The Bull

We stayed at The Bull in Ditchling for 2 nights at the end of February because it was our 48th wedding anniversary and we wanted a short break to visit parts of Sussex we were unfamiliar with , eg the Ditchling Beacon. We chose it because we have stayed in Youngs “pubs with rooms” before and have always found them to be excellent with very comfortable non-corporate rooms in interesting old buildings , helpful staff and convenient locations with parking - and a good restaurant . The Bull was no exception and every member of staff we encountered during our stay was exceptionally friendly and efficient. We were also delighted to find a bottle of Prosecco in our room in recognition of our anniversary - a very generous and unexpected gesture . Like many Youngs establishments the pub itself had original features including low ceilings with beams and a log fire which compensated for the typically wet and chilly English February weather . The restaurant has had a recent renovation and the whole experience was very convivial. Exactly what we were hoping for on a short winter break . We would unreservedly recommend The Bull. It is an excellent base for exploring Sussex but equally good if you just want to escape from the elements in an historic rural setting .
