on site...nothing too much trouble. I would return.

A great stopover location!

Comfortable one night stay

Lovely staff and such a warm greeting from Alice. Great place even if a little different, local pub to one side and a Cantonese restaurant on the other. The food was exeptional and the room spacious and well equipped. All in all just a very pleasant experience, you really do leave thinking you have made new friends. I will be staying again.

Lovely place to stay

We had an excellent stay at the Nags Head. Located on the edge of the Moors, Pickhill is a beautiful quiet village with excellent walks straight from the car park. Alice and her team were so friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and comfortable. Our evening meal (chinese food) was excellent as was the English breakfast. The locals in the bar were friendly which gave the place a great atmosphere. We will definately be back and highly recommend.

On arrival was met by Alice, a bubbly character, full of energy and a welcoming smile. Took me to my room which was lovely and clean. Ate in the restaurant food was excellent. Staff very attentive. Food reasonably priced. Restaurant got busy very quickly a testament to the standard and care of all the staff. Now on my list of places to stay when in North Yorkshire.

A happy smiling welcome

I stayed in the family room which was large and spacious. Very clean with good size en-suite. Alice was so helpful and friendly. She takes the trouble to remember all guests by their first names. Free parking behind hotel. Peaceful, comfortable and would definitely stay here again. Cooked English breakfast was delicious!

Good value, clean and welcoming

The family room was  generous .  It was clean.The staff were friendly and helpful.The food served is  Cantonese and was delicious.The pub area was separate to the restaurant area, which made it relaxing and enjoyable.  The pub area is friendly and not rowdy.I would definitely recommend this accommodation.

Great size family room in friendly surroundings

I have stayed here before, pre covid, food is good, rooms are clean but the back of the bathroom taps could have done with a good seeing to!! My only complaint was that breakfast is served from 8-10am, which was too late for me, so they said it wasn't a problem and then could do the 7.30am that I needed. Got down ready for breakfast, not a soul about, finally left at 7.45am to get breakfast elsewhere. Got a text at 8am to say they were running late. I wouldn't have minded if they'd said the night before that it was too early, I'd have planned my morning around getting breakfast elsewhere, but to be told it was ok, and then for no one to turn up! It's ok if you're travelling for pleasure but I was working and needed things to run smoothly.

Good pub with good Chinese food.

We stayed for a visit to the races. The room was clean and spacious. The place is well outside Thirsk but was perfect for us as I was driving. We ate at the Cantonese restaurant on site and the food was amazing. Alice and her team gave us the warmest of welcomes and could do enough. If there was a slight down side, the was a quite a lot of noise from above in the morning from general movement. It wasn't an issue for me but lighter sleepers may be an issue. But next time we're in Thirsk, we'll be coming back.

When we arrived at the hotel we were not sure if we were going to like it. The actual pub was more like a takeaway but we sat at a table next to the open fire. My husband was in his element keeping the fire going. We later had a meal in the restaurant. Wow, the food was excellent and great service especially Alice, she is a superb host and can’t do enough for you. Had a great nights sleep in a really comfy bed. The cooked breakfast was perfect and again Alice was on hand to make sure we had everything we wanted. Really enjoyed our stay.
