We actually visited this restaurant in May 2021 and was extremely happy with the food and service, especially as things was still up in the air with Covid. We decided we would have lunch again at this restaurant, as we was close by and due to the fact we was impressed with our visit in May 2021.Well what can I say,keep up the good work, the food was still top notch, we both had fish and chips, which was cooked beautifully. It is so refreshing to find a pub we ate in that even after two years, still has excellent food, staff and service. The pub/restaurant it's self is beautiful as is the pond, that has lots of fish and gorgeous lily's, a totally relaxing atmosphere. Totally recommend and we will be back even though we live a good hour a way, but this time we wont leave it so long. 

VISITED TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME AND HAVE TO SAY IT WAS SUPERB.
I HAD THE SEAFOOD LINGUINE AND IT WAS THE BEST I HAD EVER HAD. MY PARTNER HAD THE PAN FRIED DUCK AND AGAIN IT JUST COULD NOT BE FAULTED IT WAS SUPERB. SERVICE WAS GREAT AND PRICING VERY REASONABLE FOR THE QUALITY SERVED. WE WILL BE BACK

Our second visit - the food was wonderful again, the service excellent and surroundings special. 
We will return, though we live 2 hours away in Bedfordshire - we first found the Rose as we headed for home after a visit to Mersea and were so impressed that we made a special trip today to take lunch.

We visited on Sunday the 19th February while staying on Mersea Island.

We were a party of six.
Four adults and two children of fourteen and ten.

The restaurant was busy with people coming and going which is a great sign.

As soon as we entered we were blown away with the character of the building.
It’s absolutely stunning! Wood beams throughout and really gives you a historical feel.

We arrived for our reserved table at just before 5pm. 
We were greeted by the hostess, who was very friendly and professional she showed us to our seats immediately.

Service was excellent, prompt and efficient throughout our visit.

We were given time to ponder the menu (which has a huge amount of choice) there is literally something for all ages and tastes.
There is a children’s menu for smaller children.
Also a choice of small and large portion sizes for several of the mains to cater for different sized appetites.

Drinks orders were taken and delivered promptly.

The children shared a cheesy garlic bread pizza to start, followed by mains of (large portions) of lasagne with salad and crusty bread and a side of chips.
The adults ordered two large plates of the lamb Sunday roast, a small plate lamb roast and a small plate lasagne with salad and crusty bread. 
The portion sizes were spot on.
The food was fresh, perfectly cooked, hot and enjoyable.
The lamb literally fell apart.
We were provided with mint sauce and our roasts had plenty of gravy.

For pudding my husband and I shared a cheeseboard with Stilton and Brie. 
This came with celery, apple, grapes, onion chutney, crackers and butter.
Fantastic quality produce, not cheap rubbish.

Our whole experience was wonderful.
We will absolutely return in our next visit to the island.
I highly recommend the Peldon Rose.

My partner and I booked The Rose for Sunday Lunch while we staying on Mersea Island. Not having been before or asked anybody for thier own experiences or reviews we gave them a try anf boy we were not disapointed. The Sunday Roast (we both had Lamb) was fantastic , very enjoyable and plentiful with everything cooked and served to perfection. The staff were friendly, approachable and attentive. The pub was very busy with people still arriving as we left over hour later - sign of a good pub and good food. Would highly reccomend and visit again.

Hadn’t been to a Peldon Rose for years so decided to revisit🤗😎☀️My vegetarian lasagne was delish, fruit strudel and custard yummy. My husbands starter whitebait was good, however on seeing his salmon dish on the pass for about 5minutes,when it was served it was well overdone! His couscous with sunblushed tomatoes and garlic and spinach had been replaced by peas and  mangetout 😳without explanation. The mango sorbet icecream was excellent. Coffee outside perfect. Will book again🤗

Went here for Sunday lunch. It was a great setting with lots of specials on the board and the roast was lovely, ploughman’s looked amazing. We had to wait a while but it was worth it. We all got stuck in as we were starving and forgot to take pictures but this was the peldon mess. Will definitely go back again.

Outstanding, warm and friendly service from all the staff. Great location. Loved the atmosphere. All matched with perfect Friday fish and chips served by Jade and the team; thank you all. Highly recommended.

I’ve read some negative reviews and some have really made me laugh.. My wife and I stopped off at this lovely pub today for a bite to eat and we have nothing but praise. We found the pub itself very cozy; the staff to be very friendly and welcoming and the food fantastic…… this is a pub not a Michelin star restaurant, so you may not get table cloths and silver service, but you will get fantastic food and a friendly welcome!! I’ll certainly return when I’m next in the area. 
… and for the pedantic types; yes technically the Pedon Rose Inn is an Inn and not a pub !!

Booked for an anniversary dinner last Saturday evening after several years away from the Peldon Rose due to a bad experience.  However, under new management, and the meal was excellent.  I had the pan fried salmon, cooked to perfection with crushed new potatoes which had a lovely crisp to them, and sugar snap peas.  My husband ordered the fillet steak, rather expensive, but he said it was the best fillet steak he had tasted.  The service was good and the staff friendly.  We offered our compliments to the chef and will be returning.

What a stunning ancient pub serving beautiful food. This pub was found as we were staying locally. It has a wealth of history and some lovely intimate nooks to dine in.
The service was a little slow but not to fault .
Extensive menu for the evening. Both our dishes were delicious.
Throughly recommend.

Go see. Full of charm with a 15th century history.

My wife and I are visiting the area and stopped here for dinner.
We had 3 courses, prawns and goat cheese as starters both were very good, my wife had fish pie and I had salmon, the fish pie was home cooked and the salmon was cooked to perfection.
Our deserts, Peldon mess and orange posset were a great end to the meal.
On top of this the service was top notch well done for a great experience
