Lovely stay with friends here at the weekend. Food great, rooms beautiful and staff very welcoming. Relaxing stay in this gorgeous cosy historic pub. Have rebooked to come back at Christmas. Highly recommend.

Stayed here for a couple of nights, and we were well looked after by Lyn.   Def recommend .  Lovely soft comfortable beds  atmospheric building. No ghosts unfortunately 😍

This was our first post-lockdown overnight stay. It felt very safe, we stayed 2 nights and ate at the restaurant both nights. 

The room was comfortable with an en-suite and lots of sanitiser. There is a kettle for tea and coffee and a tv.

There is a decent menu with traditional pub food. Lynn very kindly cooked for us on Sunday evening after the bbq finished early before we  got back from a day out.

It's good value for the money, breakfast was included and the service was excellent.

We will go back and thoroughly recommend it.

We would love to say a massive thank you to the landlady and staff at the fitzwalter arms. Lovely atmosphere great food nothing was to much trouble would recommend to anybody who wants a quiet  stay .all I would say you need a car as the village is in the countryside.we are definitely going back next year 

We have just returned from an o/night stay which was bought as a gift. 
We had dinner, which was really nice and we were regularly attended too. Wine options were good.

Our stay was comfortable and very clean and the breakfast in the morning was the best! 

I’m vegan and although I didn’t ask, the landlady remembered my requests during dinner the night before and adapted a full English breakfast for me, which was so thoughtful and kind. Plus it was delicious.

When I arrived, very warm welcome. Lovely room, comfortable bed. As a woman travelling on my own, I was made to feel safe and welcomed, great food (also offered a healthy alternative) bar staff/manager Annie and locals were all really nice and it was great to be able to sit and chat to everyone and not feel uncomfortable because I was staying here on my own. Will definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

So pleased we booked a room here.  A real little gem in the countryside.  The landlords were super friendly & welcoming.  The locals were also very chatty & friendly too.  The village is lovely and take time to read about it on the information board outside the church. 

The building itself is warm & cosy, with a really lovely relaxing feel to it....many an hour could easily be enjoyed sipping on s G&T in the bar!  It also has a nice beer garden, although we didn’t venture that far.  

Food is excellent, just wished I could have fitted in a pudding, sadly I couldn’t.  Breakfast was excellent too.

Our room was simple, cosy, but very comfortable.  Our bed was massive and super comfy.

Would definitely recommend staying here be it for one night or a weekend as there are plenty of interesting places nearby....or just enjoy the hospitality of the landlords & locals!



Nice, friendly village pub in beautiful countryside. Excellent breakfast and fresh homemade food for dinner with some good ales. Felt very welcome. Spacious room with nice, clean bathroom and massive, very comfy bed. Goodnestone Park Gardens next door worth the visit. Easy to park just at front of the pub.
Really looking forward to come back soon

The location, basically in an old manor, next to a cemetery and a church. The ladies were really kind and the food delicious and fresh. The place was calm and relaxing. People hanging around in the evening at the pub were interesting and friendly. The backgarden is a space out of time and space!

If you are looking for a place to stay in a quiet and friendly atmosphere, then look no further.

My wife and I found this gem of a hotel by chance last year when a well known hotel chain did not have any vacancies.

On our first visit, we were warmly welcomed by the charming landladies, Victoria and Antonia.  We were shown to our rooms and then adjourned to the bar for a welcome drink.  We have stayed with them on our last 4 visits to the U.K. and have experienced the same warm welcome every time.  Nothing is too much trouble to them and they make you feel very special.

There is a superb selection of food available to eat in the restaurant or at the bar by the open log fire.  Also their is a comprehensive selection of draught local ales, lager and cider, which are all very well kept.

The en suite accommodation is excellent, with huge comfortable beds.

Lastly, all the staff are very friendly and helpful and like the landladies, make you feel welcome.

We would highly recommend this as a place to spend a few days as there is so much to see in the area and the surrounding countryside is very relaxing.

Visited Goodnestone gardens we popped in to see if we could have lunch at the pub as the gardens cafe was closed. We had a lovely lunch lots to chose from from curry to pies. Friendly staff lovely atmosphere. Cold day the pub was cold but it didn’t put us off would go again
