Stayed one night with our dog in the most amazing four poster room. Everything is spotlessly clean, the interiors are beautifully decorated and furnished with some wonderful antique pieces. Very comfortable stay, great breakfast and friendly accommodating service. Highly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic stay, the house is wonderful, the rooms are traditionally decorated and very spacious, facilities are incredibly clean as is the entire property. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Stayed here with my dog last weekend. Beautiful antique furniture, exquisite taste, delightful host who couldn't do enough for me (even, when I arrived late into the evening and frazzled from a long journey, I mentioned in conversation that I had a can of M&S G&T to help me wind down when I stopped - he came back 5 mins later with s surprise glass with ice & lemon, so thoughtful!), just perfect. Will definitely be back!

I can't recommend this place highly enough. Beautiful room with incredible antique furniture and period detail, extremely warm welcome, and a delicious breakfast (gluten-free on request). I don't usually sleep too well on the first night in a new place but I slept like a log here - I think it was the combination of a very comfy bed and a homely, welcoming atmosphere. One drawback for some might be the fact that there isn't an ensuite, but I still had my own (very nice) bathroom just across the hallway. The lack of an ensuite is more than compensated for by the price, and it allows the rooms to keep their historic character, so I think it's a good thing. Overall this place offers incredibly good value, and it's worth booking direct. I was just here on a stopover on my way from the Highlands, but I wish I'd had time to explore Ecclefechan and the surrounding area, which seem well worth a visit. Next time, hopefully - I'll certainly be back!

Fabulous in every way.  The B&B is ideal for those travelling north/south and wishing to have an overnight stay. It is just a few minutes away from the motorway, but also extremely quiet. All of our dealings with the owners were met with in good time and we were made to feel most welcome on arrival. We slept in the double room at the front of the house with a four-poster bed.  What a room - large and airy with a sofa and a comfy armchair. Lovely big cups for tea/coffee, fresh milk a very comfortable bed. We ate dinner at the Cresswell Hotel nearby - very friendly and good food. Breakfast was superb - homemade preserves, eggs from Craig and Alex's own chickens, delcious coffee, bacon and sausages.  I would definitley recommend this B&B and use again.

Excellent value and a great overnight stop on my way home to Devon, breakfast was the best.....wish I could have stayed longer 

As always a warm and friendly welcome. Best cooked breakfast you'll find in a B&B. Good location just off the M74 and a good place to break your journey from England into Scotland. Good centre to explore the area from and a visit to Thomas Carlyle's birthplace opposite the B&B is a must. Our 4th stay at Carlyle House and we will go back again.

What a lovely place to stay! The four poster was epic, and the whole building was beautifully decorated in keeping with the style and age of the property. My parents had the twin room next door which had an actual chaise longue! Our (well behaved) dogs were made welcome, even at the breakfast table; speaking of breakfast it was plentiful and good. Our host was helpful and very pleasant. Would definitely stay here again - and in fact would go out of my way to do so.

Lovely welcome & gracious, spacious bedroom.    We haven’t slept in a 4 poster for years & this one so, so comfortable.     
No en-suite as such - but so what - as there’s a perfectly adequate / effectively ‘private’ bathroom across the landing.   As for breakfast the following morning ...... absolutely delicious & such generous quantities with the “Full Scottish”.  It filled us up for another days drive.!!

Carlyle Ho. doesn’t pretend to be a hotel but without doubt this is the very best B&B we’ve ever stayed in.   As reviewers have already observed it’s also an ideal half-way house between southern England & the Highlands and is pooch-friendly.    Get in - if you can.
