Very comfortable accommodation.  Great value for money and a perfect base to explore the area. Situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Trefin, a stone’s throw from the coast and the pub, which I also recommend for food and real ale..

I was walking the Coast path from Strumble Head and got beaten by a combination of the weather, the terrain and my age!!  In desperation I called in at the Youth Hostel to see whether they could put me up for the night. 

Paul, the owner/manager was brilliant. 

He fixed me up with a really comfortable room with bunk beds and it’s own shower

Next morning it was down to the communal kitchen. “Help yourself to whatever you want” said Paul

There were cupboards full of every conceivable brand of flakes/muesli/teas/coffees. Limitless types of bread for toast. Fridge full of bacon and eggs and bowls full of fruit

“It’s all in the price” said Paul

The best £40 I’ve spent

A great place to recharge batteries when walking the coast path. Paul is a good host with a friendly attitude. I particularly liked the self service breakfast, with everything you could possibly want freely available. A good meal available at the local pub too.

Very welcome place to stay after long days walk from Goodwick. We stayed in the self contained apartment which is perfectly equipped with all that you need. Breakfast was thoughtfully provided by Paul who went out of his way to help us. He also manages the Ship Inn which provides excellent food and beer so all needs are catered for. Great value and highly recommended 

We took over the whole hostel for a big birthday bash. Ages 3 to 70 and we had a wonderful weekend because it was so relaxed and carefree. Kitchen diner was plenty big enough for the twenty odd of us to play games and lounge about doing what you do on a big family weekend.
Had a couple of visits to the village pub, great beer, good food great service and a pool table and juke box in the kids room.

Stayed when we were hillwalking in the area, an excellent facility in an area where accommodation is expensive. Comfortable beds, excellent kitchen facilities, friendly & helpful host. Good pub in the village is an easy walk for great food

We got to the hostel late following a long day on the walking trail. We were tired, hungry and our feet were very sore. We let Paul know we’d be arriving late and he not only let us in when we eventually made it there, he made sure that the kitchen was stocked (all the stores/pubs in the area were already closed). The next day, he went above and beyond to help us mend a broken backpack strap, then made sure we had plenty of water to last us the whole day on the trail. We were fully recharged for another full days’ trip thanks to sleeping in a clean, comfy bed and having a good, hot shower.

We only have words of gratitude for him for making the continuation of our journey on the coastal path possible. Recommended!

Fantastically relaxed yet immaculately clean hostel.  Paul the host is great company and nothing was too much trouble.  Comfortable beds,  well stocked kitchen with simple breakfast provided. Just a short walk from the stunning Pembrokeshire coast. The courtyard is full of plants and flowers and we really appreciated the eco-friendly ethos of the place. We'll be back!

After 6 days of wild camping along the coastal path, this was the perfect place recharge and relax. Clean and cozy room, with relaxed sharing facilities stocked with food and board games. 
There was also a washing machine which came in really handy. 

Nothing was too much trouble for the owner Paul, who really went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. Really friendly service, and will definitely visit again soon.

I had a great stay at the Hostel, walking along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The staff went out of their way to make it comfortable for me, even though lockdown was just around the corner. Nice room, good facilities, and a beautiful part of the world. Thanks.

Awesome hostel. Amazing host!

Trefin is a delightful West Walian village between St Davids & Fishguard very close (about 1 km) to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. We were looking for somewhere to stay for three nights and found the Old School Hostel on the Visit Pembrokeshire website. It's a very nice hostel, sharing premises with Trefin's village hall. The kitchen / diner / sitting room is very well equipped, plenty of reading matter and board games to keep you entertained. Our room had a bunk bed, wash basin and shower. Perfectly comfortable, toilets are down the corridor so bring a dressing gown :-) although it didn't matter as we were the only guest. Paul, the owner, is very helpful, he's a wealth of knowledge about local eats and drinks. 
Trefin has a pub which is a five minute walk away. The beers are good although I can't vouch for the food, we ate in nearby Porthgain (the Sloop) and Mathry (the Farmers Arms).

Great value hostel

We stopped at the reopened Old School House hostel after driving from the ferry to Fishguard from Ireland. The new owner, Paul, was very welcoming even at our late arrival (10:00 p.m.). He advised us on the local beaches.
The hostel provided a good family room for five with lovely decor and ensuite shower. The communal area had games for all ages. Kitchen very well equipped. Breakfast including locally produced eggs was included in the price.

Great hostel close to the sea

I have stayed in hostels across Europe, but none have compared to this magnificent establishment. The care and attention that has gone into the unique, boutique style decor is testament to the creativity and thoughtfulness of the wonderful proprietors, Chris and Sue. And all this for unbelievably affordable prices. I can’t reccommend this hostel more highly. The overall experience of staying at The Old School hostel is warm, homely, relaxed, and the service is personal and genuine. Not only this but the emphasis placed on respecting the environment, which is central to the running of the hostel with eco-friendly cleaning products and even solar panels, is on point and got there well ahead of the game. One of the best places in the world.

The best hostel I have ever stayed at

Staying in the self-contained annexe at The Old School House Hostel certainly won’t break the bank, but it will provide a warm and comfortable base for exploring spectacular scenery. We stayed two nights so that we could do some longish coastal walks, and the annexe (Y Popty) supplied all we needed: a comfortable bed; a small kitchen area, with a fridge and a hob; a functional table and two nice chairs; and a wet-room with a decent shower. Oh, and did I mention the selection of breakfast cereals, jams, fresh bread and milk, and the friendly welcome and helpful local knowledge from the owners? We couldn’t nose about in the main hostel because there was a group in, but if standards are similar, you won’t be disappointed.
