6 reviewsAfter an 11 hour drive (lots of traffic on the Jubilee long weekend) we arrived at the Castleton Guest House, to find that parking was a free for all and if you didn't get a spot on the street you had to pay for it (regardless of them advertising free parking is available). There was a note asking us to call the owner's mobile phone to access the keys. I wasn't too fussed about greetings due to being so exhausted from our drive, but on arrival I did realise there is no reception area in either of the guest house, which I thought didn't leave a very good impression. Upon leaving, I had to go down to the kitchen next door to use the card machine to check out - not very professional. However, the owner was very welcoming. As she was out, she came up to our room later to see if we needed anything and if our room was ok. The room was very comfortable, the bed was lovely and we had a good stash of tea, coffee and biscuits. The bathroom was an average size, shower had a decent waterflow, but the towels were all mismatched and there was no shampoo. Breakfast was great! There is a good selection on the menu including pancakes, porridge, scrambled eggs on toast, kippers etc. My boyfriend only had a full English once as it was ridiculously massive - no one needs that amount of food. The mushrooms were not drained properly and because of that all the mushroom juice leaked onto everything else on the plate. I gave this guest house 4 out of 5 because despite the small issues that can easily be rectified, the location was great (2 minute walk out of the town centre), it was really cheap for what we got (room and food wise) and the people there were very friendly.
