We had a very pleasant two day stay at The Blacksmiths Arms. The staff were friendly and kind and we had some delicious food, particularly the breakfasts which were delicious and very large plates full.

Great staff, absolutely lovely pint of "Black Sheep" and a comfortable bed. It was a great place to spend time.

Not dined here for a while but glad to see the food is still excellent. All the people in the group enjoyed their choices mine being a particular fine Cumberland sausage with excellent veg and real chips. Not forgetting a decent pint of Timmy Taylors!

Helpful staff and good food in a very handy location.

What a lovely place this is. I have just returned from a Golfing break with 7 friends and everything was faultless. Anne is a lovely pleasant host who ensures everything runs shipshape. The breakfast is first class and passed my sausage test with flying colours (obviously sourced from a local butcher) I can definitely recommend The Blacksmiths Arms and I plan to return next year. 

My husband and I stayed for four nights in this lovely traditional British pub. From start to finish of our break we were welcomed into the premises by the lovely owners, staff and locals. We were very comfortable in room three which was very clean, warm and cosy. The food was excellent and we ate there all four nights particularly enjoying the sticky toffee pudding and custard. It proved an excellent location to visit Hadrians wall, in particular the Roman Army Museum which was fascinating, Gretna Green and The Lakes. We also found a dark night location close by where you could access Hadrians wall very easily. We would definitely make a return visit to this charming and very welcoming venue. The Smiths. XX

Wonderful staff, amazing food for a pub … very good and would stay again

We found this jem of a hotel/restaurant a few years ago and have returned several times.  The welcome is so friendly and you feel at home straight away.  The rooms are lovely and well equipped with great beds.  Breakfast is home cooked with local produce and the resurant offer great dishes, tasty and really good to eat. It might take a little searching for being in a small village but so worth it.

Great staff and a very warm, friendly and efficient check-in. A great touch, much appreciated, was a table was booked for me incase I wanted to dine in.My room was in a small annex to the Blacksmith Arms. It is generously termed by estate agents as cosy. The bathroom was far larger and included a bath and separate shower. All was clean with a generous application of bleach. The room was very quiet except for the occasional screech of either pheasant or peacock. I couldn't make my mind up which. Meals were a good portion but not much choice for those growing number of people who prefer not to eat bits of dead animal. Meal with drink and starter around £25. Very quiet village with the blacksmith the only real attraction.

Return to a happy place

We had a very enjoyable stay here recently. There was an excellent choice of real ales, a comprehensive menu and a real fire in the bar area. Our rooms were cosy and with recently upgraded bathrooms. The best thing though was the quality of the welcome and the service. We felt valued as customers from the moment we first went in. A super place for an overnight stay in the Brampton area. We would definitely stay here again.

Just the ticket!

Arrived to a friendly greeting. Showed us our room which was out of the back of the bar across a small patio area . Tidy and clean all the facilities you need. 
Bar area has a nice friendly atmosphere
 Locals telling their tales of woe. 
Good choice of meals for the evening meal. Staff efficient and friendly. 
Breakfast included in the deal was excellent.

Tidy little hide away

Really nice pub on the village green, tables outside front and back, traditional English pub inside. Very good beer, the pub is in both the Good Beer and Good Pub guides and deservedly so. Very friendly staff, decent food, more home cooking comfort food than gastro, good portions. Our room was ok, a little dated and small, but clean and perfectly fine for using the pub as a base rather than a destination in itself. Prices are very reasonable. Google maps say it is permanently closed, it is not, landlord says a few have mentioned this so why doesn’t he correct it?  Definitely worth a visit.

Cosy friendly pub, OK rooms

after walking from Carlisle we were unsure of what to expect but we were welcomed with open arms. The room was a deight and the staff could not have been more helpful. We ate in the resytaurant and the food was first class. A really comfortable nights sleep was had and prepared us for the breakfast. Again first class service and great quality. I would stay there again and thanked the staff, especially the landlady, for a great break.

1st time visiting this pub. 

Great friendly staff in a quiet location. 

I love the feel of this pub, open fire, good home cooked food and nice beers. This is what a pub should be like. 

We ordered the following food:

Balmoral chicken 
Turkey and beef Sunday dinner. 

Really tasty and big portions. 

Will defiantly be visiting here again.

Old school pub

We stayed overnight here on a cycling tour of Hadrian's Wall coast to coast.  We had a very friendly welcome and the owners allowed us to garage our cycles safely overnight and I was also able to charge my electric bike there.  We also had an evening  meal in the pub.  The hardworking waitress was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.  The breakfast was also very good.  There is a tarn close by which we unfortunately didn't have time to visit.  They also had a peacock in the garden.  Would recommend this pub.  It's in a very pretty area.
