Lovely comfy room with great pub downstairs - what more could you want.

Very competitive price for a comfortable room. Accommodation( total of 4 rooms) was adjacent to and accessed via the village pub , but we did not hear a thing ! Nice outdoor space for relaxing or dining/ drinking.The staff were very friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again.Only considerations are staircase up to accommodation and breakfast is not served in the pub.

Some of the friendliest and kindest staff I've ever had, with a simple and easy check-in/check-out process. Also very delicious food at the pub downstairs as well. My bed was very comfortable as well, and the room was very clean. Overall, I'd gladly come back to stay if I ever visit again.

Absolutely fantastic pub with very friendly and helpful staff (the 2 Emma’s especially). Brilliant food and beers and a clean and comfortable room. Cannot recommend more highly and will definitely be back again!

We were made very welcome from the moment we walked through the door. The regulars in the Pub were also very friendly. Room was clean and met all our needs.The food was also very good and inexpensive. FIVE stars all around.

Lovely accommodation in village setting

Just left the Red Lion after 1 night stay.
Real nice pub + great rooms.  
My husband had an interview/assessment in the area lasting 4 hrs.  Check out time is 10am + wen I asked if I could have a late check-out this was no problem at all + could stay in the room until 12 with no xtra charge.  We had forgotten our charging plug + lady behind bar loaned us hers overnight. Really kind + trusting I thought.
If hubby needs to come back for 2nd interview we will be back to Red Lion

Value for money

We stayed in one of the Red Lion's bedrooms. Ours was clean and well-appointed and there was plenty of car-parking space adjacent to the pub.

There was some noise from the pub but after speaking with the staff it was resolved and followed up with a sincere apology the following day. 

I've stayed in some B&Bs where the management doesn't really care but the Red Lion is different. They seem to take their guests' comfort and welfare seriously.

Staff who care

One of those pubs that boast their own "Chef Patron" so you know the food will be good. Strong mix of locals and visitors combining old and young that provides a varied and colourful atmosphere. Dog friendly pub with child friendly garden completes the scene. 

The real ale shares the pumps with continental largers and ciders with the pipes kept scrupilously clean. Reasonable variety of gins and other spirits sharing space with bottled beers and mixers.

The Red Lion is the sort of place you can visit on your own or with friends or family for any occasion. 

Great Family Pub

We were staying at Standlake and wanted to find a great local pub with good food and of course drinks. Following a little research I found this little gem!
Hubby had popped by in the afternoon to decide if it was walkable (it was), the manager instantly recognised hubby with a lovely welcome.
We had a really good meal, starters were lovely, I had the duck main which was full of flavour), I'm not a parsnip lover (they were lovely!). Hubby had the pork which he raved about.

For pud I had the chocolate fondant YUM! Hubby had the rhubarb option - again enjoyed.

Portion sizes were good - we couldn't have eaten or drunk any more. Prices for the food we were served were very fair.

If/when we come back to Standlake we will be going back - if this was our local pub we would be regulars.

One last thing there was no music playing which we hadn't realised until the latter part of the evening - shows you how good the pub is --- thanks again for a fabulous evening.

Great local pub

Lovely welcome, clean, warm comfortable room.The only problem was, I was unable to eat at the premises on Monday evening this time of year. Apparently they start serving.evening meals again on Monday evenings come March time.
