Howton Grove House

Wormbridge is in rural Herefordshire and surrounded by countryside. Howton Grove House B&B is just a great place to stay. I was picked up from Hereford Rail Station and dropped back at the end of my stay. On arrival I was made very welcome, The room was clean, comfy and warm. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was nice with everything you would need to eat. I had my fold up cycle with me and this was no problem. In short what a great place to stay.

Good location, very friendly hosts. Nothing too much trouble. Room spacious, large TV in room, breakfast delicious . Ideal for visiting Ross on Wye, Hereford, Abergavenny . Would recommend for anyone looking for a quiet break. House set in lovely grounds, off the main road.

Was warmly greeted by Carol when we arrived.  She told us about meaning of the extra wide front door (and staircase).  Crinoline Doors wide enough for ladies skirts.  Very comfortable stay - lovely linens on the beds and very nice towels. Excellent breakfast.  Would certainly stay again if in the neighborhood.

I stayed here last week for an early week break and was the sole guest. Owner Carol was very accommodating and helpful and the house has a lovely, peaceful vibe. It's traditional and is set in lovley grounds just back from the road. The Oak room in which I stayed was very, very big and the bathroom was huge as well. Breakfast was generous and eggs were fresh from the chickens roaming outside. Hereford - which is lovely - is only a 15-minute drive away and in the other direction is Abergavenny and beyond is the beautiful little town of Blanaevon which was an old mining and steel town but is now a Unesco world heritage site. It's a breathtaking drive across the mountains - and for a first for me in Wales, it didn't rain. Will definitely go back for some R&R.

House with the Crinoline Front Door

Lovely, traditional, peaceful B&B

Booked direct which was easy and hassle free.  Arrived and was met by Carol who was very welcoming and shown to room.  The bedroom and en-suite bathrooms are enormous and filled with lovely old furniture and fresh linen.
I'm not sure if it could be described as quirky or disorganised, but there is clutter everywhere - piles of linen, fridges, bath panels dominate most landings.  The breakfast room also had a pile of linen in the corner, topped off by a lampshade.  If you can look past these issues then you will have a very pleasant stay, but if like me you stay in hotels and guest houses regularly, then this may not be for you.  In my opinion, if you are opening your home to guests and charging a fairly high price for the stay then it should be as perfect as you can make it.  It was a shame that the grounds are also unkempt and overgrown - I'm sure they would look as lovely as the photo's if a little TLC was given to them.  Not sure that the mouse running across the breakfast room floor was a welcome addition either, but I guess it should be expected for an old farmhouse in the country.  Overall, a comfortable stay but overpriced.

We arrived at this property for check in at 4pm - we were a little early- so rang bell etc no reply- rang phone- answer machine (!) waited and waited then two cars came up driveway with other guests, who were staggered to find front door locked up when normally left unlocked. We waited until 5pm and still no reply on phone and no sittings if anyone. Concerned for safety ( owners not our own) as were other locked out guests we tried again to email and call. We gave up and booked elsewhere for our 3 day stay. Almost an hour and half later we received a call from owner to say she had been held up with roadworks and bad weather. When told we had found alternative accommodation discussion ensued re charges. Will never return. Happy she is ok but pretty disgusted that no message was forthcoming from her and she wanted to charge us. Sorry really not on. Always have a plan b.
