Laburnum House

A beautiful tea room serving excellent quality food and great tea.  I have to say the ham and cheese sandwich wax the best I have ever had.  I would highly recommend this place.  My wife who is coeliac had no problem having her sandwiches served on gluten free bread.  Her free range egg sandwich was beautifully presented.  We will be back! 

Our recent visit was amazing. Stuart and Mark made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Their friendly approachable attitude has certainly enticed us back in the very near future. The breakfasts were amazing and they were very accommodating meting our individual needs. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable. The tea rooms were immaculate with amazing home made cakes made in house by Mark.  We would certainly recommend Laburnum House.

I called in here when I visited Hawes for tea and cake. Both were delicious. Dog friendly for well behaved dogs on a lead. My dog was given water and treats and perhaps a little bit of delicious cake from me! I used the facilites and commented to the proprietors, on what a lovely place they have. They get very busy which says it all. Highly recommended.

A lovely spot for a locally sourced lunch. We had soup and a sandwich, both were lovely and fresh. The chef was passionate about the local produce explaining about the story of the cheese and the jam. The chap who served us was lovely, everyone was friendly to us and our three little Dachshunds. Also one of the only spots still serving lunch after 2pm!! Highly recommend!!

Just had lunch....what a lovely place very friendly....had soup and a sandwich all was fresh very hot and delicious...had coffee arrived in a cafitiere with warm milk....very friendly owners would highly recommend...even got water and tests for the dogs...thanks.

This is our second visit for coffee/cakes at Laburnum House in Hawes.  Two words "outstanding" and "immaculate"- quality of the service, food, location.  I ordered the home made mushroom soup - it was the best I've ever tasted. My husband had the homemade marble cake which he really enjoyed too. You made us feel very welcome (and our dog too). Thank you so much - we would highly recommend a visit.

First thing you notice is how clean the cafe is and the staff are so friendly. We had lunch and it was very tasty  and good value. I would highly recommend anyone who goes to Hawes to find it you will not be disappointed 


Came here for a pit stop during a bike ride. Very welcoming, couldn't do enough for us. Space for bikes, and even offered to refill our bottles.
Great food, cakes and proper tea. Brilliant service. Will definitely come back.

We popped in for a break from doing and we both love the atmosphere of Hawes. Wonderful service and food 
One to remember when we pass through in 2023, you must have their scones and jam all local produce 

Called in this afternoon for a cream tea. Simply perfect, beautiful warm scone, homemade jam, butter from the Wensleydale Creamery which inspired me to buy some, clotted cream and a beautiful cup of Yorkshire tea. The place was spotless too! Would definitely recommend. Friendly staff too, despite them being busy.

"Outstanding" and "Immaculate"

Cream Tea

Booked in for Afternoon Tea on a Saturday Afternoon and was not disappointed. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owners and guided to our table. Tea and coffee soon followed and this was unlimited. Proper tea from Yorkshire naturally. We were blown away when the afternoon tea came out . Freshly made sandwiches, Warm scones with clotted cream and jam, pork pies, warm sausage rolls  and a wonderful selection of puddings and sweet treats. What was nice to hear was the back story behind each item. Bread baked locally , Cakes made locally or baked inhouse, home baked scones. Cheese from the locally creamery ( wensleydale of course). It was a very well thought out menu supporting local producers and the wider Yorkshire area. It was nice to see as we had travelled from outside the county. We liked it so much we booked in there and then for a weekend stay. I would thoroughly recommend this experience and it was very reasonably priced too. Make sure you book afternoon tea in advance so that everything is ready for you on arrival. Enjoy

Fantastic Afternoon Tea

Popped in (well, sat outside), for lunch on spec in June. Sun was shining and we were lucky that one of the three small outside tables just came available.

We were greeted with a smile and the table was cleaned from the last guest very quickly so we were seated pretty much straight away.

We did have to nip inside to get a menu but that didn't detract at all.

Grub was ordered and was delivered to the table in a very reasonable timescale.

I had a ham sandwich with mustard followed by a slice of fruitcake with Wensleydale cheese (yep, that's correct, a local delicacy apparently). The ham, cake and cheese were locally sourced, as was the bread for the sandwich.

All extremely tasty indeed.

If you are in the area, do pop in. You are unlikely to be disappointed. Apparently B&B is also available but we didn't stay there so can't comment - no doubt it's equally as good!

Just popped in for a coffee and cake, all I can say is “superb”
Wonderful owners, great local food! A little gem not to be missed!
We where only there for about 3/4 hour, but it left an impression, if we are back in Hawes I would want to stay, if the hospitality is anything to go by, a nights stay with breakfast would be wonderful!

Just lovely!

We last visited here a few years ago and we were blown away by the friendly welcome of the new owners. The vegetable soup was delicious and the cheese scone just melted in the mouth. How lovely to be offered a pot of hot water along with our tea without even asking. The homemade cakes are also lovely and how great to get given a list of the local produce that is used.  The toilet was spotless! We will definitely be recommending to people and will be revisiting when we’re next in the Dales.
