The Wild Duck Inn

I absolutely love the wild duck,  ive had so many happy times there,  the oldy worldly decor was fabulous, old original paintings,  real cosy fires 🔥.  Great food and service.  Gorgeous 😍 lovely outside area too.  Im flabbergasted at the poor reviews,  I can't understand it at all.  Im extremely sad its been closed for refurbishment.  I hope and prey they don't modernise it or it won't be the same.  I've honestly never had a bad experience there,  its my very favourite pub 😀.  Please re open soon.  Vicky

FABULOUS 

Chose to eat here on visit to the area after recommendation from a nearby villager. Ambience good, but not that busy, even for a Friday night. Chose pork crackling with apple sauce for a taster. It was very crispy but looked and tasted a bit odd - like a honeycombed biscuit - and left a synthetic aftertaste. Ordered two lamb rumps with ratatouille for mains and roast potatoes as a side. Didn't need the side (which was deducted from bill) because the ratatouille contained potato - and lots of it. Does a normal ratatouille recipe contain potatoes? Lamb OK (I've had better, though). Overall, not worth the cost - and a 12.5% service charge too!

Overpriced for average meal

Extremely disappointed, bar person was a tad sarcastic regarding wine when I asked for a chardonnay he advised he only had chablis and said it was a real chardonnay. I do know that chablis is the region in France the wine came from.
We eat in the bar as the restaurant was busy, serving staff were very good, food was rather sparse and expensive for what was served, prices are high but it's certainly not fine dining. Bar patrons tend to leave the outside door open when going g for a smoke and dogs although on lead are wandering around, at one time I had a dog sitting begging next to me. To top it all there is a 12.5% service charge in addition to the already high prices.
Would not consider visiting again  as there is plenty of other choices in the area. Overall disappointed.

Sunday Dinner

Will no doubt be a super improvement on the old place, lots of money being spent. Was always a nice bar area with a good choice of beers. Restaurant was in definite need of an upgrade.Anyway, currently closed due to renovation.

Being renovated...

This was my first trip the the Wild Duck as I was passing through on business.
I found that the short dark haired person on the bar with a beard to be very hostile towards me and not welcoming at all. From reading various other reviews I found that this pub is part of a well established group called the Lucky Onion, I can only say that if I was running a group like this with its sort of profile I wouldn't want the bad attitude of one individual to ruin the important respect that this group has gained. After a few pints I had worked myself up an appetite so decided to order some food, unfortunately the kitchen hadn't yet opened so I asked for a scotch egg, this was given to me in somewhat of an even more unwelcoming manner which I found to be most bizarre. I was only led on to write this review when my change from the scotch egg was THROWN AT ME. Completely wrong, and I certainly shall not be returning!!

Disappointed

Unsurprisingly once again we have had an unpleasant trip to the Wild Duck. The manager who we believe to be called Shaun has once again proven his unwelcoming and awful customer service traits, of which i am sure you would not expect from staff at the Lucky Onion group. I really suggest that he's sent on the relevant anger management courses or i'm afraid lots of business will be lost. All of the other staff are extremely welcoming and friendly.

Had a table booked for 3pm and was left waiting stood up in the bar for over an hour to eventually be seated in the bar area and not the restaurant! Ordered a 3 course meal, the roast was not even as good as a Toby carvery, no gravy, potatoes like aunt Bessie’s, felt robbed for £18 , extremely disappointed, will not be returning!
