Loved our stay at The Anchor apartment. Host (and locals) very friendly and welcoming. Can't fault The Anchor for that well earned break away!

It was a beautiful space, with a lot of extra touches-they left lights on and heating do when we checked in it was warm and welcoming. They had everything you could think of and a nice sized kitchen. We thought it might be noisy but the accommodation is actually over the road from the pub and has stunning views! Lots of local beautiful walks. Food was amazing in the anchor hotel-we had a family meal of 15 and the service was amazing and the meal was one of the best I’ve had!

Stayed one night.  Room we had was small but for one night was ok, the room was clean but bathroom could do with an upgrade. No soundproofing, could hear everything through the wall. Breakfast was an extra £12.50 each was a fine breakfast.  We had dinner in the restaurant, lots of choices, great fish and seafoods selection and what we had was lovely. Staff are all friendly and welcoming. We had great service.

Anchor hotel

We spotted the village from the road above, fishing village down a steep road, cobblestones and cottages.  Gorgeous 300 year old pub on the harbour, great atmosphere, comfy bed and room, breakfast the next day was fresh and plentiful  and offered with love and care.  Really enjoyed it, 20 steos from the harbour so pretty to walk around.

My husband and I love to visit The Anchor for a meal. We decided to book an overnight stay for my birthday and wasn’t disappointed. We were greeted with a very friendly and warm welcome and shown to our room. The room was small but lovely. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. Our meal was delicious and service was excellent. We opted for breakfast and it too, was delicious. Plenty on offer and the lady that served us was lovely and friendly. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to everyone.

Excellent service

It is such a lovely location with very friendly staff and such good food. Sea walks, harbour seats, Hidden Treasure take away coffee and cakes, Lobster Rolls and all sorts of things…wonderful! A bonus was a visit from Prince Charles to the Lobster Shop and the Johnshaven businesses. Those children will remember the day I bet!

The Anchor Hotel next to the harbour. Memorable.

This is a hidden gem of a place, a little loath to share just how fantastic this place is! The accommodation was everything we needed for an overnight stay but would service well for a weeks stay. Quaintly located in the quietest spot at the top of a lane. Kitchen well stocked with essentials including a washing machine. Delightful view over the harbour when you open the bedroom curtains made my morning so much brighter. We booked this overnight accommodation so we could both enjoy a glass or three of wine with dinner at the adjacent restaurant. A little indulgent but SO worth while. The dinner was absolutely fabulous, steak, prawns and scallops all cooked to perfection the accompanying sauté potato stack made my mouth water. The staff were all super friendly and gave us a very warm welcome. All in all, I highly recommend The Anchor for both food, great atmosphere and accommodation. We will certainly be back.

Oh Ship! Never want to float away from this Anchor

We stayed in a lovely self-catering cottage which was immaculate, really cosy and had a superbly comfortable bed. The kitchen was fully equipped and had everything we needed. The wetroom was spotless and filled with lots of fluffy towels.  It felt like a little home from home. We would have no hesitations booking here again if we needed to stay in the area.

I booked this inn because I couldn’t find anything else in the area with a room for 3 available at moderate cost. It turned out to be a complete gem of a find- a quaint but well-kept property in an historic fishing village where we walked, took pics, talked to the locals out dog walking, picked up sea glass at low tide, and had a fantastic meal downstairs in the wonderful restaurant/pub. Altogether a memorable stay- wish we could have spent a week!Of course the rooms are small and there’s no elevator -a winding staircase- but this is the real deal in the charm department. The staff was helpful and attentive. If you don’t have to have a 4-star chain hotel- and can appreciate authenticity and quality- then book it! You won’t be disappointed. PS- order the mussels- best ever!

Hidden gem

An awesome quiet fishing village, not for thrill seekers but so peaceful and friendly, an ideal place to rest and enjoy the scenary. Accomodation out of this world as is the local seafood, please dont go here as I wouldn't want to have trouble booking again!seriously, highly reccomended for the peace and scenary alone without that great breakfast

Over all great little fishing village with great accommodation at this venue. Stayed in one the cttages attached to the Anchor Inn, it was self contained, with a kitchen, lounge, bathroom, and very comfortable bedroom upstairs, the only problem with upstairs bedroom is the stairs, which some people might find to be to steep. Garry the owner is a very charming host and very good cook sorry chef, the meals are nice and of a good size. Overall experience , I would recommend it, staff are pleasant & very helpful.
