I was a little apprehensive about staying when I saw the reviews, but I needn’t have been, my wife and I stayed in the family room and it was excellent. There was water, coffee, biscuits, and a bag of goodies to enjoy. The place is in a perfect spot in town, and the staff were very helpful and accommodating, it may not be the Ritz, but it certainly doesn’t deserve the way it’s been slated on here.

Reading previous reviews I did wonder what our stay would be like- however I was pleasantly surprised 😊
We had a warm welcome and were told how to get to our room. 
The room was clean, smelt fresh and nicely made up. Hot water aplenty.
Clean mugs and glasses were provided with tea coffee making facilities, bottled water also left.
The breakfast was delicious, my husband and I both had the Welsh breakfast, locally sourced produce.
The staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome

The views surrounding the hotel are breathtaking

Why the bad reviews?

Warm welcome

Hotel has a few spaces of parking on side or large pay and display at the back.

The hotel is tidy and clean which is about all I needed. Unfortunately kitchen wasn't open the evening I stayed but there's a few takeaways nearby.

Had breakfast and it was freshly cooked and tasty also very reasonably priced. Same as the bar it was fairly cheap to what I'm used to per pint. There's also big screens and pool table available.  The rooms were clean and warm, very large TV and good WiFi throughout. Bathroom was clean and shower was alright once I turned it fully on. Would I stay here again probably because the staff are exceptionally friendly and were helpful throughout my stay



Had what I needed 

After a very tiring 7 hour drive I was glad to reach The Queens Hotel and was looking forward to some food and time to relax.  I  had expected it to look like the photographs on the Internet but when walking into reception  my first impression was how scruffy it appeared and in addition the very strong smell of beer. 
 When we got to our rooms the carpets were worn and not terribly clean and the bathrooms were in desperate need of refurbishment. Not  the end of the world of course, but what made it worse was having to clean other people's old soap off from around the taps and under the surrounding pipework of the shower and to clean a bathroom floor that I didn't feel had been done.  The first hour of my holiday was spent doing the  same cleaning I do everyday at home! The bed appeared clean but it did cross my mind that due to the smell of the pillows they might not have been changed from the people before. I slept with a t' shirt across my pillow!  I've back-packed  and stayed in YHA's I'm not accustomed to 5* but I think cleanliness is important wherever you are.  
The WiFi didn’t work and so our T.V wouldn't connect to anything the children would have enjoyed watching. I'd say it's great accommodation if you're looking for basic 'digs' but that's about it, sadly.

Disappointed for the money spent.

This is the worst place I have ever stayed and felt unsafe as a lone traveller. Dirty and grimy. Looked for the fire escape and it was behind a door filled with rubbish and old bedding.  The  pillows were an inch thick and smelly, only fit for the bin and I hardly slept. There was no food of any kind on the premises and no where to eat open in the village. After asking twice, I was grudgingly given a bag of prepackaged breakfast full of preservatives (use by date 3 months in advance). I am far from fussy and never write reviews but for £92 a night this place really shouldn't be trading.

Worst place I have ever stayed

Upon arrival, I discovered the room was in an appalling condition. The bed linens were visibly dirty, and there was evidence of extensive mold growth throughout the rooms and bed.The musty odor was overwhelming, making it impossible to sleep.
Due to the unsanitary conditions posing a serious health risk, I was forced to check out immediately and find alternative accommodations. i have booked another hotel , we stayed in that hotel with my nephew and he keep coughing because of the nasty smell and molds and cold in the room.
I am requesting a full refund for my two-night stay , they disagree to give refund! Booking .com are not able to do anything. So please guys  DO NOT BOOK ON THIS HOTEL. Very inconsiderate hotel management.  We came at 7pm on august 10 and leave 7am as early we could. If you book and see the molds you will not get your refund ever!
Also, once your there they will tell you that they dont serve food at all. So you have to force to look somewhere to eat.

Horrible stay and terrible management.

We stayed in this hotel last night. It was most horrid experience ever. Dirty filthy rooms, dirty bathroom.. dirty reception area. We even didn’t want to take shower so awful it was. They offered us breakfast strait when we checked in . It was in a paper bag with excuse that they don’t have chef.  Everything was just shocking . Most horrid hotel I ever stayed

This hotel is just dirty, fly’s all over the place with no one doing anything about it.
Doors filthy had to use my elbow to open most door’s because they we’re actually sticky.
The town itself is rough only when we booked a taxi were we told theres a heroin epidemic.
The guy who runs the place tried to make us pay again at the reception which sounded dodgy but would not release the keys to us untill we did. Luckily we got our money back from booking.com i see from previous reviews he’s tried this with others. So he knows exactly what hes doing i just feel for others who may of not been able to get there money back.
You might aswell camp up the slate mountains you’d have a better time. 
When we booked we were told there was a restaurant but on arrival told he doesnt have a chef. Never again!

Awful

Spent two nights with husband and two children in the family room ….. what a mistake - booked in haste without any research like I usually do ( proper lesson learnt here ) no valance on double bed showing thread bare bed, springy awful uncomfortable bed, rotten window boards , dirty floor, no bedside lamps, no hooks in bathroom to hang towel or dressing gown etc 
Dirty and generally run down with poor decor 
Rubbish shower - Luke warm water 
Mould around bath and had to have bath as shower didn’t work properly then spied someone else’s hair - gross 
Stained ceilings 
No hot chocolate with tea and coffee and in family room where kids will stay 
No wardrobe but broken rail 
No spare blankets or duvets 
No reception 
No check in staff 

On the plus side : it was warm 
It was very quiet 
Smart TV 
Huge room 

Rubbish view - literally ! Overlooking the bins 

This has reminded me to use trip advisor before booking anywhere in future

Omg ! Bates motel …shock horror

Went into their bar for a drink while waiting for my train on the Festiniog Railway - OMG! Dingiest place I've been in for about 30 years.

Struggled to get in because the entrance was blocked by someone smoking a rather odd smelling cigarette...once I managed to get in I took one look at the place and came back out again.

Decor was like something out of the pilot episode of the 'The Sweeney'. One person behind the bar serving a line of unhappy looking customers.
