The Swan Hotel

Lovely old, and very quirky, hotel with bags of character. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is cooked as you like it. As it was a cold weekend,  they had thoughtfully provided a free standing heater, which was very welcome. Comfy bed, with a cosy bedspread. Easy walking to nearby restaurants and cafes, and Harleston has an artisan chocolate shop. I look forward to a return trip to the Swan soon.

The hotel is quirky, yes it is old and some bits need attention but we all do as we get older! It is quaint and has  beautiful features,  the village is lovely to look round. The rooms are spacious, the beds are very comfortable and the food is lovely. Everyone made us feel welcome and we had a great weekend.  IF you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel, with great pub food and drinks and somewhere to relax and make new friends, you won’t go wrong.  IF you are looking for Michelin star restaurant and the ritz type rooms then you will be disappointed!  We will stay again no hesitation!

Considering this is an old Listed building it is very reasonable for the price and lots of different shops,restaurants and lovely little town.  Our room The suite was absolutely cosy,warm and comfortable and we got a change of bedding, towels, tea,coffee etc to our room during our 5 night stay and Well Done to the young House keeping lady Leanne for doing a marvellous job. Well Done Leanne you Derserve 👏 5 stars alone. We would stay again,  give it a try.

Decor a bit bonkers - sort of Gothic Heidi inside but has a really freindly .atmosphere and wonderful out side areas.  Although it is close to a main road, being in a dip means the traffic noise just disappears.  Excellent value set lunch menu with some more interesting options for a small surcharge.  Also has a full a la carte with everchanging specials.

Service good, food cooked with care skill and attention - wonderful for an informal lunch (never tried it in the evening)

Slightly challenging for wheel chairs due to gravel entrance but with a bit of applied muscel and being dragged backwards acheivable

My daughter and I stayed in this charming hotel on Thursday 7th July, room 6 which is a twin room. The hotel is full of character and the staff were lovely! The beds were comfy and the bedroom being a large room with a high ceiling, meant that it wasnt too hot thankfully. There was plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits in the room, with the addition of 2 bottles of water!! Very thoughtful! We had a wonderful breakfast and a special shout out to the chef as the scrambled egg was simply perfect!! It was freshly cooked so piping hot, and delicious! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay, we wouldn't hesitate to come back!!

My husband and I just returned from a fabulous stay at The Swan!

We read the reviews prior and being very balanced objective people we thought we’d take our chances :)

Our rooms heating wasn’t on, but as there were few guests the first night that made sense to us and there was a perfectly good manual heater in our room.

Our room was clean and we’ll furnished, hot water aplenty, along with lots of tea and coffee and biscuits!

Yes the decor isn’t what you’d call ‘modern’ and some of the furnishings and fittings are tired - but this didn’t take away from our experience.

We know the cost and effort that goes into maintaining an old property, and we would rather them maintain it as it is than take away its personality!

We’ve paid far more for a premier inn or travelodge and I would rather stay here all day long. Oodles of character, personality and conversation.

Breakfast - nothing was too much trouble - the full English was perfectly sized with tea and coffee on tap.

A great selection of drinks at the bar of an evening and it felt like history just oozed out of the walls!

We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. 

Parking is on Swan Lane - which you can’t turn onto from the high street, you have to drive up to the petrol station from the town, turn right and follow the road until you turn right into swan lane, car park is at the end on The left.

The owners and staff are helpful, friendly and accommodating. 
We wanted a last minute getaway and they were able to fit us in with just a few hours notice, despite it being a very busy period. 

The room we stayed in (the suite) is STUNNING. A large room with beautiful exposed beams, a four poster bed and all the character you would expect from a 17th century property.  As lovers of history and all things old and vintage, my partner and I were in our element. We felt like royalty. 

I would urge any reader to ignore previous negative comments-  It seems to me that previous reviewers should perhaps consider staying in a modern hotel where everything is shiney and new, lacking in any kind of history. This is not the case at the swan, but if it were so, it would destroy the character of the building. Some things should be left in their natural vintage splendour, and that’s just how the swan is offered. 
There are elements of the room which could do with a bit of an update, but nothing that had any kind of negative impact or impeded on our comfort in any way. 

It has a lovely, rustic, homely feel, it’s quiet, comfortable and has ample parking which was easy to find. It’s a great location situated on the Harleston high street with many food and drink establishments within a couple of minutes walk. 

Breakfast was lovely and we had a nice chat with the couple who own the property. 
We slept extremely well and were pleased with the facilities in the room. 

We will definitely be back to stay.

We were very impressed on our one-night stay with how well the staff are coping with keeping the business going during lockdown. They worked tirelessly to provide a good welcome. The room in the quirky old main building was spotless, with all the usual necessities provided, at a really bargain price, and a home-cooked breakfast included. A real bargain

Lunch. Chicken ceases salad .  Without doubt the best I have ever had. 
So can’t speak for the rest of the menu but if this was anything to go by it was amazing. Service very good too. Drinks a bit expensive but hey ho, it was worth it. Will definitely be visiting again

The hotel has lovely character, stunning building, very old feel.
The owner is so welcoming and very friendly and will have a beer with you.
The room is cosy, everything you need.

Character hotel with bags of charm

Booked a double room and ended up with a twin room, so not a good start to the weekend. 
Some of the negative views expressed here aren't necessarily balanced, yes it is in absolute need of TLC, but Robin the property owner is a relatively old guy who attempting to run an old and rambling landmark without much help. Be prepared to adapt to the age and uniqueness of the buildings age and you'll be happy, if you can't then perhaps the local Travelodge would be more suitable for your needs.
On the plus side, the hospitality is good, the food as well, and the Town is small but interesting. Would recommend based on cost and free car parking.

A Hidden Gem

This hotel has character and I loved every inch of it, especially the wonky floor. It is old and the owner is fascinating to talk to about its history. Don't come and stay if you prefer a modern Premier Inn type place (which I also like!) as this is a historical building with as much history as possible preserved. You have to run the hot water for a while to get it to kick in, but when I did the shower was great. The bed was a little lumpy which was my one disappointment. What a little gem! I will be back.

We stayed here for one night to go to a funeral.  Our room was warm and cosy, and the heating was easy to control.  We had everything we needed - tea, coffee biscuits and toiletries. The room was spotlessly clean (COVID clean) and the decor was fresh and bright.  There was some traffic noise, as our room faced the High Street, but this did not disturb us at night, and we did have the window open.  Robin and the lady who served us at breakfast were  both friendly and polite, and the breakfast was excellent with perfectly poached eggs.  We felt that given that this is a very old and interesting building some of the reviews were very harsh.  Yes, the carpets on the stairs were dated,  but this had no impact on our stay.  We had a good night’s sleep, in a very comfortable bed, with good service and food.  We paid half the price that other family members paid at another hotel, so found it excellent value for money.  If we needed to revisit the area we would be happy to stay there again.

Just what we needed

What a marvellous place Quirky & very old 500 Yrs. Rooms  clean & spacious, the floor & doors slope. Beds very comfortable. Great sleep.
Big open Fire in the main Pub , we only ate breakfast & great
 Robin the owner is wonderful & slightly unique.
