They say small things make all the difference. Well at Hillside with Richard & Wendy everything is just perfectly finished to make guests stay the best. I’ll mention just a few. The cutlery at breakfast is polished and I mean not washed and dried - polished. The teapot, the cafetière not washed and dried but highly polished stainless steel and they don’t dribble when pouring. Even the chrome coat hooks on the bathroom door were polished. The shower screen was polished - not wiped down - polished. The attention to detail is just huge and warmly welcome. Superb. If only 4 star hotels could do as good. The breakfast is totally cooked to perfection with gorgeous Cumberland sausage and high quality back bacon. I could go on but hey just book there- you won’t regret it.

Exceptional Superb B&B in Kendal

A lovely comfortable stay with great hosts, Richard and Wendy. Breakfast was fabulous and cooked to order and lots of choice. My room was warm and had a great view. Central for everything in Kendal and the Lakes. I will definitely revisit again in the very near future.

A real Gem

Beautifully simple, clean and relaxing and a host with a wonderful sense of humour.  A very fulsome and tasty breakfast range in a cosy dining area. Every convenience is to hand and information about the B&B, Kendal and surrounding Lake District locations are readily available.   Nothing was too much for Richard and Wendy, owners of Hillside B&B.   A thoroughly lovely place to stay and one which I highly recommend.

COSY AND COMFORTABLE

Such a cosy and welcoming place to stay. Genuinely have never stayed in such an immaculately clean B&B. We stayed in Room 3, which was lovely,  overlooking the road...however this did not cause any issues with noise. The shower was perfect, especially after a long day outside. Breakfast was delicious. We had absolutely no issues with parking and were always lucky enough to park right outside. Walkable to lots of lovely pubs and restaurants...just a bit of a steep climb back up Beast Banks. Although good workout after eating at the Fleece Inn (really recommend their food). 

This is such a gem of a B&B. Friendly and helpful hosts and everything you could ask for as a base in the beautiful Lake District. 

Couldn't ask for more in a B&B! 

Hillside was very clean and comfortable along with friendly and helpful hosts. Central to Kendal centre, bus and rail stations. Plenty of eateries for dinner nearby. Had no issues with parking. Breakfast was lovely. Would definitely recommend to everyone in and will return.

Nice welcome, clean house and rooms… breakfast fine. 

The house is up quite a steep hill from the town centre, steps up to the front door and, if like me, you’re on the second floor you may be puffing a bit before you get to your room. 

My single room was smallish but was clean, well lit and ventilated. It had everything needed… including a comfy chair which was welcome after a day on my feet.
On the front of the house but traffic noise not an issue as not a main through road. 

I found a parking spot just outside the house and, using the provided parking permit, didn’t move the car during my 3 day stay. Bus station about 10 minutes walk downhill… railway station 5 or so minutes further on. Far easier to use public transport than fight with Lakeland traffic and find car parks… especially in ‘the season’. Even more so if you have a a bus pass!

My pet hate in B and Bs are the hosts who think it’s their job to entertain you… especially when a solo traveller. Wendy and Richard were friendly, welcoming and informative but quickly worked out that I knew the area well and didn’t need too much help, so stepped back… they’d have been more than willing to offer help if needed. 

A good place to stay… and vey reasonably priced.

Convenient and comfortable

This B&B is situated in a beautiful are of Cumbria, right on the edge of the Lake District.  The owners, Richard and Wendy, were excellent hosts and were very welcoming.  Their local knowledge made getting around Cumbria so much easier and ensured that we made the most of our limited time there.  Whilst they were always available if we wanted them, they were in every way discreet and unobtrusive.
The rooms and public areas were spotless and everything was of exceptional quality.  The breakfast was not only plentiful but very nicely cooked, with a lot of choice.  Once again, the ingredients used were also of the best quality.
We cannot recommend this B&B highly enough and will definitely return.

Best B&B we have used

This was our first stay in a B & B on this trip - and did not disappoint. Well appointed, well presented and the hosts Richard & Wendy were very welcoming. Enjoyed a beautiful breakfast every morning - cooked fresh for you.  Rooms were refreshed daily, and very comfortable. Highly recommend.

Lovely B & B Kendal

Friendly welcome from Richard and Wendy, quiet bedroom yet only a hundred yards walk to the centre of town. Lovely breakfast with a great choice. Efficient shower, fluffy towels. Make sure to ask for a parking permit when you book, lets you park all day free in the road outside. Kendal is lovely - we saw an otter in the town! Kingfishers and goosanders in the river too.

Kendal is lovely and so is Hillside

We came for the Kendal Whisky Festival weekend, and found the Hillside to be a superb place to stay. A very warm welcome from Richard and Wendy, with rooms that were cosy and spotless, and fans of a full English will not be disappointed! Convenient car parking right outside, and only a few minutes walk from the centre. We'll definitely return, and would recommend to anyone.
