Very nice little B&B. Very friendly and lovely owner who is very polite and helpful. The breakfasts we had were superb. We stayed in the room looking opposite the Cheshire Cheese pubs with nice views. Only slight complaint was the mattress. It may be a bit too firm for some people as we like very soft ones. Overall a lovely 2 night stay and ideally situated for the various walks in the area. Thank you Sue for a lovely stay.

Lovely little B&B

When booking this room, I was told there was no parking, so be advised.  There is a carpark next door run by the Peak Hotel, if you buy some drinks in there of a day then you'll get your parking charge back.
The room was well appointed, bed very comfortable, great views of the hills and the shower was good!
If you are looking for the entrance, the sign is hidden by the trees, but it's opposite the Ye Old Cheshire pub, and the entrance is around the back.
Location wise, it's perfect for walking to Mam Tor and onward.

Good room, good view

Had a great weekend away walking in the Peak District & exploring the pubs of Castleton. We stayed 2 nights at the Cheshire House. The owner was very hospitable & cooks the best breakfast! Great location in the heart of Castleton with plenty of local establishments open for refreshments! The rooms are small, but clean & well kept, equipped with all you really need. I found the bed quite uncomfortable & the shower didn't have much power. It is a nice B&B, I've given a low rating based on the price as I feel value for money is questionable. It might have been the weekend we stayed, but it was very expensive. There are so many places to stay in Castleton & most are part of the pubs, so for a quieter stay I would recommend Cheshire House.

Weekend Break

Despite other reviews (which we should have read before we booked) nothing has been done to change it! The cobwebs are unbelievable behind head boards on beds and behind bedside tables. The en suite in the front bedroom did not drain due to a large amount of hair and shampoo/shower gel build up. The curtains are cheap and very ill fitting especially in the lounge where they are at least 4 inches too short. The hot tub was hot on the first night and cold on the second. The water was definitely not clean in the hot tub it was disgusting. Hall carpet was dirty, house smelled of dogs and the couch was covered in dog hairs. Needed painting throughout. 
On the plus it is a fabulous village and the house is in a great location just needs a better cleaning team and a good re paint!

Poor standard of cleanliness

I would NOT recommend Cheshire House. I felt the online description on Booking.com was misleading as there were lots of comments on how good the breakfast was only to be told after booking that it was room only. Also the 4pm check in time and 10am check out is not something I have encountered at other establishments. As for the 'free on site parking' it doesn't exist! Even after telling the host that the free car park has a big £10 per night sign there was no apology. Castleton was a warm lovely town, the Cheshire House wasn't.

Don't Bother!!

For our 18th wedding anniversary i decided to book a couple of nights away as a surprise for my wife, 
After looking for half an hour on booking.com i found a little B&B in Castleton  that still had a room available so i booked it, 
This was when the trouble started, i was contacted the day before we were due to travel by the landlady informing me there would be no Breakfast available and giving us the option to cancel Obviously at such late notice i couldn't find any other available rooms so i decided to keep the booking, we had to park 30 meters away on the main road as there is no parking on site not a massive problem as it wasn't raining on arrival we were "greeted" by the landlady who was very mater of fact "here are your keys lock the front door on leaving and arriving" etc.. not "hello guys thanks for booking our room hope you enjoy your stay",? No we were taken up the stairs to our "box room" very small and dusty although the view was pleasant from the window but this was the only pleasant part of our stay i have also noticed a few of the bad feedbacks have been commented on by the landlady blaming the guests for bad feedback after our stay i wouldn't take her comments into account ,
After a meal out in castleton and a couple of bottles of champagne with another couple we had met earlier in the evening, we retired back to the room i am so pleased i had consumed an amount of champagne because the bed was so hard and unforgiving i doubt i would have managed a night's sleep, the following day we spent wandering around the village etc had an evening meal and this time without alcohol "a big mistake" !  i couldn't sleep at all, it was so uncomfortably hard on the bed,  we packed up at       9am and left, the landlady didn't ask us anything about our stay or thank us for our custom,
As you can probably gather we were far from impressed with our stay, another bad point is you can only access your room after 4pm and have to leave before 10am i must say not a pleasant stay we will not be staying here again i think she should reconsider being in the hospitality business !!
