Another fabulous meal here with friends. We love bringing visitors here as they are always so impressed by the atmosphere, excellent food and service. 
Kitty was outstanding and really looked after us so well - service is everything and she nailed it. 
The food was delicious: soup, oysters, delicious burgers, excellent veggie options and devine puddings. We couldn’t fault it. (Well I was a teeny bit cold but you’re forgiven!)

Best pub in the area for overall experience. Attentive service, great well-priced food and a cosy bar area with loads of beautiful old photographs of the Goodwood racetrack. Worth going before or after a walk on the South Downs with the dog.

We had the pleasure of staying one night here.  Our room was really comfortable - plenty of everything … from toiletries to tea and coffee, towels and blankets.
The breakfast was scrumptious … I didn’t want it to end!

From the moment we contacted the Star and Garter, we knew it was going to be a lovely place to stay.
Before we even arrived both Jim and Julie were so accommodating, we explained that we were travelling from Solihull and that the wedding we were attending was at 1:30, so they gave us an early check in so we were able to get ready.

The rooms were clean, homely and very comfortable. 

The breakfast choice was superb, from the traditional English breakfast to a fish and vegetarian option - all served with excellent coffee.
Nothing was too much trouble and they were so lovely. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We wanted somewhere special to take mother in law for her 92nd birthday.
It was a glorious day and the village looked lovely, we walked in to a really warm greeting from the lovely publican, the menu though not massive is really special with some great choices of truly home cooked food. 
A special desert was served for the birthday girl.
Would we come again ‘certainly’

What a lovely, welcoming place! From the moment you walk in, The Star and Garter oozes friendliness. Front of house was the charming Harry, who showed me to the room and booked a table for dinner. Lovely, clean, gorgeous and comfortable room with views out over East Dean. That evening’s dinner was relatively quiet, but all guests were looked after and somewhat entertained by Harry who was made for that role. The new autumn menu was excellent and hearty, and the wide, yet quirky selection of drinks was top rate. I can’t fault any aspect of my stay, other than I would have liked to have stayed longer. 

Well worth the money, you won’t be disappointed 🙂

Stayed with a group of friends for a long weekend.
Between us we took all three rooms and then Jim the landlord arranged additional rooms at short notice for our group with his friends in the village
From friendly greeting to final departure Hosts Jim and Julie could not have been more friendly, caring and attentive
Going out of their way to accommodate our groups varying needs with unfailing good humour
Odd diets, horribly  early starts when Jim catered for our breakfast requirements and keeping the kitchen open in the evening when we were delayed
Lovely staff made us all feel like the Star and Garter was our home from home
The food is  top quality pub fare with an intelligent twist and served by Harry with great humour
Shout out to chef with his showcasing of local ingredients.
Lovely pic nic boxes supplied for our day out on Sunday, so well done and generously provisioned with fresh cakes scones sandwiches pies sausage rolls, all you could want really.

Simple , comfortable clean rooms and all furnished with fans for what was a brutally hot weekend, thanks for that!

Imagine everything you want from a short stay….. well this has it all. Where do I start?? Firstly when you stay away you want a clean room, it is exceptionally clean. You want a long hot bath after a long day walking, the bath is massive aswell as the room. You want tea and coffee in your room, you get a high end coffee machine as well as a fridge with real tea and real milk. You want water in your room, only the best hildon spring and sparking. You want a plug near a big mirror you have it! Honestly you couldn’t ask for more. The best breakfast I can honestly say I’ve ever had. Now the people, you couldn’t ask for more pleasant, welcoming owner and staff. We celebrated new year with a fantastic community after travelling all the way from Essex. Thank you for making our new year start an amazing one.

Would highly recommend the Star and Garter to anyone that wants a friendly welcome to an establishment that is set in beautiful countryside and which offers amazing food. Jim the Landlord is a first class person who did everything possible to ensure I enjoyed a short but important stay when I was visiting my youngest son.  Harry running the bar/restaurant was equally friendly and helpful and helped us to select food that was just sublime.

Absolutely perfect. Lovely room with large comfy bed. Host and staff were very friendly and helpful. Well kept beer and fantastic food. Will hopefully visit again, and would certainly recommend. What's not to like?

Try this place you won’t be disappointed,

Came across the Star & Garter whilst on a walk to Chichester and very pleased that I did, as was needing to fuel up. Lovely location, warm welcome, great service and I can heartedly recommend it for its full English breakfast which really hit the spot, especially the sausages and the Oxford Sauce. Shame I was too early to sample the ales.

We visited during goodwood revival weekend. Busy, friendly pub with good decor inside. Good food and good selection of drinks. The staff were very courteous and efficient even with a full dining room. Jim and Julie (landlord/ landlady) were excellent hosts who couldnt do enough for us.
Will definitely visit again when we are back in the area.
