We stayed at two b and b's during two visits to Edinburgh and there was no comparison: wish we'd stayed at Conifers both times. Dave was very pleasant, helpful and accommodating. The breakfasts were good for us (vegetarian and non) and the room was as well. The breakfast room was a very nice place to start the day. Conifers is located on a quiet street with several b and b's and it was an easy walk to the central town below the royal mile. There is a church at the corner with Leith that makes it easy to spot 'your' road on the way back home. This is actually the Leith/Edinburgh boundary. Also, from the centre, it is easy to find the Leith way by just spotting the tall white cranes by the major construction going on near the Playhouse and Lewis store. In the immediate neighbourhood we ate at a very good 2 floor Indian restaurant that specializes in both 'north and south' cuisine. There is a cozy sports bar minutes away opposite the church on the main drag and turning left (Leithside) there was a (dinner) club with live music on two floors...calm below, high-powered above. Staying at the Conifers with its low-key ambiance and helpful owners provided us with a nice start to our trip.
